SSS Awakening: I Can Class Change at will - Chapter 295 Receiving a Quest [2]

Chapter 295 Receiving a Quest [2]
“If you prefer, you can remain there while I arrange a support team to assist with clearing the occupied base. I can only arrange a support team made of A-Rank awakeners for you. Unfortunately I can’t join you since I’m too far from the base. You are the closest S-Ranker available.” “Do the rewards decrease if others participate?” Moon asked directly.
“A little, but it would be much saf—”
“No need. I can do it alone.”
Feeling a little greedy, Moon asked, “Where is the other base? Is it close to the Bastion Base?”
“Yes, both bases are around two hours away from each other. The organisation had attacked both to ensure that our group cannot aid the other later on.”
“Okay, I will head to the Bastion base immediately. As for the other base, I will let you know later.”
The line went quiet for a moment.
“Alright. I’ll send you the exact coordinates and intelligence reports about the hostile forces.”
Moon nodded despite being on a voice call. “Send me everything you have. I’ll be inside the sanctuary within five minutes, have it sent by then.”
“Okay.”
Another solo mission against S-rank opponents, with excellent rewards and advancement opportunities.
Moon changed his trajectory, returning back to the Sanctuary Portal rather than his apartment. As he made his way, he sent a quick message to Yara and Selene’s phones to let them know that he was fine, and he was going to be away for some time.
By the time Moon arrived at the portal location, Kael had already sent the files and Moon had looked through them entirely.
♢♢♢♢
Moon didn’t waste any time at Stonewatch base, nor did he attempt to copy skills from any of the local awakeners. With S-rank enemy combatants waiting for him at the target location, Moon was naturally going to preserve his class slot for such powerful opponents.
‘Time to copy a Rare skill and evolve it to Epic rank,’ Moon thought, excitement building as he anticipated the skill opportunity that awaited. Based on the information he received, the information was certainly going to be useful to him.
Riding his galloping Direhorse at the highest sustainable pace, Moon departed toward Bastion base, eager for the rewards and opportunities that would soon unfold.
Inside his beast taming space, Mirage remained deep in evolutionary slumber with no signs of awakening anytime soon.
After three hours and fifty minutes of constant travel with minimal rest, Moon found himself approximately five kilometers from his destination. Their fast pace, and his use of [Calmness] and [Minor Mend] on the dire horse had made their travel faster than initially expected.
They were currently navigating through a dense forest filled with thick trees whose girthy trunks created natural cover and concealment. Distant beast roars echoed through the woodland, but Moon ignored the beast sounds.
Nothing seemed odd. It was just like any other forest in the First Sanctuary—
Whoosh!
An arrow suddenly emerged from one of his visual blind spots, charging through the air at head level. Moon immediately retrieved his dagger, into his right hand through pure instinct.
CLANG!
His blade struck the projectile precisely in the center, cleaving it into two harmless pieces that clattered to the forest floor.
Moon’s eyes instantly snapped toward the position where the arrow had originated from, and a fireball began forming in his left hand. Within a mere second, he launched it directly toward a tree branch approximately fifty meters away where movement had betrayed the archer’s location.
Before the fireball could reach its target, the attacker leaped away from their perch.
BOOM!
Fire engulfed the massive tree as it toppled with burning branches and leaves cascading down. Although the archer escaped with his life intact, he didn’t get away scot-free. Several large, burning branches crashed onto him before he could get clear of his position.
At the same time, multiple arrows flew simultaneously from different positions, creating a barrage that was near impossible to parry. Moon deflected most of the projectiles successfully, but one arrow managed to pierce through his defense and struck the Direhorse in its rear leg.
NEIGH!
The creature cried out in pain and stumbled slightly.
Moon cursed internally. He wasn’t particularly concerned about these attackers injuring him personally, but harm to the Direhorse created serious problems for him.
His eyes rapidly scanned the entire surrounding area for additional threats. Realising that the number was bigger than he had anticipated, he activated his earth element, creating a protective dome around both himself and his wounded mount.
The earthen barrier provided immediate cover from the continuing assault that didn’t cease.
While shielded from prying eyes of predators that sought his life, Moon quickly cast [Minor Mend] on the Direhorse, healing energy flowing into the injured leg and rapidly healing the arrow wound.
Within seconds, the creature was restored to full mobility.
Outside their protective shelter, attacks continued striking the dome’s exterior—arrows, spears, and various magical spells testing the barrier’s durability as the unknown assailants maintained their coordinated offensive.
The dome held strong, Moon’s power as an S-Rank evident despite the enormous number of attackers.
Moon analyzed the situation quickly and efficiently. This was clearly an organized ambush rather than random forest bandits, which meant that the outcasts had established perimeter security around their captured base. Or a competing faction was attempting to interfere with Glassy Group operations, to seek the benefit themselves.
Either way, he needed to eliminate this threat quickly and continue toward his primary objective.
“Keep firing! No matter how strong he is, he will eventually run out of Mana. And once he does, he is dead meat!” A voice shouted, his voice echoing in the forest.
Spells continued to rain down on the dome. Moon made a small hole in the dome to see where his attackers were, and most of them were on tree branches tens of meters away, clearly not falling for the bait of closing in.
Even the close range combatants stood away, not advancing, but waiting for the right moment to attack. “They are quite cautious…well, no matter.”
Moon’s mana flared as he began to cast out one of his strongest spells. They were dead meat.
Things are slowing down after the arc. But it will return back to pace shortly.
