Chapter 335: A Night Out With Family
The moment they stepped into the house, warmth wrapped around them like a welcoming embrace.
The cold evening air faded behind them as the large doors shut softly, sealing in the comforting glow of lantern light and the faint scent of freshly cooked food. The interior of the Ackerman residence was alive with a quiet warmth that only a home could carry. Polished wooden floors reflected the golden light of the chandeliers above, while soft rugs muffled their footsteps as they entered.
Lily was already bouncing with excitement.
“Hurry, hurry!”
Ash fluttered in after them, its wings beating rapidly as it swooped across the hallway before circling Bruce once more, chirping happily.
Then Bruce’s eyes shifted toward the living room.
Lucy stood there.
She had clearly just finished preparing to leave. Her coat rested lightly over her shoulders, and the elegant dress she wore beneath it fit her perfectly, the soft fabric catching the warm light of the room. Her hair had been tied back neatly, a few loose strands framing her face.
For a moment she simply stared.
Surprised.
Then her expression softened immediately. “Bruce, you’re back?”
Her voice carried both surprise and quiet warmth.
Bruce smiled faintly.
“Yes,” he replied calmly. “I can’t miss this fun you guys are going to have.”
Lucy’s lips curved into a gentle smile at that.
There was something about seeing her son walk through the door that always eased a small part of her heart.
“Are you done with the stuff you needed to do?” she asked.
Bruce shook his head lightly.
“I’m not done. I just put a pause on it.”
He shrugged casually.
“This is more important. I can continue with that later.”
Lucy’s smile deepened slightly at his answer.
Before she could reply.
“Let’s go so we won’t be late!” Lily suddenly burst out excitedly.
She had already rushed toward the front door and thrown it open, her bright voice filling the hallway.
“We have to get good seats!”
Ash chirped loudly in agreement, fluttering toward the entrance as if supporting Lily’s urgency.
Bruce chuckled quietly.
Sophie watched the two with clear amusement as she slipped on her coat.
“Your sister might explode if we delay any longer,” she said softly.
Lucy laughed lightly.
“That girl has been talking about this all afternoon.”
“I’m excited to see brother fight. My classmates that have watched it says that my big brother is awesome,” Lily said with pride.
“Really?” Lucy asked even though she was excited too.
Sophie smiled at this interaction.
They stepped back outside together.
The cool evening air brushed across their faces again as Lily hurried down the small path toward the front gate, Ash darting excitedly around her head in playful circles.
Bruce closed the door behind them, locking it before stepping away from the house.
The quiet street was calm beneath the glow of distant lanterns.
For a moment they all stood there together.
Then Sophie leaned slightly closer to Bruce, her lips brushing lightly near his ear as she whispered.
“Do you want to use Ash?”
Bruce glanced toward the dragon cub, who was currently flying small figure eights around Lily’s head while chirping enthusiastically.
A faint smile tugged at his lips.
“Though Ash’s gigantic dragon form could easily carry all of us and still have plenty of space left,” he replied quietly, “it wouldn’t be a comfortable ride.”
He paused briefly.
“And I don’t want to draw too much attention.”
His gaze shifted briefly toward Lucy and Lily.
“I want us to do this as a normal family.”
Sophie’s eyes softened slightly.
Then she smiled.
“It’s a good thing I came prepared.”
Bruce raised an eyebrow.
Sophie casually lifted a hand and waved toward the road.
A moment later.
A mana taxi mobile smoothly glided down the street and stopped beside them.
Its sleek metallic frame hovered a few inches above the ground, faint blue mana circuits glowing gently along its sides. The vehicle hummed quietly with contained magical energy, its polished surface reflecting the lantern lights.
Lily gasped excitedly.
“A mana taxi. Thank god we didn’t have to wait for long!”
Before anyone could say anything.
She had already rushed forward and climbed inside.
“Lets go!”
Ash chirped loudly and darted in after her, landing on the seat beside her before immediately climbing onto the dashboard to stare curiously at the glowing control panels. The driver could only stare at the dragon cub with a hint of awkwardness.
Sophie laughed softly as she opened the rear door.
“Careful Ash, don’t start driving it.”
Lucy followed with a warm smile, settling comfortably into the seat beside Lily.
Bruce stepped in last.
The interior of the mana mobile was surprisingly spacious, the seats cushioned and arranged in a wide arc that easily accommodated all of them. Soft blue lights glowed along the interior panels, giving the cabin a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
Ash fluttered excitedly between Bruce and Lily before finally settling onto Bruce’s shoulder again.
Its tail wagged happily.
Lily bounced slightly in her seat, barely able to contain herself.
“I can’t believe we’re finally going to see it!”
Lucy chuckled quietly.
“You’ve been counting down the hours.”
“Of course I have!”
Lily turned to Bruce with sparkling eyes.
“Do you know how many people on V-Net have been talking about the Adventurer Trial movie? It’s everywhere!”
She leaned closer conspiratorially.
“They say the battles look even cooler on the giant screen.”
Ash chirped loudly as if agreeing.
Bruce leaned back comfortably in his seat.
Sophie settled beside him.
The mana taxi hummed softly as it began gliding forward down the quiet street, lifting smoothly into motion.
Outside, the snow-dusted city passed by beneath the glow of lantern lights.
Inside the vehicle. The atmosphere was warm. Bright.
Filled with the quiet happiness of a family heading out together.
Bruce couldn’t help but smile, it’s been long since he felt this heartwarming feeling..
