Sumatra's Greatest Fan - Chapter 154: Top Target

Chapter 154: Top Target
Blades of energy in the shape of a crescent moon flashed towards his neck, intending to kill him post haste.
The moment Torq’s eyes shot open, he witnessed the attack, not having any capability to react, for he was currently a baby.
A literal baby born mere hours earlier!
Gua!
Echoed his voice as the attackers, simultaneously, got crushed by a group of people.
“My son!” Resounded the voice of a concerned mother who approached Torq and picked him up, hurriedly inspecting his condition before signing in relief, “He isn’t hurt.”
“Good!” Replied a gruff man who approached one of the dead attackers and crushed the latter’s head, “The Varahan Empire has grown desperate.”
“They’re afraid of my grandson’s potential and wish to kill him when he’s just a bud.” The more he spoke, the more the gruff man seemed to seethe in anger, until a minute later when he roared, “Who’s there?”
“Your orders, father?” Two men kneeled at the room’s entrance respectfully.
“Figure out which City in the Varahan Empire these assassins grew up in.” The gruff man commanded, “I want it up in flames before dawn!”
“Yes, it’ll be done!” Followed by a nod, the two men disappeared into the night.
“MyuraBuntara, my daughter.” The gruff voice consoled the crying mother, “I’ll increase security around the premises. Why don’t you remain next to your son tonight?”
“He’s the sole success of our plan and will one day lead our entire branch to untold heights.”
“I will, father.” MyuraBuntara was a Gold Grade existence with 6-Life Stage cultivation. She was a powerhouse belonging to the rapidly expanding Clan touted to be the strongest on Sumatra.
The Wean Clan!
Every single Wean Clansman was a Gold Grade existence, capable of reaching the peak of the Body Stage in a mere eight years. Even the least talented take about a decade to mature.
And in their quest to grow even more powerful, the Wean Clan added in four branches, each as special as the other.
The Main Family controlled the four Branch Families, for leading the Main Family were Boar Kings, existences at the peak of the Gold Grade. And they even had a small possibility of entering the Mystic Grade to become the Empyrean Boar King.
Hence, the Empyrean Boar race formed the Main Family of the Wean Clan, while its sister races formed the Branch Families.
MyuraBuntara’s son was the sole inheritor of one of these Branch Families, the strongest Branch Family in fact. And hence, the moment he was born, he was a target of the Wean Clan’s enemy.
The Varahan Empire!
In its inception, the Wean Clan and the Varahan Empire were one entity. The Wean Clan formed the upper echelon of the Varahan Empire, serving as City Lords and other administrative heads of the Empire. They had Gold Grade strength.
The Free Humans served under the Wean Clansmen, and uniformly, they had Silver Grade strength. Their strength was entirely reliant on the Wean Clansmen, for the mineral they forged their Silver Grade Humans Avatars with, called Vara, came from Wean Clansmen.
They had a tight relationship, creating a beneficial cycle that rocketed their growth. In a mere century, they were on track to eclipse the Brimgan Empire. But then, the Mystic Seven interfered to prevent their unstoppable growth.
A Civil War occurred as the Free Humans rebelled against the Wean Clansmen, splitting the two sides that to this date, could never reconcile.
There was a moment of peace during the war, when the Empyrean Snappers rampaged around the Varahan Empire’s border. Both sides joined hands against the external threat.
But immediately after the threat was dealt with, they returned to their infighting.
’And I am someone that can turn the tides of this war easily.’ Torq thought as he gathered his bearings and accustomed to his new life.
Though he was a mere baby, he still had the means of conscious thought, for that was how Wean Clansmen were born. The Main Family could grow at tremendous speeds, while the Branch Families, though slower in comparison, still grew at rocket speeds in contrast to Gold Grade Pranic Beasts and free Humans.
“My baby…!” MyuraBuntara sat next to Torq and dangled her finger before the latter’s face, smiling upon seeing her son try to grab her finger, “Your father will be overjoyed to hear news of your successful birth.”
“He’ll rush here bearing gifts the moment he hears about you.” She smiled widely the moment Torq grabbed her index finger and made a gleeful sound, “AWW!”
Gua!
MyuraBuntara suddenly noticed her son staring at the ceiling, with a somewhat afraid expression. Before she could even process it, her body moved instinctively.
Boom!
Fierce windblades burst out of her and stabbed in the direction of the ceiling, at an empty spot. However, blood spurted out in response, ’There was another one hiding here?’
“Guards!” She roared upon seeing the assassin swiftly move to evade her, land on the floor, and leap back, upon which his figure vanished from her view.
Without hesitation, she returned to stand next to Torq and split her Life Stage stack, surrounding Torq from all sides, ’His stealth is insane!’
There were only a few droplets of the assassin’s blood dropping from the ceiling. The assassin was no longer visible. Even as the guards rushed inside, nothing changed.
“Where’s the assassin?” The gruff man rushed inside with imposing momentum, quickly eyed Torq and heaved a momentary sigh in relief upon seeing the baby was fine.
“He vanished right before my senses!” MyuraBuntara cursed, “I’m afraid the assassin is still hiding somewhere around here!”
’Right! My son was able to sense the assassin!’ She hurriedly observed her baby’s face, trying to find any clues from the latter’s expression, ’There’s no fear in his face. That means the assassin is at least not within this room at the moment.’
Her split bodies vanished and returned to their stack as she touched them one after another. And then, she held Torq in her arms and took a seat on the bed, faintly gasping for breath. “Father, please guard me, not from the outside.”
She pointed at the chair right next to her bed, “Can’t you stay next to me?”
“…Alright,” The gruff man only considered for a moment before he slumped on the chair and barked an order, “Shift my work table here.”
“Yes,” One of the guards took charge and exited the room. Soon, there was some bustle in the place as the guards moved the gruff man’s work table into MyuraBuntara’s room.
Her room was situated on the third floor carved into the stem of a 400-metre tall tree. Dozens of floors stretched along the tree where countless Wean Clansmen lived.
Currently camouflaged within the tree’s foliage, standing upon a leaf while observing the activity below was the assassin. ’Even MyuraBuntara, with her 6-Life Stage cultivation, failed to sense me. But that newborn did.’
A faint, hazy silhouette of a man floated like a cloud next to his shoulder as the assassin muttered, “Please grant me strength, Your Majesty.”
“So that I can get rid of this threat before it matures any further.”
