Chapter 2091: It’s a seal (2)
The whole reason that the elementals were sealed away was because they attracted unwanted attention from the forces of Destruction.
The forces of Destruction wanted to take the elementals under them because of their special ability.
So that was why the seals were placed to keep them in, even though it had been disguised as a reward for their efforts in the war of the gods.
But to think that they even went further and sealed off the land above the seals…
To think that they would go this far just to keep people away from these places.
Though it seemed a bit wrong, I had to admit that their methods were effective.
After all, the places that the seals existed were known as taboo areas that people didn’t explore. Not only that, since there was nothing to gain from exploring those places, they were completely abandoned.
But one did have to think about the future.
The more that the races of the continent grew, the more space that they needed.
If one day they reached a point where they no longer had any space to grow, wouldn’t they try to figure out a way to settle these taboo lands?
In the end, it was all about necessity.
Though it wasn’t as if the continent was anywhere near close enough to reaching that point yet and before we even reached that point, I had been sent to help the elementals and learned about all of this.
“Do the gods really know everything that’s going to happen, or are they just making it happen?”
The way that things progressed, it seemed that the latter was more likely.
Still, this wasn’t the time to think about that.
Instead, I asked the ancestors, “How does it work? Creation divine energy shouldn’t work like this since it creates things out of nothing, it doesn’t convert one thing into another.”
At this, the ancestors just shook their heads before saying, “We don’t know anything about this. That is the domain of the gods, it’s not something that we simple elementals would know about.”
There was a tone of reverence in their voice as they said this.
It seemed that unlike the other elementals, these two truly had faith in the gods and followed them.
But then again, these two had fought in the war and had seen the power of gods. It would only make sense that they would have this kind of worship towards the gods.
Still, I had to figure out what the problem was with the red gem and the rock pillar that was doing something like this.
“In the first place, mortals shouldn’t be able to use divine energy. So it is strange that the elementals would be able to activate it just with their ceremonies.”
It didn’t take me long to figure out what the problem was, but it also didn’t solve anything until I thought to take a close look at the red gem.
This talk with the ancestors had completely solved the mystery.
The red gem created that cold to keep people away and they were told not to hold that ceremony during the time that I was here so that I could stay here. After all, the land above this place would become completely uninhabitable if the temperature dropped even more than it did now.
So I was supposed to remain in that place until it was all over.
I couldn’t help feeling that the seal over the rock elemental’s territory wasn’t as serious as this one was…
Still, it wasn’t as if it was my place to judge the design of the gods.
I went with the ancestors to the red gem.
I could have gone with the other flame elementals, but it seemed like the ancestors were curious about what I was looking for. It seemed that even the ancestors didn’t know about this thing.
After looking at the red gem for a bit, I figured out what it was.
I hadn’t looked at the red gem or the rock pillar closely since I had been focused on the sensation that came from injecting divine energy into it.
But when I looked at it more closely, I found that there was something strange about it.
It was the fact that mortals could activate it with their ceremony and that was because there was some kind of divine energy array that was on it that caused this.
I didn’t understand it at first, but then it slowly seemed to make sense the more that I stared at it.
I didn’t understand how I could see through the array, but the array was one that allowed for this red gem to be activated by mortals.
It was simply because mortals just couldn’t use the full power of the divine energy, which was why they had to use this array to convert that power into what they wanted to do with it.
But there was a consequence to this which was the whole changing one thing into another.
It meant that this was used as a form of compensation to ensure that this conversion was possible.
It seemed like the gods really had thought of everything when creating this thing.
It was just that if I wasn’t here to refill it, then it wouldn’t have been possible for this thing to keep running. After all, part of the creation divine energy was also burned during this conversion which made the red gem shrink faster.
Looking at the array on the red gem, I couldn’t help feeling that there was a way to improve it.
It wasn’t as if there was anything to gain from this, but I just felt like I wanted to fix this flaw…
“If there’s something that can take the place of this price, then it should be able to reduce the strain on the red gem’s creation divine energy. Only what would be possible to take the place of this compensation?”
My expression slowly changed as I pondered this question until I had my answer.
It was just that I was hesitant to test this answer.
