Chapter 2020: Balanced (2)
The two of us looked even more confused as we had no idea what he meant by this.
However, Rose changed the topic by asking, “For now, is she safe?”
This time, Max didn’t seem to have any hesitation as he said, “Yes, there’s no problem at all. In fact, her condition is better than before since there’s no need for her body to fight against that corruption energy deep inside of her.”
Both of us let out sighs of relief when we heard this.
Even though we had no idea what was happening, we did trust Max’s medical skills since he had proven himself many times.
Just the fact that she was doing better was already good news.
Though we didn’t let ourselves be relieved for that long since there was still a bigger issue here.
“What is causing it?”
This was a question that made Max reveal an awkward look.
It was as if he didn’t really know how to explain it since he hadn’t been able to find the source of the balance. The only thing that Max had been able to find with his instruments was that there was something that was balancing out the corruption energy.
Seeing the look on his face, it wasn’t hard to guess what he was thinking.
So instead of asking this question again or pressuring him, I asked, “Can we go in?”
Max wasn’t the only one that was surprised by this, Rose was also caught off guard when I asked this.
But then the two of them seemed to realize that there was a reason for my actions and they started following me.
I went into the room that Dorothy and the qilin were waiting in.
When they saw us, the two of them immediately looked like they wanted to come over to me. However, they stopped when they saw that Max and Rose were behind me.
Or it was better to say that they stopped because of Max.
The qilin didn’t know Max that well, but it seemed like it was afraid of Max because of something.
The way that the qilin looked at Max was like how children looked at doctors.
Thinking about how Max had used his different instruments to do a check up on Dorothy, it wasn’t strange that this was the way that the qilin saw Max.
Was it just a natural fear that kids had towards doctors?
I couldn’t help finding all of this a bit funny, but that wasn’t the reason that I came into the room.
Instead, I reached out towards the qilin who looked surprised to see this.
As I waited, I could see that there was a trace of hesitation that was coming from the qilin’s eyes. It seemed that the qilin did know something about all of this, just like I had guessed.
Still, I waited for the qilin to come into my hands as I said, “I know, but don’t worry. I just want to test something.”
The qilin listened to me after I said this and came into my hands.
The moment that it did, there was this sensation that came from Dorothy. It felt like there was something dark that came over her the moment that the qilin left her grasp.
I turned to Max and he knew what I was asking for, so he came forward with his instruments.
When he was done with his readings, he looked down at the qilin in my hands.
With this result, it was impossible to miss what it had been that had balanced out the situation in Dorothy’s body. Which was why when Max looked at the qilin, there was a strange look that was in his eyes.
The way that he looked at the qilin wasn’t as if he was looking at some living creature, the way that he looked at the qilin was as if he was looking at some kind of test subject.
It was impossible for the qilin to miss this and it dug itself into my arms when it saw this.
It seemed like this was going to be one of the things that the qilin would remember in its long life.
Pushing Max’s face back, I said, “Enough of that. Focus on studying what it is that’s stabilizing her condition instead and don’t think about that.”
Max looked disappointed when he heard this, so I said with a sigh, “I’ll give you some of its energy as well since you’ll need to study that as well. Just don’t do anything to leave a trauma on it.”
Max perked up a bit, but there was still a trace of disappointment in his eyes.
Still, it wasn’t as if I would back down on this.
It was already a large concession that I was making, so it wasn’t as if I was going to make any other concessions.
Max could see this as well, so he started going back to his equipment to take a closer look at the reports.
Once he was gone, I put the qilin back into Dorothy’s hands.
The moment that the qilin entered Dorothy’s hands, the expression on her face became much better.
“Play here for a bit. We’re going to talk about a few things.” I said to the two of them before leading Rose away.
When it was just the two of us, Rose gave a sigh before saying, “You really come up with all kinds of surprising things don’t you?”
A wry smile appeared on my face, but it wasn’t as if I could deny this.
This wasn’t something that I had expected either, but I could guess what it was that was creating this.
At the same time, it really confirmed something.
The element that the qilin’s energy possessed that I had already suspected was in direct conflict with the corruption energy.
So the fact that it could suppress the corruption energy inside of Dorothy showed that this was indeed what I had been thinking.
With a sigh, I said, “Just let them stay together for now.”
Rose gave a nod, but she knew that this was all just a temporary solution.
