Chapter 2016: This cave was… (1)
The monsters that were left in the cave just simply weren’t a match for the reinforcements from the racial alliance at all.
Most of the monsters had gone as reinforcements and the ones that were left behind were the ones that were too weak to fight.
They were the women and the children of the monsters that had chased after us.
In a way, it was almost as if we were people that were preying on the weak.
Only the monsters didn’t deserve that kind of consideration.
In the first place, the monsters weren’t intelligent enough to be considered as races that could be reasoned with.
They were creatures that followed their instincts and they had destructive instincts to begin with.
So even if they were weak now, that wouldn’t be the case forever.
Once these children of the monsters grew up, they would be just as terrifying as the monsters that we fought previously. Which was why instead of letting them grow up to become a menace, it was better to take care of them now before they could hurt anyone.
It was better to snip the root of the problem.
Only the scene of this was a bit strange looking.
Regardless, the racial alliance forces didn’t hesitate to take out all of the monsters that were left here. They wouldn’t leave a problem for themselves since there was nothing to gain from this.
I was the only one that seemed to be thinking other thoughts
“These monsters received their programming from the ones that designed this world. They were supposed to be monsters that fought against humans and would be turned into EXP for the players. Doesn’t that mean that they basically have no choice?”
Honestly, I was the only one in this world that could think such a thing since I was the only one that had this kind of knowledge.
But it wasn’t as if there was anything that I could do with that knowledge.
It wasn’t as if I could change the very programming of this world when I didn’t even know why I was brought here in the first place.
So I just left this matter to the racial alliance forces.
They were more than enough to take care of these remaining monsters that were gathered in this cave. As such, it was better for me to focus on the one thing that I was here to see.
With the racial alliance forces taking care of the monsters, I easily made my way to the end of the cave.
It wasn’t that deep to begin with, so it didn’t take long to reach it.
When I arrived, I found that there were some monsters that were taking refuge here.
With the way that they huddled in the middle as if they were looking for something, it was as if they were trying to rely on something to break through this disaster.
It even seemed like they were looking for something specific, something that had been here previously.
It was just that I had taken this thing with me.
When the monsters noticed me, they didn’t actually turn their attention to me. Instead, it seemed like their attention was completely on the qilin that was in my arms.
Even if they were children, it seemed that these monsters recognized the power of the qilin. They knew that this power was the one that they were looking for, the one that would allow them to become stronger.
So even if they were children, they still charged at me as if they wanted to take the qilin’s power for themselves.
However, they didn’t get to approach us in the end.
Before they could reach us, there was an invisible barrier of energy that stopped them from coming closer.
The moment that they felt this invisible energy wrap around them, there was a look of pleasure that appeared on their faces. After all, this energy was the kind of energy that drew them in and made them want to approach the qilin.
It was just that it didn’t take long for their expressions to change.
They had the same expressions of panic that the other monsters had when they realized that this energy wasn’t their salvation, but rather their doom.
So there was nothing that they could do as they were completely flooded with that energy.
Once it was done, they blew up just the same as the others.
I couldn’t help raising one brow as I looked at the qilin.
It had shown no hesitation at all in killing these monsters even though it was a child just like them.
It really was hard to understand how this qilin was developing, but it seemed like it already had a path that it was following.
In that case, there really wasn’t anything for me to say about this.
Once all of the monsters had been cleared out, I went to the place that I had found the egg.
There was a hole in the ground where the egg had been previously, but there was nothing else that was there that gave me any clues as to the origin of the qilin. It seemed like this place was completely devoid of anything that was related to the egg.
But I knew that this wasn’t the case.
There had to be something that showed how the egg had ended up in this place.
Which was why I went all around the cave in an attempt to find something.
I didn’t find a single thing until I noticed that there was something off.
As for how I noticed this, it was all because wandering around the cave had moved away the dust that had been on the ground and revealed something to me.
There were lines that were on the floor of this cave that seemed to be coming from the center.
With the way that they were patterned…
“It looks like there was something that was pushing everything around it away from it…”
