Chapter 2007: Egg

With Joan’s charge pushing the monsters aside, we were able to create a path into the cave.

Though that didn’t mean that we had an idea of what was waiting for us inside.

It was just a good thing that the flames around Joan provided us with enough light that we were able to see what was around us.

However, this charge didn’t last long.

It wasn’t that there was something that was in the cave that stopped us.

It was just that this cave wasn’t that big in the first place.

It didn’t take long before we reached the end of the cave and had nowhere else to go.

With how short this cave was, it really was confusing why the monsters had waited outside the cave in the first place. It should have been easy for one of those races to have snuck into the cave and taken whatever was here away.

Only none of them did that…

“Was it because whatever is here wasn’t ready before today? They had only noticed a trace of its power, but it had never released its powers like this until today?”

That was the only explanation that I could think of, but it really was hard for me to believe this.

Since there was nowhere else for us to go, the only thing that I could do was look for whatever it was that was releasing this energy.

Now that we had gotten closer, I could sense this energy even more.

At the same time, there was this very strange feeling that came from this energy.

I really didn’t know how to describe it, but the sensation that it gave me was familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. It was like mana, but it was also stronger than any mana that I had sensed before.

It was also like divine energy, but it was weaker than any divine energy that I felt before.

It really was like some kind of strange in between that was right in the middle of these two forms of energy.

But since it flooded this place, it was quite easy to find what it was that was releasing it.

This thing was actually right in the center of the cave, but it had been covered by a layer of dust that made it hard to see.

When I pinpointed where it was, I waved my hand and released a layer of mist that surrounded this thing. The mist pushed away all of the dirt that had surrounded this thing and revealed its true appearance.

“An egg?”

It wasn’t a description of what shape this thing was, it was an exact description of what it was.

With how it looked, it was hard to mistake it for something else.

Only it didn’t make sense why there would be such a thing in this place.

“Roar!”

When I heard this sound coming from behind me, I knew that there wasn’t time to think about this.

The monsters that had been caught off guard by the charge that we made had recovered and it seemed like they were about to come in. If we didn’t move soon, we would be surrounded by the monsters that were about to come in.

It wouldn’t just be us being surrounded by them, we would be completely locked in since they would block the only exit that we had.

That was why we had to leave this place as soon as possible.

When I came back to my senses, I waved my hand and the mist around the egg started lifting it up.

I was completely different from before where I wasn’t able to control the divine energy mist at all. I had reached the point where I was now able to lift things up with this divine energy mist.

Though what I didn’t expect was a reaction from it.

After the egg was lifted off the ground, there was this tremble that came from it.

I thought that it was just a normal reaction from the egg from being lifted like this, but it didn’t seem to be the case. After that tremble, there was more trembling that came from the egg.

It was as if there was something that had triggered it and it was now acting out.

It trembled so much that I wasn’t able to keep hold of it with my divine energy mist.

With a single lapse in control, the mist broke apart and the egg started falling to the ground.

This was a big problem since I had already lifted the egg up a decent height and if it fell to the ground from this height, there was no doubt that it would shatter.

I didn’t know what this egg was, but I didn’t want it to shatter like this. Or at least not until I figured out what kind of egg this was and why it could release this energy.

When I was panicking to catch the egg, I found that it wasn’t necessary.

There was this layer of light that appeared around the egg that seemed to be some kind of energy that had suddenly grabbed this egg. From the energy fluctuations that this gave off, it seemed like this was the strange energy that I felt previously.

For it to appear like this, did that mean that whatever was releasing it was nearby?

However, I wasn’t able to find anything even when I spread my senses to its fullest around me.

The only thing that seemed to be releasing this energy was the thing inside of the egg, but this thing was still in its egg form. It shouldn’t be able to do something like this from inside of the egg.

Still, it really didn’t seem like there was anything around here that could have released that energy.

At the same time, that energy lifted that egg up into the air and then it started flying towards me, who was still standing on Joan’s head.

It was clear that I was the target of whatever was causing this egg to float.
