Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure - Chapter 2009: Calling for backup

Chapter 2009: Calling for backup
With Joan’s flames clearing the path, we were able to make it out of the cave in the end.
Though from time to time, the egg released even more energy waves that pushed aside the monsters.
It wasn’t just the first wave of monsters that noticed the flaw with Joan’s flame charge. So that was why there were other monsters that did the same thing as the first wave and tried to get around the flames.
However, none of them were able to reach us because of the energy waves that the egg released.
Though when they were hit with these energy waves, there was the same reaction that came from these monsters as the first wave of monsters. It seemed as if they enjoyed being hit with this energy wave.
It was as if there was something that they enjoyed that was in this energy wave that hit them.
The looks on their faces definitely wasn’t something that I wanted to see…
After coming out of the cave, I didn’t hesitate to ask, “Did you ask for reinforcements yet?”
Klein gave a nod before pointing in a direction and saying, “They’ll be coming from that direction.”
With a nod in response, I said, “Go!”
With that, Klein and the other royal guards had their wyverns go forward to clear a path for us. At the same time, they moved around in a way that allowed them to surround me and make sure that I was safe.
It seemed like now that thing that they couldn’t explain was dealt with, they were taking charge again.
I didn’t mind since there was something that I wanted to do.
“What are you?” I asked the egg that was just floating there beside me.
Though there was a part of me that felt awkward after asking this since I was asking this question to an egg that really didn’t have a way of answering.
As expected, there was no response that came from the egg.
It seemed to shake a bit when I asked it this question, but it didn’t seem like it was going to do anything other than this. After all, there was no way for this egg to actually respond to this question.
So I started thinking about other ways for us to communicate.
However, there was something that suddenly pulled my attention away from the egg again.
It was a strange sensation at first, but it became stronger and stronger until it couldn’t be ignored.
The strangest thing was the direction that it was coming in.
When I turned back to look in that direction, I couldn’t help knitting my brows since I could see that there was something strange about the monsters that were chasing us.
It wasn’t just the sensation that they gave off that was strange, it was their entire being that had changed.
For the goblins, there were some that seemed taller than the others and more developed.
For the orcs, there were those that had thicker skin and stronger tusks.
For the ogres, there were those that seemed to have grown taller than the other ogres.
In short, it seemed like all of these monsters had grown in some way that made them stronger. It was as if there was something that had caused them to evolve.
When I looked more closely, I found that there was a certain one that I recognized.
It was all because of the burn scar that this goblin possessed that they still had after their appearance had changed.
This was one of the goblins that had been pushed away by the strange energy that the egg released.
It seemed like there really was a reason why they had that strange expression when they were hit with that energy wave.
At the same time, it explained why these monsters wanted the egg so bad.
Just absorbing the energy was able to change them like this, so what would happen if they were able to absorb the thing that this energy came from?
There was no doubt that it would be very dangerous to give them the egg.
“Where are those reinforcements?” I asked Klein who was looking in the same direction as me.
Klein didn’t say anything as he looked over at one of his subordinates, but that subordinate said, “It’ll still take a while before they can get here.”
All of us knitted our brows when we heard this, but I made sure to grab the egg before it could do anything else. Even though it seemed like the egg was on our side, the things that this egg did wasn’t really that helpful.
If it were to use the same energy to push back these monsters again, the same thing would happen where they would become stronger.
The stronger that the monsters became, the more dangerous that it was for us.
So naturally I couldn’t let the egg make a move.
“Hold on until they arrive. We have the advantage now, so they won’t be able to do anything to us.”
Klein nodded in agreement before suddenly saying, “Should we fly up then?”
“Not right now. We can do that later.” I said with a look of thought on my face.
These monsters didn’t have the ability to fly, so we would be able to avoid most of them if we did go up into the air. But if they gave up, then it would be dangerous since they would spread in all directions.
There were still villages that were in this surrounding area after all.
With all of us working together, we were able to keep the monsters back until the backup reached us.
However, it seemed like the monsters also called for backup as they suddenly appeared around us.
It seemed like they just ignored us and were completely focused on the egg that was floating near me.
They just wanted to take the egg for themselves since it was the source of the energy that could make them evolve and I wasn’t able to react in time to stop them.
