Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts - Chapter 1564: Goodbye

Chapter 1564: Goodbye
Elysion looked at the empty hall before closing his eyes. The scene before him was still vivid in his mind.
Nathan was standing on top of a cliff, letting the wind brush his skin as if that was the only thing that made him think he was still alive.
Nathan turned around. While keeping his hair fixed from the wind, he said, “Teacher. I don’t know how many lives I have actually gone without calling you.”
“What are you talking about?” Elysion was baffled. Nathan had turned back time again and again, but this was Elysion’s first life. Or at least, that was what Elysion knew.
Nathan’s face was calm, but Elysion could see the exhaustion that was buried underneath his eyes.
Coupled with that statement, he realized what Nathan had gone through.
“I’m very thankful to you, Teacher. Without you, I wouldn’t be able to stand here right now.
“That is why I am ashamed to say that this will be my goodbye.”
“Nathan…” Elysion wanted to stop him, but his smile made him cease that action. It was a very complicated smile.
It was as if he had undergone millions of battles, and he wanted to retire.
“Shame, sadness, or even guilt… When I thought about it, I certainly had those feelings. But for some reason, it also made me happy.”
Nathan looked at the green scenery below the cliff. “I have been so focused on my own ordeal that I have forgotten that the world used to be so beautiful…”
Elysion felt as if an invisible hand were clutching his heart. He wanted to know exactly what was going on, not just to understand the gist of the situation.
“Nathan. What are you talking about? If you have a problem, please tell your teacher. I’m definitely going to give you a solution. I promise.” Elysion tried to persuade Nathan, but to no avail.
“I’m sorry, Teacher. But I have made my decision. I’m sorry for embarrassing you. I… just can’t do it anymore.” Nathan raised his hand. “I have done everything I can, only to realize that this is an impossible challenge.
“The mistake is not anyone else’s. The mistake is in my existence. My existence has been marked, so it’s impossible for me.
“I know I shouldn’t have done this… I shouldn’t have involved an innocent person to pick up the fight. But I have no other choice.”
Nathan raised his hand, forming several contracts. “Teacher. You are strong, and I believe you are going to be much stronger. Yet, you can’t help my successor, or else those aliens will end up knowing about my successor.
“However, I shamelessly ask you three things right now. The first one is for you, Teacher. I am sorry for asking so much from you, even though I’m an embarrassment. I want you to return to the past in my stead.
“Only by doing that can I awaken your innate ability. I just want you to look over my successor.
“If he can do just fine, please watch over him. If he is struggling to adapt to this world, I hope you can ask people to help him. I can only hide your existence for one day, no more than that. After helping him, I hope you don’t meet him anymore unless the time for us to fight comes.
“Sorry for asking you such a difficult thing, but can you promise me, Teacher?”
Elysion was tearing up. He was confused about everything, but after looking at Nathan in this state, his mouth could only give one answer. “I promise.”
“Thank you. And I would like to entrust you with this. If he chooses to give you this diary, you may read it. But if he doesn’t want you to know about it, please don’t read it.”
It was a simple instruction. Elysion grabbed the book with shaking hands. It might look like just a book to anyone else, but it was like a priceless treasure to him. This book was the weight of the responsibility that his students had shouldered all this time.
“Last but not least…” Nathan paused for a moment as he looked at the horizon. “These contracts… This contract will allow me to summon Nathan from another world. I don’t know what kind of world it is, but I just hope that my successor will be according to what I’ve described in the contract.
“I hope he knows who we are fighting against because it will be unfair to him if he doesn’t know it.
“However, I know our enemy is a supreme being who even knows if someone mentions his name. That’s why I have to change everything about him. I have to hide him with a power that is more mysterious than what he possesses.
“I want everything he does to become invisible from that being. And that power will also hide everyone around him. I don’t want them to die. I don’t want him to feel the loneliness that has been plaguing me for so long.
“So, when you…” Nathan gulped down. His voice started to crack. “Can you… pass my message? Please tell him that I’m sorry. I’m sorry for dragging you into this world. I’m sorry for letting you pick up my fight. I know how shameless I am to request this, but… please… please save this world.”
Elysion’s body was shaking. “If you are going to use all those contracts, even your karma won’t be able to handle it…”
“I know. That’s why I have prepared a price. I told you earlier, right? This is a goodbye.”
“!!!” Elysion finally realized what Nathan was trying to do. “Nath—!”
“Please don’t stop me!” Nathan shouted. He looked at his teacher, almost in tears, his expression begging him not to stop him. “Teacher. I have done everything I can. I have done my best, all right? Please… I can’t do this anymore… Please… I know how selfish I am to ask this, but… please… let me… rest.”
Elysion couldn’t hold his tears anymore. He might not know everything, but he could see how hard Nathan had worked from his expression.
Elysion rushed to him and just hugged him. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for not knowing anything about you, for not being able to support you, for not being able to be with you. It must have been hard on you.”
Elysion bit his lip. He had to say one thing that he wouldn’t want to say the most in this situation.
But he had suffered more than anyone could imagine. His heart as a teacher couldn’t allow him to ask for more.
That was why Elysion had to say it, even with his voice cracking. “Thank… you… for your… hard work.”
“!!!” Nathan was surprised at first, but soon a big, relieved smile appeared on his face as tears streamed down his cheeks. At this moment, all his burdens had finally been lifted from his shoulders.
Just like the first time Elysion asked him to be his disciple, Nathan would have a big and sincere smile on his face.
The contract would be activated the moment he said those two keywords. It felt like his body had started to disappear before the contracts were active, as if it was already in his consciousness to just… fulfill his last dream… to rest. Hence, he said those two words.
“Goodbye… Teacher.”
