Chapter 2071: The current you is… running towards your own end.
“Didn’t they offer a one-on-one battle to avoid any unnecessary deaths? What could be a better solution than that?
As ’beings of light’, should you not go with that option?”
He questioned with a light smile on his face, and Ythric’s face turned solemn.
“What’s with that face? Did you truly think I would not know about Khaemorr’s offer? That was their official statement, every single being in the Universe knows about it.”
“Their statement has no value.”
Ythric shook his head.
“They are from the Darkness Faction, they have no reason to care about death and destruction. For them, the more death and destruction they cause, the better it is for them.
If such beings suddenly start talking about how they worry about death and destruction, one would be a fool to blindly believe their words.
They are planning something evil, and we, as the defenders of Light, cannot fall for their trap.”
It was a very political answer; at the very least, this answer was capable of protecting Aurendor’s reputation.
But…
“To me, it just sounds like your Lord is scared.”
Nux shrugged, his words once again triggering Vexarion.
“There is a difference between being scared and cautious.”
Ythric answered calmly.
“Cowards are cautious.”
Nux answered.
“Thoughts like,
’I shouldn’t break through, my energy might deviate and I might die.’
’I shouldn’t meet him, he might betray me.’
Or…
’I shouldn’t fight, the opponent might have set up a trap.’
Sure, to someone, all this may sound cautious, but to most, this is simply cowardly. You beings of light always talk about justice, life, and everyone’s right to live,
Yet, when you are given the opportunity to actually prevent billions of deaths, you worry about all this being a trap. It honestly confuses me.”
“There is nothing to be confused about. Even if our Lord takes the risks to protect all those lives, the beings of darkness have no reason to stick to their words. Who is going to stop them if our Lord falls for their trap and loses his life?”
Ythric countered, and Nux just shrugged at his words,
“If you are already thinking about losing when the battle hasn’t even started yet, then that is all I wish to know.”
He then heaved a big sigh and,
“Forget it, I was at fault for expecting something. I should have known better, there was a reason your Faction’s ranked at the level it is.”
“What did you say?”
Suddenly, Ythric reacted.
Ythric was much better at controlling his emotions when compared to his Lord. However, as one of the strongest Transcendents in Aurendor, even he had his pride.
Being judged by a mere mercenary in such a condescending manner— even he had reached his limit.
Nux, however, wasn’t taken aback by his reaction.
As he said, he had done his research. He knew every single thing about the people he was dealing with. He knew exactly what to say to trigger them, and knowing that it was working, he continued,
“The only significant battle you have won is against Nocthys, that too, when you took out their Sovereign in a cowardly manner. You had the support of five other Eternals, and even when you had such a big advantage, you still couldn’t complete what you started and allowed someone like Sharnoth to escape.
Someone who has now become a thorn in the eyes of Light. Her mere existence is proof that your sole victory against the Faction of Darkness was pointless. Your mistake gave birth to a new, stronger enemy.
An enemy who was once a helpless little girl, yet now stands in front of you, challenging you to a direct duel, yet you cower behind your forc—”
Bam
“I am not cowering!”
Vexarion raised his voice as he slammed his armrest, the entire thing broken into pieces because of the impact.
The Call Artifact once again hovered in the air, showing Vexarion, who now stared at Nux with unhidden anger.
Of course, Nux was unaffected. Rather, inwardly, he was smiling—this was just going exactly as he had planned.
“Vexarion Aurendor, what you say does not matter.
The entire Universe will see your actions as cowardice, and that is not even the worst part.”
Nux then paused for a moment before his smile became demonic and,
“Do you know what’s the worst part?
No one will be surprised by your cowardly decision.”
“Wha…”
Vexarion’s expression changed, and Nux continued,
“Every being in the Universe, especially those who are part of the Faction of Light, are waiting for you to show your cowardly side.
The moment you cave in, allowing Khaemorr to make their move, they will come forward. They will challenge Sharnoth in your stead with the same conditions she presented to you, defeat her, and take the glory you have been saving for yourself.
Some of the Worlds I am in contact with have already started preparing. Many have approached me, wanting me to tell them everything I know about Sharnoth. This was also the reason I came to find out about the official statement they released.”
“Lies! You are lying!”
Vexarion shouted.
“Huh? What reason do I have to lie?”
“You are on Sharnoth’s side! Do you think I do not know that!? Your people destroyed five of my subordinate worlds!”
The Herald of Justice snapped. His current appearance was truly… ugly.
And Nux,
“…huh?”
He just tilted his head in confusion.
“My people destroyed five of your subordinate worlds?”
“Do not try to lie your way through it, Mercenary. Your sigil was used.”
Vexarion spoke in an authoritative tone, but Nux just shook his head,
“That is just a lie.
My people did not destroy five, we destroyed a total of eighteen Aurendor subordinate worlds.”
He clarified.
“You…”
“But this does not mean we are on Khaemorr’s side. If you are considering this as a factor, then I destroyed hundreds of Worlds under Khaemorr’s Faction.”
“That may be true,”
Suddenly, Ythric spoke up.
“Your people have been destroying ten Khaemorr Worlds every single day, but today, I have not received such reports. It could only mean—”
“It means we have stopped our attacks against Khaemorr because we got what we wanted. There is nothing more to it.
Do not forget,
I am a mercenary. I work for profit, not out of personal feelings.”
Nux answered, and Ythric smiled. This was exactly what he wanted to hear,
“And because of that, we want you to work for us.”
He offered.
“If it is profit you want, I am sure we can provide you whatever you want.”
“I did contact you because that was what I had in mind, but seeing your current condition, I have changed my mind.
You do not have what it takes to make a deal with me.
I would rather ally myself with the young girl whom you allowed to escape.
The current you is… running towards your own end.”
Nux declared, and Vexarion’s expression changed.
“…what did you say?”
