- Chapter 813 813: Nox’s Master Plan

Outside, Andre’s eyes stayed fixed on Nox, as if he were trying to see through him, and the crowd around the inn looked like a collection of statues that had forgotten how to breathe properly. Everyone could feel that something was about to happen, and nobody wanted to be the first person to move.
The innkeeper was still somewhere inside the building, shaking with anger and fear, but even he had gone quiet for a moment. When two strong people started speaking calmly, it meant the violence was about to become organised, and organised violence was always worse than random destruction.
Nox raised his chin slightly, keeping his posture relaxed, then spoke in a voice that was clear enough for Andre to hear but not dramatic enough to invite panic from the onlookers.
“You want me to lead you to the others,” he said, repeating Andre’s demand as if confirming the terms of a deal. Then he added one more sentence that made several people nearby stiffen. “For security reasons, I tucked them away in a location that only I know, because even among beast tamers there are things you don’t expose carelessly, especially when your enemies are the ones hunting you.”
Andre’s eyes narrowed instantly, because that sentence sounded too prepared, like a statement that had been rehearsed for a moment just like this.
“A location only you know,” Andre repeated. The way he said it made it sound less like a question and more like he was weighing whether to break Nox’s limbs and drag the answer out of him instead of following politely. His gaze then shifted briefly to the inn and the frightened people, as if reminding everyone that he could flatten the entire area and still consider it a small inconvenience.
“You expect me to believe you set up a hideout on my island without my knowledge,” Andre continued, his voice carrying a dangerous calm that sounded reasonable while promising cruelty.
“You don’t have to believe me,” Nox replied, and the lack of fear in his tone irritated Andre more than insults ever could. “You only have to decide whether you want to waste time here killing civilians and breaking buildings, or whether you want to get what you asked for.”
Andre stared at him for a long moment, suspicion still obvious. Beneath that suspicion, however, was a practical thought that Nox could almost hear. Andre was powerful enough that a trap made by weak beast tamers who had not fully grasped their powers would not be enough to stop him, and Andre knew it.
The lord of Imperia took one step closer, and the ground shifted again as dust rose around his feet.
“If you are lying,” Andre said slowly, “I will make you regret ever learning how to speak.”
Nox nodded faintly, as if accepting the warning. Then, under the watchful gaze of everyone present, he reached into his coat and brought out an object that looked completely out of place in the current situation.
It was a key, but not a common one. It was longer, heavier, and its surface carried a dull glow, like old metal that had absorbed light instead of reflecting it. Andre stared at it with visible confusion, because it did not look like a treasure, and it did not look like something a random foreigner should possess.
Eve’s eyes widened for the first time in a way that was hard to miss, yet she still did not speak, as if she understood what the key was and also understood that speaking about it here would be a mistake.
Jack noticed her reaction, and his heart tightened even more. If Eve was surprised by the key, then whatever Nox was about to do was not a simple trick. It was something bigger, something risky, and he could not tell whether risky meant genius or suicide.
Under the watchful gaze of everyone, Nox stepped toward the inn, moving carefully. He reached the door, turned his body slightly so Andre could see his hands clearly, then lifted the key and placed it against a point in the air, as if there were an invisible keyhole waiting for him.
For a second, nothing happened, and Andre almost looked amused.
Then Nox twisted the key, as if turning a lock, and the air cracked with a low metallic sound that did not belong to the world.
Following that sound, a door appeared.
It was not made of wood, and it was not made of stone. It looked like a solid sheet of gold shaped into a door, engraved with symbols that did not resemble any language the onlookers recognised.
The street went silent in a way that felt unnatural. Even Andre’s expression shifted, not into fear, because he did not fear easily, but into sharp alertness. Whatever this was, it was not the work of common people.
Nox stepped back half a pace from the door and looked at Andre.
“I’ll go first,” he said.
The statement was clearly meant to make the other man believe this was not an ambush that would snap shut immediately, as many had already assumed.
Andre stared at him for several tense moments, then snorted faintly and walked closer.
Nox did not say another word and stepped through, as if walking into another room.
Andre followed without hesitation. His confidence was not an act, and letting Nox disappear alone would be the same as letting him escape. Andre had not come here to allow that.
What he did not know was that as Nox stepped through the door, a faint smirk crossed his face.
…
