- Chapter 819 819: Proceeding to the Next Floor

Varak stayed in his seat. He set the goblet down slowly. His expression was still calm.
“You think this ends with me dead? The other floors will—”
Emerald cut him off, saying, “They will hear soon enough, but for now worry about yourself..”
The last captain tried to charge Nox. However, Nox moved faster than the eye could follow.
Divine Velocity kicked in as his body blurred, the air cracking around him. He appeared behind the captain and drove an elbow into the back of the demon’s neck.
Crack! Crack!
Bone snapped and the captain dropped dead instantly, unable to withstand Nox’s powerful strike. After leveling up multiple times it was safe to say his physical strength now far surpassed most experts at level 100.
Varak stood up now, his expression darkening when he saw how the human effortlessly dealt with the demon captain.
The demon lord Varak was taller than Nox by a head, broader too.
“Wait. We can talk terms. You want the raid to sto—”
“No,” Nox replied, not even allowing the demon lord to finish his sentence.
“Bastard, then die!” Varak snarled and swung a massive fist wrapped in black chains.
Nox dodged left, Divine Velocity still active, his entire body radiating with golden energy. He moved in close and punched once into Varak’s stomach.
The demon lord doubled over. Nox grabbed his horn and slammed his head down onto the table.
Bang!
Varak roared and swung again, chains whipping through the air. Nox let one chain graze his arm, drawing blood, then stepped inside the reach. He hit Varak three times. Ribs, throat, jaw. Each hit landed with elemental force behind it, fire and lightning twisting around his fists.
Varak staggered back, coughing black blood.
“You cannot kill me and walk away. The troops outside will tear you apart.”
Emerald stepped forward. She pulled one of her curved blades.
“They will not.”
Varak tried to stand straight. “Succubus, you think they follow you after this?”
Emerald smiled, fangs showing. “They do not have any choice, do they?”
She moved fast. One blade went under Varak’s arm, the other across his throat. Blood sprayed across the table. Varak grabbed at the wound, eyes wide. He tried to speak but only gurgled. Then he fell forward onto the maps, his body twitching once before going still.
Emerald wiped her blades on his clothes and turned to Nox.
“Done.”
Outside the tower, alarms finally started ringing. Deep horns blew across the city streets. Shouts followed. Boots pounded on stone. Demons poured toward the square from every direction.
Nox walked to the balcony. Emerald joined him.
Below, hundreds of troops gathered, weapons raised, looking up at the tower. Some pointed. Others hesitated.
Nox raised one hand.
Scourge Dragons appeared on every rooftop around the square. Dozens, then hundreds. Their dark haze filled the air. They did not attack yet. They only watched but the demon troops below froze.
They saw the bodies of their captains being dragged out by more dragons and dropped at the edge of the square. They saw Varak’s corpse hanging half over the balcony railing where Emerald had pushed it.
One of the captains from the lower ranks stepped forward. He looked up at Nox and Emerald.
“The lord is dead,” he called. His voice carried across the square. “We see it.”
Emerald leaned on the railing. “Then you know what happens next. Swear to me, or die here.”
The captain looked at the dragons, then at the streets behind him where more spectral shapes moved between buildings. He lowered his weapon.
One by one the others followed.
Swords clattered on stone.
Knees hit the ground.
“We surrender,” the captain said. “Floor ninety eight is yours.”
Nox lowered his hand. The dragons stayed in place, eyes fixed on the kneeling troops. Emerald looked at him, a satisfied smile on her face.
“One floor down,” she said quietly.
Nox only nodded. He did not smile back. There was still more work to be done and he felt that he was not moving fast enough.
“We need to proceed to the next phase,” he said.
Emerald pushed herself away from the balcony railing and looked down at the kneeling demon troops one last time before turning back toward the hall.
“Yes,” she replied. “Staying here longer will only slow us down.”
Nox stepped away from the edge as well.
Behind them, the Scourge Dragons on the rooftops remained still, watching the square like silent guards. Below, the demon soldiers kept their heads lowered.
None of them dared move.
Emerald walked toward the stairway, speaking quietly as they moved.
“Varak’s death will spread quickly across the other floors. Even if the messengers try to keep it quiet, the soldiers will talk.”
“That works for us,” Nox replied calmly.
“How?” Emerald asked curiously.
“Fear spreads faster than orders,” he said. “When a floor lord dies this easily, the others start thinking about their own safety.”
Emerald gave a small nod. They reached the lower levels of the tower quickly. The bodies of the guards they had passed earlier still lay where they fell, untouched.
When they stepped out into the square again, the demon soldiers remained kneeling.
The captain who had spoken earlier raised his head slightly.
“My lord,” he said carefully.
Nox looked at him but did not answer.
The captain swallowed before continuing.
“What are your orders for the floor?”
Emerald glanced at Nox briefly.
“It is your floor now. You make the rules,” Nox said with a shrug.
Emerald coughed, not expecting to be put on the spot like that, but she quickly regained her composure.
Looking at the demon soldiers with a strict expression on her face, she spoke.
“Maintain order. Patrols leave this district. No messengers ride out of the city. Anyone trying to leave without permission dies.”
The captain nodded immediately.
“It will be done.”
Just to go further with what Emerald had said, Nox placed a few more Scourge Dragons around the area before turning to the demon succubus.
“Open the gate.”
