Chapter 2017: This cave was… (2)
With how the lines were spread out, it really seemed like they came from the very center of the cave.
But the only thing that had been in the center of the cave was…
I turned to look at the qilin, but it didn’t seem like it had any reaction to this cave at all.
Even though this was the place that its egg had been for who knows how long, it didn’t seem like it had any attachment to this place.
Even now, I could sense the same energy that came from the qilin in the center of the cave where the egg had been. This was just residual energy, but it was still energy that had come from the same source.
“Do you feel anything here?” I slowly asked the qilin this question.
The qilin had been relaxing in my arms when I surprised it with this question, but then it looked up at me with a confused look as if it didn’t understand why I was asking this question.
Then it looked around the cave with the same confused look before turning back to shake its head.
“I don’t know this place at all.”
A wry smile appeared on my face when I heard this.
The qilin knew all kinds of different things even though it had just hatched, but when it came to the place that it had lived in for so long…
I really didn’t know how the qilin’s mind worked.
Since the qilin wasn’t going to give me any answers, the only thing that I could do was rely on myself.
Which was why I went over to the wall to take a closer look at it and see if I could find anything special about it.
It didn’t seem like there was anything special about the wall at first, but then I thought about the lines that were on the ground. Seeing these lines gave me an idea, which was why I raised my hand and placed it on the wall.
When I did, I could sense that there was something strange about this wall.
It wasn’t something that could be seen with the naked eye since it was covered up.
That was why I pulled back my hand and summoned the Staff of Earth to tap on the wall.
The moment that the Staff of Earth made contact, there was a rumbling sound that came from the wall. Not long after that, it seemed like there was some kind of reaction that was coming from the wall as part of it began to shake.
It didn’t take long for that part to suddenly open up.
It was strange seeing the wall split open like this, but there was a chunk of it that came away from the rest of the wall. This chunk moved as if it was pulled out of the wall itself.
I didn’t care about this chunk as I just used my power to toss it on the side.
Instead, what I cared about was the cross section of the part of the wall that I ripped out.
When I saw what was there, I had my answer.
In fact, it was hard not to have an answer when it was like this.
There were lines that were inside of that cross section of the wall that seemed to match the lines that were on the ground. It was as if there was something that had been pushed away with the way that it was patterned.
So from the very beginning, this cave was something that had been created by the qilin.
I had already been doubtful of this place considering the location that it was in and the way that it was structured.
So the moment that I saw this, I was able to piece it together.
Whoever had left this egg here had left it out in the open.
Since it was vulnerable being out in the open, there must have been some kind of defense mechanism activated for this qilin egg that caused it to form this cave.
With the similarity that the qilin’s power had to my divine energy, it made sense that it would be able to create this cave with this power.
That was what those lines represented.
The waves of energy that the qilin released had created layers of sediment around it until it formed this cave. Those layers kept getting pushed out around the egg which created the pattern of lines in the walls and ground.
Though it was strange that the ground had this pattern…
But even though I had figured out the mystery behind this cave, that didn’t mean anything since that didn’t give me any ideas of what the origin of this qilin was.
After looking at the cross section once more, I gave a sigh and gave up.
It didn’t seem like I would be able to figure out the origin of the qilin with just this, so there was no point in trying to push this matter.
Turning around, I said, “Clean this place up.”
Klein and the royal guards that had been following me nodded to show that they understood.
Though it seemed like they were also interested in the cross section of the cave.
It was just that they didn’t seem to understand what exactly I was looking at.
I didn’t bother explaining since it wouldn’t have mattered if they understood.
What I really wanted to do was to destroy this cave, but it would have been a bit too much to explain.
Which was why I chose to do something else with it.
It was a place that monsters were naturally attracted to, so if we were to fill this place with the energy that the monsters were attracted to…
It would make a great place to bait in monsters so we could regularly cull them.
With this system, it would certainly be a lot easier for the racial alliance to deal with the monster problem.
Not to mention that we didn’t have to limit ourselves to this single cave.
