Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure - Chapter 2029: It was all a cover up

Chapter 2029: It was all a cover up
“Lord Aquaron…”
When the ball of blue light said this, I couldn’t help being caught off guard once more.
With it saying this, it was clear that the relationship between the two of them wasn’t as bad as they made it seem.
In fact, I could hear the trace of respect in their voice as they said this.
It was clear that whatever they had made their relationship seem wasn’t the truth.
It seemed that there was a deeper story behind all of this.
Seeing them like this, I couldn’t help wondering just how many people or even gods knew about this. I even had to wonder if the kraken had been kept in the dark the entire time.
If even a god’s messenger was kept in the dark by the god that they served…
Aquaron just raised a hand to stop Aestum from saying anything else before saying, “It’s fine, this isn’t your fault. This is actually a good thing since it fixes one of the mistakes that I made in the past.”
Though Aestum didn’t say anything, the ball of blue light did flicker a bit as if there was something that it did want to say.
In the end, Aquaron turned back to me to say, “Now, I’ll tell you the truth.”
Once again, I didn’t say anything as I waited for them to say what they wanted to say.
I didn’t know anything about what this situation was, so it wasn’t as if there was anything that I could say in the first place.
After a moment of silence, Aquaron said with a sigh, “The simple matter of the fact is that I’ve failed those races that were exiled. There was a very simple reason why they were exiled and I’m sure that you’ve already seen it.”
I couldn’t help knitting my brows when I heard this.
After a long moment of thought, I finally said, “The allergy that they demonstrated? Was that something that you caused?”
“It’s not something that Lord Aquaron caused, it’s something that…”
Aquaron raised his hand again to cut Aestum off before saying with a sigh, “It’s not as if that’s wrong.”
“Lord Aquaron…” Aestum said in a voice that seemed to be filled with pain.
Regardless of how they acted, it wasn’t as if I would let them get away with just this alone.
Aquaron seemed to know this as well, so they said, “The reason that they show those symptoms is because they are beings made of pure water elemental energy. They were among the first things that I created back then and they were among the creations that I was the most proud of.”
My brow couldn’t help raising at this since it really didn’t seem like that was the case with how things unfolded, but I held my tongue to see what else he had to say.
“The problem lies with the fact that they were formed from pure water elemental energy. That meant that they are beings that just aren’t compatible with anything other than water. As time passed, there were more and more things that came into the ocean because of the creation of the other gods.”
With a sigh, Aquaron continued, “I never blamed them since this was just how life was supposed to be. All different things come together to form an ecosystem and they would adapt to create more life. The problem was that these races just couldn’t adapt like the mermaids could.”
As he said this, there was a part of me that couldn’t help slowly coming to the side of what he was saying. This was all because I had seen the symptoms that the other races had demonstrated and it was clear that it was because they couldn’t adapt, which caused their immune system to attack them like that.
But there was of course one more plot hole that didn’t seem to make sense.
I couldn’t help turning to look at Aestum while having a look as if I was demanding them to explain themselves.
Aestum naturally saw me looking at them like this, so they said, “I volunteered for that role since I was the one that was best suited for that role. It was to create a place where these remaining few survivors would be able to live in peace. After all, I was the best in filtration and creating a safe space for them.”
Then all of a sudden, their voice changed as they said, “Lord Aquaron, please forgive me for all the slander that I had to say about you over the years. I never meant any of it and always regretted saying those things.”
Aquaron once again raised their hand as they said, “It was I who put you through that, so I should apologize to you. You have been my most faithful follower all these years, covering up for me all this time.
“Lord Aquaron.”
There was a feeling of heartburn that filled my chest seeing them act this way.
I didn’t come all this way to see these two gods acting this way towards each other.
However, everything that they had said had explained all the things that I had been thinking about.
All of the puzzle pieces fit into place and I could see the final picture.
Though it seemed like this final picture was…
“So you were being selfish.” I said in a blunt manner.
“You can’t say that!” Aestum immediately shouted in response.
However, Aquaron just calmly said, “Yes, you could say that I was. However, I also just wanted to protect my creations.”
A look of disdain appeared on my face hearing this from them.
I really didn’t know what I was expecting as a response, but this was not it.
But at the same time, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to get anything else out of this god.
So in the end, I said, “Then I’ll clean up your mess. I hope that you will repay this favour one day.”
Aquaron just gave a simple nod in response before waving his hand to send me back.
