Synthetic Wizard - Chapter 144 - 112: The Rest, You Kill for Me (Part 2)

Chapter 144: Chapter 112: The Rest, You Kill for Me (Part 2)
“As of now, I can be considered among the upper echelon of the Level 3 wizard apprentices.”
Sunan’s lips curved into a smile as he turned to look below.
With the death of the three human-faced lion nobles, the lions by the lakeshore lost their will to fight and scattered in all directions.
Unfortunately, they didn’t get far before the dual-bladed spiders caught up, slicing off their heads with their sharp limbs.
On the gentle lakeshore, the four-legged human-faced lions were no match for the eight-legged dual-bladed spiders.
In despair, some lions turned back, swinging their scimitars at the spiders in a desperate fight, only to be sliced in two by the spiders’ legs, which then swiftly decapitated them with another leg.
Against the swift, resilient, and razor-sharp dual-bladed spiders, the human-faced lions below Grand Knight Level stood no chance.
The fleeing lions were quickly exterminated by the dual-bladed spiders.
Under Sunan’s control, the golems and spiders spared the surrendering lions, ruthlessly killing those who resisted or fled.
The war ended even quicker than Sunan had anticipated.
It took less than an hour.
Apart from the formidable combat power of the Golem Legion, it was also thanks to the lions gathering outside the city, which made this surprise attack far more effective than expected.
“What should I do with these guys?”
Sunan looked down at the kneeling lions below, pondering.
After the slaughter, only about a hundred lions remained, including seven or eight elite lions of Grand Knight Level.
It’s a considerable force.
Killing them all would be easy but too wasteful.
If I keep them, I’ll need a good plan to handle them; otherwise, it could spell big trouble in the future.
While pondering, Sunan suddenly noticed something and turned to look at a distance, his face showing surprise.
“Not dead yet?”
“Quite tenacious.”
Sunan slowly descended to the ground, arriving in front of Carolina, who lay on the ground, and looked at her with interest.
Though this human-faced lion noble was covered in blood, with many penetrating wounds, her head, throat, and heart — the vital parts — remained unscathed.
Sunan was sure he hadn’t overlooked these deadly areas, so the only explanation was that she used some method to protect them.
Though she survived, Carolina was completely incapacitated, left only to lie there, barely clinging to life.
“Spare me… I beg you to spare my life…”
“Give me a reason.” Sunan raised an eyebrow and said.
“I, I can pledge loyalty to you, b-become your slave.”
With a glimmer of hope for survival, Carolina seemed to regain some spirit, and her speech became much more fluent.
“I can help you manage the city-state; you need someone familiar with this place to assist you. I can even tell you much about the surrounding intelligence.”
Sunan chuckled, “Sounds good, but your human-faced lion race is notorious for deceit and untrustworthiness; why should I believe you?”
“I can sign a Soul Contract!” Carolina said weakly.
Sunan narrowed his eyes, “You know quite a lot.”
A Soul Contract, in simple terms, is a slave contract, where one party divides a wisp of their soul, handing it over to the other party in contract form, thus placing their life under the other’s control. With a mere thought, the controller can extinguish the controlled’s soul in an instant.
Besides, if the controller dies, the controlled will also perish.
Overall, it’s an extremely harsh contract.
It must be signed voluntarily by both parties.
Once the Soul Contract is signed, Sunan could fully control Carolina, without worrying about betrayal.
Moreover, he did need someone to assist in managing the city-state.
Not to mention, those slaves would still require management.
In governing the city-state, the golem certainly wouldn’t be of any use.
The students at the base were still in their growth phase, unable to take on such roles for now.
Asking Kei for people was also out of the question.
The officials in the territory were unfamiliar with the underground world, and letting them manage the underground city-state might result in a fiasco.
After much consideration, using locals to manage the city-state seemed the best option.
“Alright, sign the Soul Contract, and I’ll spare your life.”
Under Carolina’s pleading gaze, Sunan pondered for a moment but finally nodded in agreement.
Hearing this, a look of ecstatic relief appeared on Carolina’s face.
Sunan flipped his wrist, revealing a gemstone in his palm.
With a rub between his thumb and forefinger, the gemstone instantly melted into translucent threads, forming intricate and mysterious patterns as he traced them in the air with his forefinger.
After completing the final step, Sunan pointed, and the patterns drifted towards Carolina’s brow, softly merging in and vanishing.
In the next moment, Carolina’s body trembled slightly, feeling an intangible connection with the wizard before her.
This was a one-way connection.
From today onward, her life would hang on the thoughts of the person before her.
After completing the contract, Sunan tossed a few healing potions to Carolina.
After consuming the potions, Carolina regained some mobility.
“My lord, about my kin…”
Carolina glanced at her kin not far away, cautiously inquiring to Sunan.
Sunan curled his lips into a faint smile and approached the kneeling lions, tapping some with his finger, selecting the fifty weakest ones, and then turned to Carolina, whose face was filled with confusion, saying:
“I’ll only keep these fifty; you take care of the rest for me!”
Since the city-state needed managing, Carolina would need some manpower, as she couldn’t be left to work alone.
However, not many people were needed — just enough to manage the slaves and handle some errands, and fifty lions should suffice.
As for defending the city-state, the Golem Legion would handle that.
While the Soul Contract prevented betrayal, Sunan also didn’t want to give Carolina any chance for ulterior moves.
Upon hearing Sunan’s words, Carolina’s expression changed.
Not far away, the unselected lions’ faces shifted drastically upon hearing the order, intending to resist desperately, but as they rose, an intangible wave enveloped them all.
Group Horror Skill!
It made all creatures within its range succumb to a state of terror.
This was a Tier Two spell that Sunan had recently mastered.
In an instant, the lions wore expressions of terror, as if witnessing horrific scenes, collapsing or cowering with their heads in their hands, losing all will to resist.
Sunan turned his head, looking coldly at Carolina.
Carolina’s face shifted subtly, her hesitation vanished, and she picked up a scimitar from the ground, gritting her teeth as she headed towards her terrified kin.
The lions are expert killers, and despite her severe injuries, Carolina’s execution was swift and clean, slicing throats with one stroke.
The excruciating pain snapped the lions out of their terror, but it was too late.
They produced guttural sounds from their throats and glared at Carolina in disbelief before collapsing silently.
Before long, sixty to seventy lions lay dead as corpses.
Carolina, holding a blood-stained scimitar, panted with her face ashen.
The eyes of the remaining fortunate lions, watching her, were filled with a complex mix of emotions.
Anger, indifference, sorrow, animosity…
Witnessing this scene, Sunan nodded quietly.
This was one of his reasons for having Carolina do the deed.
A wedge between them would prevent them from easily uniting as one.
Afterward, Sunan had the remaining lions sign Soul Contracts one by one, consuming all fifty gemstones in the process.
The reserve gemstones in his Space Ring were nearly depleted.
Having completed all this, Sunan instructed the lions to clean up the battlefield and round up the escaped slaves.
Fortunately, the island was surrounded by a lake; the slaves couldn’t run far. Sending a few groups of lions to drive them was enough to gather them back.
