Synthetic Wizard - Chapter 112 - 97: Hundred-armed Monster

Chapter 112: Chapter 97: Hundred-armed Monster
Brad’s efficiency in handling matters is very high.
The next day, the investigation results were presented before Kei.
According to the investigation, it is highly likely that the village was attacked by a pack of beasts, as a lot of animal fur and broken claws and sharp teeth were found at the scene.
Upon confirming this, Brad immediately centered his search on the village, spreading outwards to look for traces of the beast pack.
Very soon, he found a trail of messy footprints and then discovered some bloodstains.
Following these traces, he eventually found a cave deep within the forest.
However, while investigating the interior of the cave, they were attacked by monsters and had to temporarily retreat.
After leaving some personnel to block off the cave, Brad hurried back to report the investigation results.
“These are the monsters Brad and his team encountered in the cave.”
Kei pointed to a few drawings on the table.
Sunan picked up the top drawing and couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows.
Isn’t this a Fierce Rat?
Fierce Rats belong to the Violent Series of beasts, a mutated species, extremely ferocious during attacks, relatively fast, and adept at using their sharp incisors to gnaw and crush their opponents.
However, speaking practically, the strength of a Fierce Rat is quite similar to that of an ordinary person; a cautious adult man could handle it.
A single Fierce Rat is nothing to worry about; the key is that they usually appear in large swarms, numbering in the hundreds when they show up.
In addition, they carry various bacteria, potentially infecting people with diseases like the rot fever and the plague.
Therefore, even a Knight encountering a swarm of Fierce Rats would generally choose to avoid their sharpness.
The second drawing depicted a monster with a toad’s head and sturdy limbs.
“Underground Toad Monster!”
This time, Sunan was truly shocked.
If it were merely Fierce Rats, he wouldn’t be so sure, as they can appear in many places, but Underground Toad Monsters are only found in the underground world. Could the cave possibly connect to the underground world?
Sunan couldn’t help but pause in thought.
Not long ago, he was contemplating where to find an entrance to the underground world, and before he took any action, the target appeared right in front of him.
Is this luck good or bad?
“You know this monster?” Kei asked.
Sunan nodded: “This is an Underground Toad Monster, a demon living in the underground world. I suspect the depths of that cave might connect to the underground world.”
“Underground world?” Kei seemed even more puzzled.
“A vast but very dangerous place, inhabited by many powerful and terrifying monsters.”
Upon hearing this, Kei’s expression instantly became very grave.
“Could it threaten Flash City?”
Sunan pondered for a moment and shook his head: “It shouldn’t.”
“The creatures of the underground world live in the constant darkness beneath the surface and can’t adapt to surface environments; at most, they might rarely come up to the surface for a brief raid, but won’t attack towns or anything like that.”
Kei visibly relaxed somewhat, but still frowned: “Does that mean those monsters might continue attacking other villages?”
“There’s that possibility.”
“What should we do then? Seal the cave?”
“No, leave this matter to me.” Sunan waved his hand.
Having finally found an entrance to the underground world, he was reluctant to seal it up just like that.
At the very least, he should explore it first.
“Deploy people to seal off the forest and the cave, preventing any more monsters from coming out to harm people, and don’t let unrelated individuals enter. As for the cave, leave it to me.”
Seeing Sunan’s resolve, Kei agreed to his plan.
Half an hour later.
The army of Flash City was deployed, sealing off the forest area to the north, barring entry to unauthorized personnel.
Sunan followed the army and arrived at the forest.
“Sir, this is the cave where the monsters appeared.”
In the depths of the forest, Brad pointed to the dark, ominous cave beneath the mountain wall.
“Have people guard the outside and kill any monsters that emerge immediately.”
Leaving that instruction, Sunan then entered the cave all alone.
On both sides of the cave hung torches, left by the soldiers who had previously explored it.
However, only the section near the entrance was illuminated; further in, it became a pitch-black expanse.
Sunan picked up a stone and cast a Light Skill; the dull stone immediately emitted torch-like rays, dispelling the surrounding darkness.
As he advanced, Sunan observed the traces around.
It was evident that the cave was not naturally formed but was instead manually excavated.
Without much doubt, it was likely the work of underground world residents.
Fierce Rats and Underground Toad Monsters clearly lacked such capabilities; it must have been some humanoid creature, like Kobolds, Gray Dwarves, or Mushroom People.
As Sunan progressed further, he soon discovered a section of the Silver Mine.
This gave more credence to the suspicion that the cave connected to the underground world.
After all, the most abundant resources in the underground world were undoubtedly various mineral veins.
“Squeak squeak!”
At this moment, a swarm of Fierce Rats surged from the darkness ahead, attacking Sunan like a tidal wave.
Their numbers appeared to be at least a hundred.
Sunan, unperturbed, stretched out his palm, facing the swarm.
The Burning Hand!
Whoosh!
A surging wave of flame erupted instantly, nearly covering the entire cave passage.
The swarming rats collided head-on with the searing flames, instantly turning into blazing fireballs, rolling on the ground with wretched wails.
In the blink of an eye, over a hundred Fierce Rats were completely annihilated.
Several Underground Toad Monsters that were driving the swarm from behind stood still, seemingly not expecting the intruder to be so ruthless.
When they came to their senses, what appeared before them were six fist-sized missiles.
Poof, poof, poof!
