It didn’t take long for Moon to find Selene and Yara hanging out and enjoying their time together. They were surprised by meeting him, and after telling him what happened Selene and Yara both apologized for leaving him alone when an outcast was out roaming the base.
Selene and Yara kept apologizing every now and then, realising that their mistake could have led to serious consequences had Moon failed to wake up at the same correct time.
Eventually, they stopped after Moon had insisted, although Moon could still see that they were apologetic.
Selene and Yara explained what happened since they saw him laying down in the pavilion till the very end where they just met him once again. At that point, Moon was certain that the assassin had indeed been a random outcast, not an assassin sent to make a message.
As they made their back to the inn to grab Mirage, Moon said to Selene, “So, what are you planning to do? Are you going to ascend? You should be almost ready with your tasks, your hardest task is basically out of the way.”
Selene looked conflicted for a moment before nodding her head eventually, “Yes, I’m planning to ascend within this week. I need to sort out some things before I enter the Second Sanctuary, as you know, it’s not as easy as the First Sanctuary.
Also, I need to help Yara settle down, and make some paperwork for her to come to earth without any issues with me. Although I would need to put her as beast of mine, which is disgusting…but we have to.” Yara shook her head, “It’s okay, I know you guys don’t treat me like a beast. This is just do deal with the system, which is fine.”
Selene nodded her head, ruffling Yara’s soft hair.
Back at the inn’s stables, Moon spent about ten minutes with Mirage, making sure his companion understood that he was well and recovered. The bond between them had strengthened considerably during their time on Lunaris Island, and Mirage’s obvious relief at seeing Moon conscious and mobile was almost touching. …
Later that evening, the three of them gathered in one of their booked rooms inside the inn. Sensing the perfect opportunity, Moon decided to address his own immediate concerns.
“Selene, I need your help with my tasks. I’m not sure where I could find more S-Rank beasts, but I need a lot of them. The more the merrier, could you help me look around for places where such beasts are rumored to exist? Even if it’s dangerous?” Moon asked, sitting down in the gathering with Selene and Yara since the night was still young.
Selene didn’t hesitate. “Of course. I’ll ask around when we get back to Earth. I know a few information brokers and veteran awakeners who should be able to point you towards a good hunting grounds that fit your requirements.”
“Thanks.” Moon said sincerely.
With one of his major concerns addressed, Moon felt some tension leave his shoulders. He opened his status mentally, examining his remaining tasks: — [Kill Fifty level 25 creatures classified at S-Rank power level alone. 3/50]
[Copy and comprehend 5 Uncommon/Rare or higher ranked skills. 4/5] [Gain a Legendary Rank Skill. 0/1]
— Moon stared at the task list with pleasant surprise. ‘The inheritance skills counted toward my skill comprehension task,’ he realized. ‘I didn’t actually copy those skills in the traditional sense, they were just… granted. But somehow it still counted.’ He thought about it for a moment, then nodded to himself. ‘Maybe it’s because the main point is comprehending the skill, truly understanding how it works and making it your own. The method of acquisition doesn’t matter as much as the end result of mastery.’ It made sense, in a way. Moon’s mind turned to the assassin he’d defeated earlier. The man had possessed a more refined version of [Dagger Arts]—his technique had been superior to Moon’s, even if his physical attributes couldn’t match up. Normally, Moon would have copied such a skill without hesitation. But he’d deliberately chosen not to. Because he wanted something more useful.
His plan was straightforward: find a Beast Master or similar class holder in the base and copy their class. The Beast Master class wasn’t exactly common, but it wasn’t very rare either. If he could acquire a beast taming or companion bonding skill, it would solve multiple problems simultaneously. Most importantly, it would let them ascend together to the Second Sanctuary when the time came. Without such a skill, Mirage would have to remain in the First Sanctuary when Moon evolved, which was… unacceptable. Or ascend and fall under the jurisdiction of the system to place him in any random location it wanted, away from Moon. They’d fought together, grown together, nearly died together. Moon wasn’t about to abandon his companion just because the system made it inconvenient to bring him along. As for healers, they existed in every base, another viable option to copy currently. Healing abilities were universally valuable and would round out his capabilities nicely. The Legendary Rank Skill requirement still loomed as an unknown challenge. Moon had no clear path to acquiring one, no obvious opportunity presenting itself. But he wasn’t particularly worried yet. There was still time, and he’d be actively hunting S-rank beasts for weeks or months. Surely something would present itself during that process. “I’m going to step out for a bit,” Moon said, standing from their gathering. “I want to ask around the base about something.” “Need company?” Selene offered. “No, I’m fine. Won’t be long.” “Okay!”
Moon excused himself from the gathering and left the inn. Moon grabbed Mirage from the stables before stepping out into Rocketer Base’s evening atmosphere. The base had transformed as night fell. The Twin Moons adored the sky, bathing the base in their luminous colors. Magical lights illuminated the main pathways with soft, warm radiance.
Awakeners moved between establishments, the day’s business giving way to evening leisure. As Moon walked through the streets, casually scanning for anyone who might have information about Beast Masters or healers in the area, he spotted a familiar figure. **
