Chapter 2023: Allergic reaction?

With the speed of the royal guards, it really took no time at all for us to arrive in the Merman Empire.

In fact, I saw that they even used a few things that made us move even faster than normal. These were clearly potions that had been obtained from the sea witches.

After the gap between the sea witches and the Merman Empire had been closed, it seemed that there were quite a few things that had been exchanged between the two sides.

After all, there were even sea witch potions that were being used by the royal guards now.

If this was before, this certainly never would have happened.

With this, we actually arrived in the Merman Empire after a day of traveling.

Once we were there, I wasn’t brought to the palace.

Instead, I was brought to a manor that had been locked up by the royal guards. With how many royal guards were standing guard over this place, it seemed like they were quite serious about keeping this place separate from the rest of the world.

Though they allowed me in when they saw that it was me being escorted by the royal guards.

Once I was inside of the manor, I found the Merman King waiting for me with a grim look on his face.

Since this was something that he had personally taken the lead on, this was something that he cared about very much. At the same time, if he were to allow something to happen to the members of the other races…

Simply put, he would no longer have any face as the ruler of the Merman Empire.

It would be like throwing away the face of his entire family.

Which was why he was hoping that I would have some kind of method to solve this matter.

I didn’t have much hope either, but I just followed the Merman King in to see the patients.

When I arrived, I couldn’t help revealing a strange look.

Though I wasn’t an actual doctor and didn’t know much about conditions like this, there was something that I could see from the condition that these members of the other race were in.

“Is this an allergic reaction?”

The appearance that these members of the other race had was similar to someone that was having a serious allergic reaction. I thought that this was something that was common in both worlds, but then again…

This world only had the medical technology of a medieval society and there was healing magic, so it wasn’t as if people cared that much about allergies in the first place. They would be able to heal themselves with magic if necessary if they did have an allergic reaction.

In this case, it seemed like they were using potions and healing magic to stabilize them.

But even with all of this, it didn’t seem like the patients were getting better.

“Does this mean that there’s something in the water that’s causing this allergic reaction in them? If that’s the case, then why did they show no signs until now?” I couldn’t help thinking to myself as I observed their conditions.

From what I knew about allergic reactions in my past life, these were clearly the signs of a severe allergic reaction. This was the kind of reaction that shouldn’t have had a delay and would have shown signs right away.

The fact that these patients didn’t show any signs until now just didn’t make any sense at all.

For them to still show signs even after being healed meant that there was something that was touching them that was still causing these symptoms…

“Perhaps there was a reason why they were exiled in the first place?” With the information that I had, this was the conclusion that I came to in the end.

The Merman King narrowed his eyes to look at me anxiously, but I didn’t tell him anything since I hadn’t thought things through yet. To tell him my conclusion now would just be giving him false hope.

Instead, it seemed like the main thing now was to see if I could do anything for these patients.

“Where’s the kraken?”

The Merman King was surprised to hear this, but he didn’t say anything as he entered a different room. When he came back, he came back with the kraken beside him.

The kraken seemed displeased seeing the patients on the beds, but it came over to my side as if it was waiting for some kind of command.

I didn’t exactly know what to do either since I never used the power of the kraken before, but this was something that was possible since I had formed that contract with the kraken.

It was this power that I needed right now.

After all, there was a reason why these patients had never reacted like this before leaving their homes.

Once the kraken came over, I reached out for it to wrap around my hand.

I didn’t really know how we would be able to share our power, but this felt like it was right.

After the kraken wrapped around my hand, I could feel the connection between the two of us and the power that it possessed.

With this connection, I was able to draw on the power that the kraken had and create balls of water around the patients.

We were under the water, so they were already surrounded by water. However, the ball of water that I created was different from the water that they had been surrounded by previously.

After all, these balls of water had things that were like currents inside of them.

As these currents turned inside of the balls of water, it was as if there was something that was being pushed out.

It didn’t take long for the balls of water to look different from the water around it.

These balls of water had been purified with the power of the currents so that they were nothing more than pure water.
