- Chapter 823 823: Nox Vs the First Born [1]

Nox stopped walking after leaving the chamber. The halls were quiet now. The dragons had already finished clearing the remaining guards, and the fortress had gone silent. The air inside the fortress felt cold and heavy, and the faint sound of dripping blood echoed from somewhere behind them.
Emerald walked a few steps ahead before noticing that Nox was no longer moving. She turned around and saw him standing still in the middle of the corridor.
“You’re stopping?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Nox did not answer immediately. He walked toward a wide open area near the inner courtyard and then sat down slowly on the cold black stone floor. The stone was cold enough that faint frost began to form around where he sat. The air there was quiet, and the only sound was the distant wind moving through the broken parts of the fortress and the low growls of the spectral dragons standing guard around the area.
“I need to recover my mana,” Nox said calmly. “If I am facing the First Born, I need to be in my best state.”
Emerald studied him for a moment, then nodded slightly. She leaned against one of the broken pillars nearby and crossed her arms, keeping watch while he rested. The air on this floor was colder than the lower floors, and the wind that passed through the open fortress carried a dry, cold feeling with it.
Nox closed his eyes and slowly adjusted his breathing. Then he stood up again and moved into a meditative stance. His back straightened, his shoulders relaxed, and his breathing slowed down until it became steady and controlled. When one was calm, it was easier to accumulate mana faster. The surrounding mana in the air slowly began to move toward him, flowing into his body like an invisible current.
Emerald watched quietly from the side. She could feel it clearly. The mana in the area was gathering around him faster and faster. Even the air around him began to feel slightly heavier as the energy gathered.
Time passed quietly. Krazhul’s fortress remained silent while Nox continued to recover. The dragons stood around the area like silent guards, their glowing eyes watching the surroundings. The dim light from the runes on the walls flickered slightly, casting moving shadows across the broken stone and the bodies scattered across the halls.
After some time, Nox slowly opened his eyes again. The faint glow in his eyes returned, sharper now.
“My mana is full,” he said as he stepped forward.
Emerald pushed herself off the pillar and stretched her arms slightly.
“Alright,” Emerald nodded once. She raised her hand and the red portal appeared again in front of them. The surface of the portal moved slowly like thick liquid, and a strange pressure came from the other side.
Nox took the first step forward. Emerald followed him, and both of them walked through the portal.
The space around them twisted for a moment before everything became still again.
They appeared in the middle of a massive city.
Tall buildings stood everywhere. Black towers, wide streets, large structures built from dark stone and metal. The city looked ancient and powerful at the same time. Red lights glowed from some of the buildings, and the entire place felt quiet. Too quiet. There were no crowds. No movement. Only silence and the cold air moving between the tall structures.
At the center of the city stood the tallest building of them all.
A massive dark castle.
The moment they stepped fully into the city, both Nox and Emerald suddenly felt it.
An intense gaze.
Nox slowly lifted his head and looked toward the top of the tallest building in the city. Emerald followed his gaze, and her expression changed slightly.
At the very top of the castle, a figure stood there.
The figure was tall and thin, holding a long scythe like weapon that reflected the dim red light of the city. The weapon gleamed faintly as the figure stood there without moving, looking directly at them from the top of the building.
The distance between them was very far, but the pressure from that figure felt as if he was standing right in front of them.
Emerald swallowed slightly.
“That’s the First Born,” she said quietly.
The air around them felt heavier. Even the wind seemed to slow down. The entire city felt like it was being watched.
“It looks like he was already waiting for us,” Emerald added.
Nox kept looking at the figure at the top of the castle. Then he nodded once, his eyes flashing slightly.
“In the last demon war,” he said slowly, “I lost someone important.”
Emerald did not interrupt him. She just listened.
“Lady Celine,” Nox continued. His voice remained calm, but his eyes had become colder. “She died during that war.”
The wind moved through the empty streets. The figure at the top of the castle did not move.
“The First Born wanted another war,” Nox said. “He wanted to start everything again.”
His hand slowly clenched at his side.
“That will not happen again.”
Emerald looked at him but did not speak this time. She could feel the change in the air around him. The pressure around Nox had changed. It had become colder and heavier.
After a few seconds, Nox spoke again.
“Stand by,” he said calmly. “Do not interfere in this fight.”
Emerald raised an eyebrow slightly. “You’re going to fight him alone?”
“Yes.”
She studied him for a moment, then nodded slowly. “Alright. I will not interfere.”
The wind moved through the city again. The figure at the top of the castle still stood there, the scythe in his hand reflecting the dim red light.
Nox looked at the castle one more time and then he stepped forward.
The moment he moved, the tension in the air peaked. Even the weather and atmosphere of this floor became cloudy as if it knew that a fight was about to erupt between two powerhouses.
