Chapter 811: Andre Makes a Move!!
Far away, inside the inn, Nox’s body jerked violently.
“Gah!” he growled as a sharp pain tore through his chest and head at the same time, as if something had been ripped out of his soul by force. His fingers dug into the bed, veins bulging as his teeth clenched hard enough to creak. The shattering of the bond sent violent waves of backlash through his mind, his vision blurring as he struggled to stay conscious.
Eve rushed to his side immediately. “Nox!” she shouted, grabbing his shoulders. “What happened?”
He could barely hear her. All he felt was loss. Not anger, not hatred, but a heavy, hollow pain that made his chest ache. He knew instantly what had happened.
The link was gone. Completely erased.
Serene was dead.
His breathing came out rough and uneven as he forced himself to endure the backlash. Slowly, painfully, the pain subsided enough for him to lift his head.
“She’s gone,” he muttered.
..
Meanwhile, Andre stood over Serene’s corpse in silence. He looked down at her lifeless body without regret or hesitation.
“Disgrace,” he said quietly as he turned away from her and lifted his gaze toward the distant direction where he could sense a foreign presence.
His eyes narrowed as a cruel plan took shape in his mind. “That beast tamer thinks he can crawl onto this island and leave alive,” Andre muttered to himself. “No. If he is here, then I will personally erase him.”
..
Back in the inn, Nox slowly sat up, ignoring the lingering pain.
“Who is gone?” Eve asked, her brows furrowed in confusion.
“Serene is dead. She was killed by her father,” Nox said, struggling to force the words out. Although he had disconnected astral control and did not witness everything directly, there was no doubt in his mind. He had been the only one connected to her at that moment. It could only be Andre.
“He killed his own daughter?” Eve asked, as if she needed to hear it again to believe it.
Nox exhaled heavily, still struggling to accept it himself. “He did. And he knows we are on the island. Any moment now, he will start heading here.”
Knock. Knock.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Both of them snapped their gazes toward it and immediately rose to their feet, silently activating their skills.
Nox and Eve exchanged a glance. No words were spoken. Eve gave a firm nod and approached the door slowly, a dagger quietly forming in her concealed hand.
When the door opened, it was not Andre.
Eve froze for half a second, her grip tightening before she relaxed slightly. Standing at the doorway was a familiar figure, dressed far too casually for a place like this. His expression was calm but alert, his eyes scanning the room the moment the door opened.
“Jack?” Nox called from behind, his voice low.
Jack raised both hands slowly, palms open. “Easy. It’s just me.”
Eve did not lower the dagger immediately. Her gaze swept over him once, then again, checking for any hidden pressure or trace of hostile intent. Only after confirming there was none did she step aside.
Jack walked in and carefully shut the door behind him. “You two are terrible at picking hiding spots,” he said lightly, though the tension in his shoulders betrayed him.
Nox did not respond to the humor. There were more pressing matters. “How did you find us?”
Jack scratched the back of his head. “Nothing special. I asked around. A few dock workers, one innkeeper, some soldiers who talk too much when they think they matter. You left traces. Not obvious ones, but enough.”
The room fell silent.
That single sentence told Nox everything he needed to know.
If Jack could find them this easily, then Andre could as well. No, worse. Andre would not need to ask. He would sense it.
Their location was already compromised.
Nox’s jaw tightened. “We don’t have much time,” he said flatly.
Jack frowned, finally registering the tension properly. “What happened?”
Nox hesitated for only a moment before answering. “Andre killed Serene.”
The words landed heavily.
Jack’s eyes widened, but only briefly. The shock flashed across his face before fading almost instantly, replaced by grim acceptance, as if part of him had already expected Andre to be capable of killing his own daughter.
“He did it himself?” Jack asked quietly.
Nox nodded once and briefly explained how he had tamed Serene and how Andre, unable to tolerate the disgrace, had killed her.
Jack exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair. “That bastard,” he muttered. “So it’s reached that point already.”
Before Nox could respond, the world outside erupted.
BOOOOM!
The entire inn shook violently as a deafening explosion thundered from below. The floor lurched, wooden beams groaned, and dust rained down from the ceiling. Eve staggered slightly, catching herself against the wall.
Nox was already moving.
He rushed to the window and threw it open without hesitation. Cold night air rushed in, carrying smoke, heat, and the stench of destruction. His heart nearly skipped a beat.
Below them, the lower floor of the inn was in ruins.
The entrance had been obliterated. Stones lay scattered like toys, flames licking broken wood as terrified screams echoed through the street. And at the center of the destruction stood a single figure.
Andre.
His presence was unmistakable.
He stood amidst the wreckage like a god of ruin, his long coat fluttering in the wind. His once multicolored eyes were now pitch black, darker than the night itself, stripped of warmth or hesitation. The pressure radiating from him warped the air, forcing everyone nearby to instinctively retreat.
Andre slowly lifted his head.
Their eyes met.
For a brief moment, the world seemed to freeze.
“So this is where you were hiding,” Andre said, his voice carrying effortlessly upward and reaching everyone in the building. “You really thought an inn would protect you?”
Nox’s fingers clenched around the window frame until the wood cracked.
Behind him, Jack stepped closer, his expression grim, while Eve remained calm, her eyes carefully measuring the layers of strength below.
Andre took a step forward, the ground fracturing beneath his foot. “Come out, beast tamer,” he called. “If not, I will tear this building down and drag you out myself.”
This was not an empty threat. He was more than capable of it. After all, he had already killed his own daughter.
Nox straightened slowly, his expression settling into a calm far more dangerous than rage. He turned to Eve and Jack.
“This was inevitable,” he said, resolve burning in his eyes. “I’ll finish him as quickly as I can. And if I can beat him… I have another way to get rid of him.”
