His lives were slowly accumulating again after the massive death toll he had fell to during the S-rank gate ordeal against the Three Tailed Illusion Fox.
His attributes had also reached an all-time high, though he suspected, almost certain that any further improvement would require encountering another Supreme Creature—something he definitely wasn’t prepared to face again so soon.
Too many variables had aligned perfectly during his battle with the Three-Tailed Illusion Fox. His preparation, the partial activation of his inherited title, the fox’s overconfidence, the environment—all had contributed to his unlikely victory. He doubted he could replicate such success against another Supreme-rank opponent without significantly more preparation.
His displayed mana attribute was somewhat misleading. While the base 82 points were impressive, his equipment bonuses pushed his effective mana into triple digits. The [Tidecaller’s Bracelet] and [Staff of Fire and Water] each provided +10 Mana, bringing his total magical capacity to 107 with the passive boost of [Tenacity].
‘Time to return to Earth for a few hours of rest, then continue traveling toward the Crimson Wasteland,’ Moon decided, his body disappearing from the base’s portal as he returned to the First Sanctuary.
After exiting the Earth-side portal, Moon made his way back to his apartment through the city streets.
Knock-knock!
He knocked on his own door before slowly unlocking it, giving Yara—and potentially Selene—time to react appropriately before he entered. Despite owning the apartment, he was currently sharing the space with others, and respecting a girl’s privacy was important.
‘I don’t want to fall into the same scenario I had fallen with that Association Branch Manager near his previous accommodation—Isabelle.
Inside, Yara immediately welcomed him with obvious happiness. She had been feeling very lonely in the apartment.
“Welcome back! How did your journey go?”
“Did Selene contact you or answer any calls?” Moon asked, noticing her continued absence from the apartment.
Yara shook her head with visible concern. “I’m afraid not. I’m starting to worry about her, but considering how powerful her brother appeared to be, I’m sure she’s safe.”
At that exact moment, Yara’s phone began ringing from where it sat on the living room table.
Both turned toward the sound simultaneously.
“It’s her!” Yara exclaimed with excitement, rushing to answer the device.
Moon nodded and walked towards the living room, close enough to hear their voices.
“Selene! Where have you been? We were both so worried about you!”
On the other end of the call, Selene’s eyes widened slightly at Yara’s words. ‘They were both worried about me? Moon was concerned too?’ The thought brought unexpected warmth to her chest, though she didn’t comment on it directly.
“Sorry for the silence,” Selene replied, her voice betraying fatigue she was feeling. “I’ve been incredibly busy dealing with… some things. I just saw all your missed calls and wanted to let you know I’m perfectly fine. Actually, I’m only a few minutes away from the apartment now, let’s talk in detail later.”
“That’s wonderful! We’ll be here waiting!” Yara responded enthusiastically, excited to see Selene again. She had been feeling lonely alone.
She had never been left alone for so long since she was born, there was always someone around her, whether it was her friends or family. She was the maiden of the clan, and her safety was important.
Furthermore, being alone in the house made her feel all sorts of emotions—reminiscing on her previous life, before the heretics had killed her family and friends. Tears had flooded her eyes numerous times during the time was absent, but she didn’t show that to him nor would she show it to Selene. No matter how hard things get, she needed to be strong. Strong enough to no longer be at the mercy of others, and to return to Lunaris with her head raised proudly, her goal accomplished.
Moon felt a hint of relief hearing Selene’s voice. Whatever business her brother had needed her for, it sounded like it had been resolved successfully.
Soon they’d all be reunited, and Moon could share some of the Supreme creature meat he’d saved for them. Fortunately, consuming the cooked meat wouldn’t provide any system notifications about the fox’s actual rank—just the attribute bonuses.
While Moon trusted both women, he remained hesitant about revealing the full scope of his discoveries. It wasn’t that he doubted Selene’s discretion, but with her powerful brother now in the picture, there was always the possibility she might share that information with Alaric. And Moon had no way of predicting how someone of that caliber might react to learning about Supreme Creatures or Super Lives.
The knowledge was simply too dangerous and valuable to share carelessly.
For now, he would offer them the benefits of the meat while keeping its true origin and significance to himself.
True to her word, Selene arrived within minutes, her knocking echoing through the apartment.
Yara practically sprinted to the door, a wide smile adorning her face.
Click!
The door swung open, revealing Selene in an elegant outfit, something that Moon hadn’t seen Selene wear before.
She wore a long brown trench coat that fell gracefully below her knees, fitting close to her figure while flowing naturally as she moved. Underneath, she’d chosen simple, neat clothing that complemented the outer layer perfectly. A beige Panama hat rested atop her head, its flat brim perfectly framing her delicate face and adding an air of mysterious charm to her beauty.
“Selene! I missed you so much!” Yara exclaimed, immediately throwing her two arms around her friend in an enthusiastic embrace.
Selene returned Yara’s hug warmly, a soft smile spreading across her face as she held Yara closely, clearly having missed her friend’s cheerful presence.
