Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts - Chapter 1550: Nathan Reckmoon

Chapter 1550: Nathan Reckmoon
Evelyn and Luna couldn’t imagine the world Nathan lived in. It was a world so magical without any magical energy.
It was a world beyond their comprehension. In that world, even a world class summoner might not be so special.
Nathan closed his eyes. “Yet, thinking about that world, I don’t know whether I should say it’s great or not.”
“Why? If you can be connected to the person on another continent with just a press of a button, shouldn’t it be a great world?” Luna asked.
Nathan shook his head. “No. When connectivity is reaching its peak, people are gradually losing connection to the real world… to the people around them. They don’t talk to the people around them. Families end up breaking up due to the lack of communication.
“With a weapon so powerful, people are living in a constant war, keeping them awake at night because there might be one weapon that will come and decimate them when they fall asleep.
“Even when they can harness the world in a way that might look foreign to this world, the world is heading to its own destruction.
“They destroy the forest, causing the temperature in the world to increase. The ice that keeps the planet cool starts to melt. The sea level is rising. Cities or countries start to get submerged under water.
“The things we eat start to become more and more nothing like their original form. The chicken you eat is nothing but an alchemy, the water you drink possesses a poison that can gradually kill you, a never-ending war for the sake of your leader, who will think nothing of you when you die…”
Nathan shook his head helplessly. “Do you think it’s really a great world?”
Luna and Evelyn couldn’t reply.
This was indeed more terrifying than they had originally thought. Despite being so magical, the world was heading towards its own destruction.
“So, if you ask me whether I like this world or my world better? Then I like this world.”
Luna couldn’t help but ask, “So, the things you have invented here…”
“Yeah. I’m not a great inventor. I’m just bringing things that originally exist in my world and adjusting them to this world. The printing machine and the magic gun… Those two are things I’ve brought to this world.
“If it’s not necessary, I don’t want to bring items from my world. I don’t really understand how they work most of the time. Well, I’m also afraid that this invention will end up accelerating this world’s impending doom.
“It might not be in my hand, but it will eventually destroy itself.
“That’s all about me, Nathan Reckmoon. I am no one special. I am just a person who managed to escape from his parents twice. I’m nothing like you think I am.”
Luna didn’t know how to take this. Her answer was still the same. She didn’t hate him or feel deceived.
It didn’t matter if he came from another world or not. The person standing in front of her from the start was Nathan Reckmoon. That was all she cared about.
“I just have a question. What was your age?” Luna asked.
“I don’t know the exact reason, but apparently, we are of the same age. If I have to give a reason, the soul that can possess his body might have to be as similar as possible.
“I came into this world when I was summoned during the awakening ceremony. I possessed this body and also awakened at that time and summoned Fenrir. The rest… you could probably ask around and get the story from them.”
Evelyn stood up, her face darkening. She walked to Nathan and raised her hand as if she were about to slap him.
Nathan just closed his eyes. He had expected much worse than a slap, so this was nothing to him.
Yet, what came to him was not a slap. It was a hug.
Evelyn just hugged him while whispering, her voice filled with sadness. “It must have been hard for you. Arriving in this world without knowing anyone. You have to keep pushing forward without knowing what could have happened to you.
“You must be scared.” Evelyn bit her lip. “I noticed the darkness in your heart from the beginning, but I never thought it would be this deep.
“I was too conceited to think that I was the one suffering, not realizing that you had been suffering as well.
“You helped me, but I never helped you. I looked away the other way around, making it hard for you.
“Maybe, if I could understand you a bit more, if I could be more proactive, you could trust me enough to share your pain.
“I’m sorry that I failed you. I’m sorry that I let an outsider reveal your secret.
“You… have worked hard, Nathan.” Evelyn hugged him even tighter. “It’s all right now. You can trust me. I will never leave you alone anymore.
“You at least have me to share your burden. Even if the entire world becomes your enemy, I will always stay by your side.”
Nathan bit his lip. It was indeed hard. He complained, but he never stopped moving forward. Life had to continue. Even if he had to do it alone, he would do it.
He was afraid that when this secret of his was exposed, he would lose everything he had built so far. He couldn’t imagine the pain of losing Selena and the others.
But he might have been wrong. He might give them less credit than what they were truly capable of.
It might be good for him to finally come clean. Rather than being buried by guilt that would haunt him for the rest of his life, it would be better to show them the truth.
“You can rely on us.” Luna also approached him. “Sometimes, the burden feels so heavy that you don’t even realize the answer you’re looking for is right before your eyes. If it’s too hard for you, we are here to give you a push on the back. You’ve… worked hard.”
Nathan bit his lip. He didn’t want to cry, but he couldn’t hold back his tears anymore.
It might be time for him to let everything go.
He is not Nathan. He is Nathan Reckmoon.
