Sumatra's Greatest Fan - Chapter 168: Core Fertility

Chapter 168: Core Fertility
“Since we have a newcomer, let us introduce ourselves.” The woman stood on the dais and began speaking, “I am Whoaja, The Lecture Administrator for the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Courses of the topic related to Pranic Beast Registry.”
Yawn!
The two Wean Clansmen in the lecture hall merely yawned in response and didn’t bother responding to the Lecture Administrator. It was apparent they didn’t put respect upon her name and had merely joined this class to slack off.
Whoaja didn’t seem to mind them, clearly used to the treatment. Sporting a bright expression, she eyed Torq, intending for the latter to make an introduction.
“I am Garabuntara,” Torq introduced himself, “First of the Spectral Boar Branch.”
“Oh, we have a celebrity among ourselves.” Whoaja exclaimed in response. The two Wean Clansmen did seem to have woken up from hearing his name. But after giving him a few glances, they returned to slacking off.
’They must be rich bastards.’ Torq observed the clothes of the two slackers in the lecture hall, ’Must be why they don’t bother learning anything.’
’There are always some of them everywhere.’ He didn’t mind them much, for things worked to his favour if there weren’t any distractions to his learning experiences. Besides, if one were to merely talk about wealth, he was probably the richest in the class.
His grandfather owned a Mud Viper Nest, which did generate plenty of revenue. After all, other than using the Mud Vipers for their Nature, their toxins had plenty of beneficial properties, one of which was being able to refine medicines.
These medicines were their primary source of revenue. None of the medicines were on the level refined by the Cooter Clan, but since the Cooter Clan seldom sold to other parties, especially to the Wean Clan that was situated exceedingly far away, their medicines reached sky high prices if they arrived at the Wean Clan.
Instead, the medicines refined by Torq’s family, though lower in quality, were significantly cheaper, and hence were more sought after.
Just the allowance he got was more than the monthly income of many families part of the Wean Clan.
“I’ll brief you in regards to the contents of this lecture.” Whoaja began her lecture, “We’ll primarily go through the birth process of various Pranic Beasts, their growth cycle, maturity attainment, habitats for egg laying, etc.”
“The Beginner Course is mostly theoretical.” She said, “In the Intermediate Course, you’ll be working on hatching the eggs of multiple Pranic Beasts.”
Upon seeing Torq eye her with interest, Whoaja spoke more enthusiastically, “In the Advanced Course, you’ll be actively working on the life cycles of multiple Pranic Beasts up to the Silver Grade.”
“That sounds exciting.” Torq quipped as the lecture began in earnest. He already had a decent grasp on various Pranic Beast races and their Natures.
Woahja’s lectures primarily explained the process involved in the mating process of various Pranic Beast races, how the environmental conditions varied the mating frequency and even the number of eggs laid in response.
’As long as I get to interact with various Pranic Beasts, I can take advantage of that to better my development.’ Torq thought, ’Moreover, I can use this as an excuse for the Pranic Beasts I’ll be modifying to turn into my Tangible Natures.’
He can always say that during one of his experiments as part of the lecture, one of the Pranic Beasts laid a new egg variant or such, which wasn’t technically impossible.
Until noon, he listened with rapt attention, actually learning various useful information. The Wean Clan was constantly raiding the territories of multiple Pranic Beast races and capturing them for consumption.
Those deemed useful will be placed in Nests to make more of their kind. As for the rest, either they’ll be chased from their original territory to make room for the Wean Clan’s expansion, or in situations where they resist too much, they’ll get wiped out.
“Every Pranic Beast has its usefulness for the development of Sumatra.” Whoaja said, “And the purpose of this course is to understand the reason behind their importance.”
With that, she concluded the lecture, feeling a bit tired, for this was the first time in years that she had spoken so much in a stretch.
Upon the lecture’s end, she noticed the two Wean Clansmen at the back of the class had already left at some point in time. There was only Torq seated at the frontmost seat, attentively taking notes. ’He’s jotting down things manually?’
Usually, everyone just recorded all information in an Information Slip, for it was convenient. This was the first time she had seen someone manually jot down the details, “Why?”
“Isn’t it more convenient to use an Information Slip?” She approached Torq, stood right before him, and expressed her confusion.
“This helps better with memory retention, since If i’ve written something, I have the memory to use as a trigger to recall the respective information.” Torq explained, “And I like having a physical copy. It helps me truly appreciate my hard work.”
“That’s true,” Whoaja nodded, feeling a flutter for she had a similar viewpoint. Then, upon hesitation for a second, she asked, “Are you hungry?”
“Oh, it is time to have lunch.” Torq began to wrap up his notes.
“I know of a great place,” Whoaja said in a hurry, “The food there tastes better than our cafeteria.”
“There’s a place like that at the academy?” Torq raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, not many know about it.” Whoaja said, feeling a spring to her legs upon seeing Torq accept her offer.
The duo walked out of the lecture hall, meandered through a series of lecture halls, and then came across the staff quarters. Soon, they entered one of the rooms there, promptly upon which, Whoaja rushed into the kitchen.
’That great place is…her home?’ He didn’t complain and made himself comfortable in the living room. There were all sorts of scrolls strewn about, forming multiple piles.
Torq browsed through them, until a scroll related to the Nirclick Race caught his eyes. He picked it up and was surprised by the contents, ’The Nirclick Race cannot mate in the traditional sense. However, they can rely on their Cores to create a progeny.’
’Since they can transform into all sorts of objects, and their mutant counterpart, the Narlakk, can actually obtain the physical characteristics of other Races, it is theoretically possible to use their Core to supplement the births of other Pranic Beasts, especially those with low fertility.’ He was stunned by the contents, since there was a series of concrete data related to it.
Slowly, as he browsed through the contents, Torq almost dropped it in shock, for there was a detailed section related to increasing the fertility of the Deities. ’What the fuck…forget the Empyrean Snappers, the Empyrean Tusks have basically gone extinct. So, it’s impossible to get such data, unless…’
“Did that catch your interest?” Came a voice from the kitchen as Whoaja peered out with a pleasant smile, unaware of the fact that Torq had broken out in cold sweat, “My Lord has granted me plenty of funds to research that topic.”
“Your Lord?” Torq acted like he wasn’t sure, when in reality, he already had an inkling.
“Your Ancestor, of course.” Whoaja smiled, “I only exist due to his grace.”
