Chapter 812: Andres Proposal (Fixed)
Down below, the aura continued to roll off Andre in thick waves, rattling the two story tall inn, the windows opening and closing repeatedly.
The regular customers and workers were all shaking in their booths, sweating profusely as though they had been splashed with buckets of water.
“What is happening…”
“Why is the lord here.”
“Did the inn offend him somehow.”
Voices rang out from different rooms as they all glanced out through their windows at the man who stood doing nothing, yet released such crushing pressure that many had already fainted.
On the ground floor, the inn receptionist, who was also the owner, trembled as well, struggling to maintain his composure. He knew that even he would not be able to stop Andre if the man decided to tear the place to the ground.
He gritted his teeth and thought of the two foreigners, and his fear morphed into intense anger, his face reddening like a tomato.
“Those foreigners… it is definitely them he is referring to!” he spat.
“Sir, what should we do? Should we pull them out?” the innkeeper’s right hand maid asked in a quiet voice that could easily pass as a whisper.
The innkeeper paced back and forth. “I definitely will not risk my business for those foreigners.”
He suddenly paused, then spoke with conviction. “Hold on. I will get them out of the inn myself.”
As he said this, he hurried up the stairs under the anxious gazes of the servants. The slightly huge man hurried through the staircase, and only seconds later, he arrived at the door.
BANG! BANG!
The innkeeper slammed his fist hard against the door, so hard that debris fell from the wooden frame.
“Hey, you two, get out of that room now!” he shouted. “If you do not, I will be forced to kick you out myself!”
Though he said this, it was nothing more than a bluff. Even without any prior clash, the subtle aura surrounding those two told the innkeeper that they were no ordinary people.
What further proved this was the fact that the lord of the island himself was here, specifically looking for them.
“Hey, open the door already!” The innkeeper’s loud voice echoed across the hallway, causing doors to open as others peeked out, fear clearly written on their faces.
Meanwhile, outside, Andre’s patience was wearing thin, his expression slowly cracking with each passing second.
Out of fear, some of the initial occupants of the inn began to flee one after another, unwilling to be caught in the chaos that was about to unfold.
“It seems I will have to tear down the building to get you out,” Andre’s voice carried far and wide, even though he was not shouting.
At those words, the innkeeper panicked even more, slamming even harder on the door while shouting at the top of his lungs.
Fortunately for him, at that very moment, the door flung open. Inside stood only two people. Jack and Eve.
The innkeeper’s gaze quickly snapped to the window, which was being blown open and shut by the wind. Moving closer, he glanced down and saw him.
The youth with black eyes and dark hair streaked with strands of red stood just a few meters away from Andre, his expression calm despite the crushing pressure being exerted on him.
For several tense moments, silence filled the air as the two locked eyes, their auras clashing as neither was willing to back down.
The atmosphere grew extremely heavy, as though the very air itself had thickened, making it hard to breathe.
“Beast tamer,” Andre smiled.
Nox did not reply, simply holding his ground. The pressure pouring off Andre washed over him in heavy waves, pressing against his skin, his bones, even his breath. The street beneath his feet creaked, tiny cracks spreading outward like spiderwebs.
“It has been a long time since I came across one of you,” Andre said, the smile still present.
One of you. That particular phrase struck Nox, but he pushed the thought aside. Now was not the time to dwell on it.
“You killed her,” Nox said, his voice completely emotionless.
Andre’s smile did not fade. If anything, it deepened. “She made her choice. Regardless of my blood, anyone not corrupted by the beast tamer is something I cannot overlook so easily.”
“Now quit talking about my dead daughter,” Andre said suddenly. “I have a proposal for you. If you accept it, I promise your death will be swift and painless.”
Nox’s eyes flashed sharply at those words, but he did not comment. Instead, he waited, prepared to hear the proposal.
“I am all ears,” Nox said calmly.
“It is rather simple,” Andre replied. “I know there are more of you. Lead me to the others, and I promise your death will be swift. As for your family members, as long as they are not beast tamers, nothing will happen to them.”
When the suggestion was made, both Eve and Jack’s expressions darkened.
“He would not possibly accept it, it would h—”
Even before Jack could finish, Nox spoke.
“I accept.”
“…”
“…”
To Jack and Eve’s shock, Nox actually accepted the request. It even stunned Andre, who had not expected such an immediate agreement. The calmness in Nox’s voice made it seem as though he had been waiting for this exact proposal.
Jack’s body reacted before his mind caught up. He stepped forward, reaching as if to grab Nox by the shoulder and pull him back. Eve caught him first, gripping his wrist firmly. She shook her head without even looking at him, as though speaking to someone she understood well enough to predict.
“Do not,” Eve said quietly, her voice barely carrying over the noise outside. Though she was not panicking, her eyes were slightly narrowed. “Nox always knows what he is doing. If he is agreeing, then he already decided the next steps before Andre even finished speaking.”
Jack wanted to argue. Accepting a request like that felt like kneeling, and kneeling before someone like Andre was no different from accepting death. Yet the words stuck in his throat when he saw Eve’s expression.
The anxiety remained heavy in his chest as he stared at Nox’s back and thought,
’What are you planning in your head, you idiot.’
