Chapter 2085: All kinds of strange lifeforms

On the first day, I found this kind of strange fish that was swimming through the lava.

It wasn’t the appearance of the fish that was strange since it was a normal looking koi fish.

It was the fact that this fish was swimming through lava without burning to a crisp that was strange.

There was no doubt that this fish was just like the plant, it had adapted to its environment and had evolved in a way that allowed it to survive in lava like this.

For it to adapt in this way, there had to be something special about it.

Since it was a being that could move around, it was easier to figure out what the evolution of this fish was.

It was actually quite simple, it was an affinity to fire elemental energy.

This allowed the fish to absorb the heat from the lava that it swam in and survive even though it was inside of lava.

Other than that, it also gave the fish the ability to control that fire elemental energy in the form of creating flames.

This became more of a defense mechanism more than anything else.

When I attempted to approach it, the fish suddenly turned its head at me and spat flames right at me. With my defenses, it wasn’t as if the fish was strong enough to break through with just these flames.

Though it certainly did catch me off guard to have a fish spit flames at me.

However, for the flame elementals, this wasn’t anything.

The flame elementals were made of flames to begin with, so it was easy for them to ignore the flames that came from the fish. They weren’t anywhere close to being hot enough to harm the flame elementals.

The only thing that happened was that they laughed off the flames that hit their bodies.

One other thing that I noticed was that the flame elementals were using nets to fish out these fishes like crazy. It was as if they hadn’t eaten in a long time with the way that they were fishing them out.

There was a part of me that even wondered if they would wipe them out with overfishing.

However, the flame elementals were confident that this wouldn’t be the case.

“There weren’t that many fish just yesterday. It’s all because of the ceremony that we held that brought the vitality back to our rivers.”

They were the ones that lived here all this time, so there was no one that knew more about this place than them.

Though there was one more thing that I had to ask, “What about the things that you brought to the ceremony before? If you didn’t have that much, then how could you use them for the ceremony?”

“We have to pay respects to those that allow us to live this kind of life. It hasn’t always been easy in the past for us…”

“Of course, that’s what I’ve heard from the ancestors.”

A bitter smile appeared on my face when I heard this, but I didn’t ask anything else.

The second day, I found that there were even land creatures that started filling this place.

It was almost as if every day brought a new kind of discovery.

Though with how developed these land creatures were, it was strange to think that they had just formed not that long ago. After all, there had been no signs of these land creatures before this and the flame elementals insisted that this was the case.

But when I thought about it, it really seemed like it was more likely that these things had been hiding in their lairs since there was nothing here to support them. It only made sense that they would be hiding or else they wouldn’t have spawned this quickly.

The different kinds of land animals were the same as the fish in the lava river.

All of them had the same kind of adaptation as the fish where they had gained the ability to control fire elemental energy.

If it wasn’t for this, they certainly wouldn’t have been able to live in a place like this.

That meant that all of them had the ability to spit out flames just like the fish.

It really was a shocking sight to see all of these animals spitting out flames, but the flame elementals took care of them.

“What kind of things do you eat?” I had to ask when I saw them hunting down the land animals as well.

The flame elementals looked at me with a confused look as if they couldn’t understand why I was asking this question, but then they answered with direct examples.

“We can eat anything as long as we can burn it.”

To prove this, they took all kinds of things and threw them into the flames that counted as their faces. Once those things entered them, they were immediately turned to ashes by the powerful flames of the flame elementals.

In a way, it seemed like they were eating…

But it was more like they were burning and disposing of things with how they ’ate’ these things.

Though I could tell that the real thing that was being extracted from the things that were being burnt were the fire elemental energy that these things had condensed.

The flame elementals were beings that were made of elemental energy in the first place, so it only made sense that their nutrition would also be elemental energy.

It was just that it was strange seeing the way that they obtained it.

It also reminded me of the other ability that the flame elementals, or rather all elementals had in general which was why we had to keep them away from the forces of Destruction.

This kind of ability really did seem a bit broken if they could absorb all kinds of energy.

But I knew that there was one kind that they couldn’t absorb or they wouldn’t need the protection of the gods.

“Divine energy really is something else.”
