Chapter 2012: Same source? (1)
Though the orcs that had ambushed us had been taken care of, that didn’t mean that it was over yet.
After all, there were still other monsters that were here.
The orcs had been the ones that had broken through and had gotten the closest to us, but that didn’t mean that there were no other monsters at all. It was just that our reinforcements had come to support us.
We had called for reinforcements from the racial alliance while we were running and stalling for time and they had finally arrived.
Currently, they were taking care of the other monsters that were here.
But it wasn’t as if they were able to hold them back for long.
There were already quite a few monsters that had been chasing us and there were even more that had come as reinforcements.
The reinforcements from the racial alliance didn’t even come close to matching how many monsters there were here. They were able to hold them back for a bit since they had caught them off guard, but it wasn’t as if they would be able to hold them back forever.
“Are there more reinforcements on the way?” I asked the one that seemed to be leading these reinforcements from the racial alliance.
“We were the ones that came the fastest, which is why we arrived first. There are others that are coming as well, but it’ll take some time before they can reach us.”
I figured that was the case when I saw these reinforcements.
They had used the fastest method of transport the racial alliance had, but it wasn’t as if there were that many of these things to begin with. So there was only a certain amount of reinforcements that could be sent using these things.
The reason for this was because they didn’t know how long we would be able to last, which was why they wanted to at least relieve some of the pressure.
However, none of us expected reinforcements from the monsters.
“Just how many stragglers escaped and gathered here?” I couldn’t help asking in a loud voice that quite a few people heard.
The reinforcements from the racial alliance that heard this revealed wry looks, but that didn’t stop them from fighting against the monsters.
They knew that they had to last until the other reinforcements arrived or else they wouldn’t be able to survive this. Which was why they didn’t let their guards down for a single second against the monsters that were in front of them.
I also knew that I had to deal with these monsters as well or we just simply didn’t stand a chance here.
It was just that with all of the different people that were fighting, it would be hard for me to help effectively.
It was one thing if we were fighting against the forces of Destruction, it was a different thing if we were fighting against monsters.
The divine energy that I used would only harm the corruption energy monsters and wouldn’t harm our allies if I were to use it against the forces of Destruction. In fact, the divine energy would even be able to buff them if I used it on our allies.
It was different for physical attacks using magic or divine energy.
Those attacks would actually hurt our allies and I couldn’t shoot them off at will, but they made up the majority of my arsenal.
Without knowing it, I had speced into an AoE mage build.
As I was thinking about what I should do against these monsters, the qilin suddenly spoke once more.
“Let’s work together, master. I don’t have enough divine energy on my own to take care of them, so I need your help.”
I couldn’t help looking at the qilin with a strange look since I heard something strange just now.
The way that the qilin addressed me, it had clearly called me ’master’.
Only I didn’t remember making any contracts with the qilin that would make me the qilin’s ’master’.
However, this wasn’t the time to think about it since we were technically still surrounded by all of these monsters. If I wanted to address this, I had to do it after we had taken care of all these monsters around us.
“How do I do it?” I asked the qilin after a moment of hesitation.
“Just pick me up. As long as we are in contact with each other, we can share our power.”
I had my doubts about this, but I still picked up the qilin after it said this.
Once I picked it up, I understood what the qilin meant by this.
The moment that we made contact with each other, it was as if there was this connection that had been formed between us.
I could sense the qilin’s power and I could sense my power flowing into the qilin.
Though I could also clearly feel that I was the one that was in control.
As long as I wanted to stop it, the qilin wouldn’t be able to use any of my power.
“Let’s do this, master.” The qilin said in a cheerful voice even though what it was about to do was quite frightening.
I didn’t say anything, but I did give a nod in response.
As soon as I gave this nod, I could feel the power spreading from the qilin.
The moment that the monsters sensed this, it was as if they were thrown into a frenzy which scared the reinforcements from the racial alliance. However, they calmed down when I said, “Let them through.”
Though they had their doubts, they still listened to me and let the monsters reach the wave of energy coming at them.
But the moment that the energy made contact, it seemed like the expressions of the monsters changed. It turned from looks of joy into looks of absolute fear.
They knew that they were in danger and they were afraid, but they weren’t able to do anything.
