- Chapter 820 820: Demon Lord Krazhul

Emerald raised her hand again and the red portal opened in front of them. The surface of it moved slowly like thick liquid. She glanced at Nox with a small smile before stepping forward.
“This one goes straight to floor ninety nine,” she said.
Nox nodded once and walked through.
The space shifted around them and the next moment both of them stepped out into a wide stone courtyard.
Floor ninety nine looked very different from the one below.
The ground was black stone. Tall pillars rose everywhere, each one covered in glowing runes. The air felt heavier and colder at the same time. Several demon patrols moved between the structures while watch towers stood along the edges of the district.
Emerald slowed her steps and frowned slightly.
“This floor is already on alert,” she said.
Nox did not answer immediately. His eyes moved across the pillars and the glowing marks carved into them.
The dragons behind them suddenly flickered.
Their spectral bodies became unstable for a moment before settling again.
Nox’s expression changed slightly. “What was that?”
Emerald clicked her tongue. “That bastard Krazhul always liked strange defenses. It must be one of his toys.”
The moment Nox stepped further into the courtyard the pillars reacted. The glowing runes brightened and waves of pressure spread across the ground.
Several nearby demons turned their heads instantly.
One of them pointed.
“Intruders!”
The alarm spread across the courtyard almost immediately.
Nox’s Phantom Cloak flickered. Whatever those runes were, not even his Phantom Cloak could bypass them.
Several demons froze when they felt it.
“A human?”
Emerald sighed softly. “Well. So much for quiet entry.”
Nox raised his hand. “Dragons.”
Dozens of spectral shapes appeared around the courtyard. Their wings unfolded slowly and their heads lowered toward the demons rushing forward.
The first group of guards charged with spears raised.
They never reached him.
The dragons moved first.
Claws cut through armor. Jaws snapped shut around throats. Bodies were thrown across the stone ground as the courtyard turned into chaos.
One demon commander tried to shout an order but a dragon slammed into him from the side and crushed him against a pillar. Blood splashed across the glowing runes.
Emerald moved beside Nox as the fighting spread. Her blades flashed once and a demon lost his arm before even realizing she had moved.
Another guard tried to stab her from behind but she twisted aside and drove her blade through his chest.
“Quick work,” she said with a grin.
Nox did not respond. His attention was already on the tower rising at the center of the district when he felt a powerful aura coming from it.
“The floor lord is inside.”
Emerald followed his gaze.
A massive fortress stood ahead of them with several elite guards already forming defensive lines.
She smiled.
“Then let us not keep him waiting.”
Nox stepped forward. More dragons appeared around him, their spectral bodies spreading across the streets.
“Handle the demon guards,” he ordered.
The dragons moved immediately. The guards raised shields and tried to hold their formation.
However it lasted three seconds.
The first dragon slammed into the line and scattered the formation like paper. Another dropped from above and crushed two guards under its claws.
Several demons tried to use spells but the dragons phased through the attacks and tore them apart before they finished casting.
The street turned into a slaughter zone.
Blood ran along the cracks of the stone ground while the dragons pushed the defenders back toward the fortress gate.
Emerald walked beside Nox through the middle of the fight.
“Your army is doing most of the work,” she complained, although she loved it. It made her feel useless and it seemed as if all the work was being done by the human.
“That is the point,” Nox replied calmly. He did not care who did the most work. He just wanted to get out of this realm. Something about it made him sick.
Soon they reached the fortress entrance.
Several remaining guards tried to block the doorway but three dragons smashed through them and cleared the path.
Nox walked inside without slowing.
The interior halls were wide and filled with more defensive runes carved into the walls.
Several demons rushed forward as soon as they saw them.
“Persistent.” Emerald clicked her tongue in disgust. She dashed forward and cut one down before he even finished lifting his weapon.
Nox stepped past her and drove his fist into another demon’s chest. The impact crushed the armor inward and sent the body flying into the wall.
The fight continued through the corridors as more guards tried to stop them. Dragons pushed through the halls like a moving wave of claws and wings.
Bodies piled across the floor and blood spread across the stone tiles.
They climbed the final stairway and reached a large hall with tall black doors.
Before either of them could open it the doors slowly pushed inward.
A large demon stood inside the chamber.
Krazhul.
He was taller than Varak had been and unlike Varak’s casual clothing his body was covered in black armor filled with glowing runes.
He looked at the blood covered hallway behind them and sighed.
“You made quite a mess getting here.”
Emerald leaned against the door frame. “You should see what we did downstairs.”
Krazhul ignored her and focused on Nox.
“So you are the human everyone keeps whispering about?”
“What about that?” Nox asked, holding his gaze.
Krazhul folded his arms. “You are more impressive than I thought.”
Without saying another word Krazhul raised a hand slightly and the runes across the room lit up.
More demon guards stepped out from the shadows around the chamber.
He looked directly at Nox.
“Before we start killing each other let me offer something.”
Krazhul continued speaking when he did not get any reaction.
“Join me.”
Emerald raised an eyebrow. “Why are all of you trying to recruit him? Do not tell me you people are that scared.”
Krazhul ignored her again.
“You clearly have strength. Together we could rule the lower floors. The empire is already unstable. With your power and my command we could kill the first born and then become the new rulers.”
Emerald resisted the urge to face palm. Nox did not react, but it revealed something important. The demons were not truly united like the front they presented. Each of them was a backstabber working for their own interests.
