Chapter 336: Lily’s Big Night
Meanwhile, Inside the vehicle, the atmosphere was warm. Bright. Filled with the quiet happiness of a family heading out together.
The mana mobile glided smoothly along the streets, its soft hum blending with the gentle whisper of cool wind outside. Through the wide glass panels, the city passed by in shifting ribbons of lantern light and shadow.
Everywhere looked lively. The occasional carriage or mana vehicle drifted by in the opposite direction, their lights glowing faintly in the cool night as they passed.
Lily had already pressed her face against the window.
Her breath fogged the glass slightly as she stared out with wide eyes.
“There are so many people tonight…”
Bruce followed her gaze.
Even at this late hour, the city was far more lively than usual. Groups of people moved along the streets, bundled in coats and scarves, many of them heading in the same direction as their vehicle.
Sophie noticed it too.
“Looks like everyone had the same idea,” she said softly.
Lucy smiled faintly. “The Thorne family knows how to attract attention.”
Clearly, despite her own huge success in advertising, Lucy could see that Thorne operated on an entirely different level.
There were multiple theatres built for this event, and Lucy knew that just like this place, each of them would be flooded with people. She couldn’t help but admire Thorne’s ability to promote their products so effortlessly. It was almost as if they had the entire public in the palm of their hands.
’When will I reach such a level?’
The thought surfaced quietly in her mind.
She sighed softly and shook her head, pushing the thought away. Now was not the time to dwell on such things.
Besides, her own ventures had been progressing more smoothly than she had ever imagined.
The Ackerman Company had risen from a nearly dying business to a powerful inter-kingdom enterprise almost overnight.
Their reputation had grown so strong that people across Valkrin no longer doubted their ability to safely travel between kingdoms. The company now boasted a perfect success rate in inter-kingdom transportation, one hundred percent.
As for beast rentals for dungeon expeditions and other operations, the success rate wasn’t quite perfect.
But it was still extremely high.
And the only reason the number wasn’t flawless was because certain clients occasionally attempted to use underhanded methods to seize control of the rented beasts.
Arrays.
Reinforced cages.
Specialized metal restraints.
Even attempts to tamper with the beasts themselves.
Yet no matter what they tried, it was practically impossible to trap or control the SS-ranked Shadow Wolves.
Every time someone attempted such tricks, the wolves simply abandoned them and returned directly to the Ackerman Grounds.
The profits Lucy earned from the business were immense. It was to be expected since she suffered little to no losses and expenses from each deal.
Lucy let out another quiet sigh.
Despite trying not to think about business tonight, her thoughts had wandered there again.
Meanwhile, the mana mobile passed a large intersection, and the reason for the crowds quickly became clear.
Bright floating projections hung above several buildings ahead, massive illusion screens created through mana-holographic constructs. They displayed moving images of adventurers battling monsters, blades flashing beneath dramatic lighting, spells erupting into brilliant storms of magic.
And at the center of one projection, Bruce.
His figure appeared amidst thunderous visual effects, surrounded by bursts of magic and sweeping camera angles.
Large glowing letters floated beneath the images.
ADVENTURER TRIAL — THEATER VERSION
Lily gasped. “They even made advertisements! Big brother, look, it’s you!”
Ash chirped excitedly and flapped its wings as it hopped onto the seat beside the window, trying to peer outside as well.
Bruce watched the projection quietly.
The footage had clearly been edited for spectacle, slow-motion strikes, dramatic angles, and explosive magical effects that made the battles appear far more cinematic than they had actually been.
Someone clearly understood entertainment.
Sophie leaned slightly closer to him.
“They didn’t waste time.”
Bruce nodded.
“Thorne moves fast.”
Though it felt like a long time had passed since the trial, in reality it hadn’t been very long at all.
Meanwhile, the vehicle continued forward, weaving gently through the growing flow of traffic. More mana mobiles joined the roads ahead, their glowing undercarriages casting soft hues of blue and silver across the pavement.
Some pedestrians glanced curiously at their vehicle as it passed.
Not because of the car.
But because of who was inside.
A few people seemed to recognize Bruce through the window. Their eyes widened slightly before they began whispering among themselves.
Bruce noticed.
But he said nothing.
Lucy noticed too.
She simply smiled quietly.
Lily, meanwhile, remained blissfully unaware of the attention.
She had turned toward Ash now, holding up her bracelet and showing the dragon cub a page of V-Net comments scrolling rapidly across the screen.
“Look!” she said excitedly. “People are saying the final trial battle is the best part!”
Ash tilted its head as if trying to understand the glowing screen.
Then it chirped approvingly anyway.
The mana mobile slowed slightly as it turned onto a broader avenue.
The buildings here were larger.
Brighter.
And far more crowded.
Ahead, the theater district had come alive.
Rows of tall structures lined the street, each adorned with glowing banners and floating mana displays that projected animated scenes high into the night air. Long lines of people stretched along the sidewalks, laughter and conversation filling the winter evening.
The main theater building stood at the center of it all.
It was massive.
Several stories tall, its wide façade covered in luminous illusion panels displaying rotating scenes from various Adventurer Trial battles. Firestorms erupted across one panel while another showed a warrior leaping through the air in slow motion.
Above the entrance, enormous glowing letters hovered proudly.
VELMORA GRAND THEATER
Lily nearly bounced out of her seat.
“We’re here!”
The driver chuckled softly from the front seat.
“We’re just about to reach the drop point.”
The mana mobile slowed further, gliding toward a designated arrival lane where several other vehicles were already stopping to let passengers out.
The driver turned his head slightly.
“I’ll pull in right here.”
