Chapter 2126: Withering tree

Following the wood elementals, it didn’t seem like we were being brought to anywhere specific.

Looking around, it didn’t seem like there were any landmarks for us to follow at all.

But eventually, we did see something in the distance.

It was hard to miss this thing since it was so big, but I noticed something else with this thing. It was giving off a sensation that really was hard to ignore since it was divine energy that it was releasing.

Not to mention that this divine energy wasn’t normal divine energy.

It was creation attributed divine energy.

So this was the source that I was supposed to revive by injecting divine energy into it.

As we came closer, I could see that there was something off about this tree.

Once we were close enough, I knew exactly what it was that was off about it.

This tree didn’t seem to function the same as the other sources that maintained the other realms. It didn’t seem to grow smaller as the divine energy inside of it was consumed to create what the elementals needed.

Instead, it seemed like the tree withered the more divine energy was consumed from it.

With how withered it seemed now, it really seemed like this place was in danger.

It seemed like this was the reason why the wood elementals had acted the way that they had acted previously. It seemed like they knew that there was a big problem with this tree.

But that could be easily solved now that I was here.

Only before I could reach the tree, I found that there were things that were planted in front of the tree. These were smaller trees that seemed to be planted in a ring around the giant tree in the center of this village created by the wood elementals.

Just a single glance was enough to tell that none of these trees were normal.

The wood elementals that had been guiding us came forward to talk to those trees that were surrounding the giant tree.

“Ancestor, the one from the prophecy is here.”

When they said this, the tree that had been still in front of the giant tree suddenly seemed to stir. Parts of that tree started to move as a face appeared on the trunk of that tree.

Seeing this, I couldn’t help thinking of ents from my past life.

After all, this was a perfect example of that.

There was also a part of me that couldn’t help wondering if there were dryads here as well.

When the face formed, the eyes of that face looked right at me. The way that this face looked at me made it clear that this tree was scrutinizing me.

It seemed like they were looking me up from head to toe.

I didn’t say anything as I waited to see what this tree would say.

“Thank you for coming. I can sense the power of the gods in you. I hope that you will be able to restore this realm.”

The wood elemental ancestor really didn’t say much.

It just said very simple sentences before it moved out of the way for me to approach the withered tree.

It wasn’t the only one that moved out of the way, the other trees that had been surrounding the withered tree also moved out of the way at the same time.

Seeing this, I couldn’t help raising a brow as I wondered something, “Are they all part of the same ancestor or are they all separate ancestors?”

But this wasn’t the time to be asking that, so I moved past the trees and went to observe the withering giant tree.

As I walked past, I could tell that the different trees seemed to have different auras.

It should have meant that these were all different ancestors…

“This tree really is running out of divine energy.”

It was easy for me to come to this conclusion as I stood there in front of the withered giant tree. That withered giant tree just seemed like it was about to collapse at any moment with how fragile it was.

It really seemed like it needed divine energy as soon as possible.

So that was why I moved forward to inject my divine energy into this withered tree.

The problem occurred when I made contact with that withered tree.

“Why is this happening?”

A shocked look appeared on my face as part of the bark of the withered tree broke off.

It wasn’t that this part was so fragile that it broke off because I touched it, it was that this was the reaction that it had to the divine energy that I injected into this withered tree. It was as if the moment that the withered tree came into contact with the divine energy, there was some kind of negative reaction that came from the withered tree.

Luckily, it was a small reaction and the wood elementals didn’t seem to notice this.

Otherwise, I was certain that they would have started chasing me down because of this.

There was no doubt that they wouldn’t have let me off for harming the source of their realm.

But there was still a problem since I couldn’t inject divine energy into the withered tree like this.

“Is it because the divine energy is too strong for the withered tree to absorb? If that’s the case, then does that mean that it’s already too late to help this tree?”

The more that I thought about it, the more dire it all seemed.

It was just that this really wasn’t the place for me to give up on this.

After thinking about it, I finally came to a conclusion.

“If I want to have a chance of saving this thing, then I’ll have to figure out a way to weaken my own divine energy so that it won’t harm this tree.”

Only after I came to this conclusion, a wry smile appeared on my face.

“This is easier said than done…”
