System's POV - Chapter 1314: The Bully, and the Bullied [Part 1]

Chapter 1314: The Bully, and the Bullied [Part 1]
“Execute Plan C! I repeat, Execute Plan C!”
Thirteen’s voice sounded loud and clear from the Aether Channel the Defenders were using.
The soldiers hurried to their positions and began operating the magical cannons, firing them at the Smithing District of the city.
While the interior of the city of Velgrande had become a total war zone, the outside didn’t lose as the Jinns began attacking the Airships, whose high-ranking fighters had left them.
Led by King Valtheron, the members of the Blackfang Dominion struck without any warning to their enemies.
The Jinns fighting underground followed Cranky’s orders and also faced off against the bulk of the Azothralls, trying to destroy the barrier from below.
Regardless, the Defenders were at a great disadvantage in the war.
Their enemies were stronger, and they could only leverage their superior numbers to even out the odds.
But at most, the Jinns could only delay their enemies from advancing inside the city.
Regulus and the other High Archons divided into separate teams to pursue Zion, Rhavon, and the Naga Patriarch.
He had already confirmed that these three individuals were the ones controlling the defenses of the city.
As long as those three were eliminated, Regulus could lead the rest of their forces to storm the city and finally achieve victory.
“I can’t outfly him, Zion,” Zed said anxiously. “Did you kick his balls or something? Why is he personally targeting you?”
“I wish Giga were here.” Thirteen smirked. “I wonder what expression that old coot would make after smelling Giga’s fart?”
Zed chuckled despite the anxiety he felt. Such a scene was indeed an interesting sight that he was curious to see.
“Stop right there, you mongrel!” Regulus shouted. “If you surrender, I’ll let you keep your life.”
“Stop chasing me, old man, like the dog that you are,” Thirteen replied. “Aren’t you embarrassed? A Celestial chasing a Rookie? Does that even make sense?”
Regulus sneered as he slowly closed the distance between himself and the teenage boy, who was nearing the border of the city of Velgrande.
Seeing that his target had nowhere to run, Regulus and the High Archons by his side spread out, ensuring that the teenage boy wouldn’t be able to escape anywhere.
However, just as they thought that they already had the upper hand, a barrier suddenly rose from the ground.
Due to how fast they were flying, Regulus and the others didn’t have the leeway to make a full stop and slammed against the barrier that Rana had invoked.
“Damn, that felt good,” Rana muttered when she saw Regulus and his cronies slam headfirst into the barrier she created.
Regulus glared hatefully at Rana, infuriated at the trick she had played against them.
“So this is where you’re hiding, Rana.” Regulus snorted. “Do you really think that you’re a match against us? Men, destroy this barrier!”
Regulus and the High Archons began their attack, resulting in powerful booming sounds with each strike.
“A shield is not only meant for defense!” Rana roared. “Eat this!”
The Guardian of Lyra City struck out her palm, slamming the barrier she had made against the bastards who were trying to break it.
Regulus and the High Archons were pushed back in disbelief.
’How?!’ Regulus glared at Rana with bloodshot eyes. ’Why can’t we break these stupid shields?!’
Regulus had always thought that Rana was weaker than her, so he never thought of her as a threat.
Her power lay in creating barriers, so she was more of a defender than an attacker.
But Thirteen had painstakingly created a runic formation that would amplify Rana’s abilities, making her a pain for her enemies to handle.
She alone could hold the fort for quite some time, preventing any attacks from reaching the city, even if the shields Thirteen had erected were to collapse.
The previous incidents of the Rebel Army’s beam bombardment penetrating the city were done on purpose, fooling them into thinking that it was the only thing protecting the city.
Rana could maintain that barrier for a long time, and unless Castor fought her personally and took her inside his Dark Paradise, the city wouldn’t have been easily invaded by the Airships.
But these same Airships were currently fighting desperately against the flying Jinns, who were flying close to each airship to ensure that they couldn’t use their strongest cannons for fear of hitting the other Airships in their fleet.
When Plan C was executed, Thirteen, Rhovan, and the Naga Patriarch flew to the most defended parts of the city.
Thirteen flew straight to Rana, certain that the Celestial could protect him from those who wished to kill him.
Suddenly, a thunderclap reverberated inside the city.
’Cranky has joined the war, too,’ Thirteen glanced in the direction where lightning bolts were being fired in quick succession.
Since Cranky was seriously injured, he couldn’t exert his full strength in this battle. Fortunately, he wasn’t facing Celestials, so he could still hold his ground, at least for the time being.
Seeing where the lightning bolts were concentrated, Thirteen understood that the Honey Badger had come to protect Rhovan, who was being pursued by the Azothralls with golden markings on their bodies.
The Naga Patriarch was more crafty and had already prepared his own evacuation plan just in case Thirteen called for Plan C to take effect.
The Azothralls on Thirteen’s command had dug a tunnel for the Naga Patriarch to slither into.
Hiding under the ground was a smart move since they could freely leave and enter the barrier below Velgrande.
High above the sky, a giant bird circled the place where Thirteen and Rana were located.
Stella was already holding a bow in her hand, poised to unleash the arrow she had completed charging up.
As soon as she saw an opportunity, the young lady let go of the bowstring, and the arrow flew like a railgun, piercing through the chest of an Azothrall with the strength of an Archon.
Sweat slid from her forehead. The backlash of her attack was simply too strong.
Her hand that held the bow trembled for a bit.
’This is bad,’ Stella thought. ’I can’t feel my hand anymore.’
The bow she was using was a Divine Bow, gifted to her by her mother on her eighteenth birthday.
She said that Stella should only use it as a last resort, for it was too powerful for her to wield normally.
The Azothrall that she had hit earlier exploded into flames, dying in a single shot.
Had she known that her bow was strong enough to instantly kill someone with the rank of an Archon, she should have aimed at Regulus instead.
Even if the strike were to fail in killing the Celestial, she was certain that it would at least leave Regulus an injury that would make him feel wary of her.
From afar, a Half-Elf and an old man were eating popcorn, leaning on a reclined chair.
Both of them knew that they couldn’t interfere with the battle. Otherwise, the law of causality would make them pay the consequences for their actions.
The Half-Elf learned this lesson the hard way, which caused one of his daughters, Raizel, to get sucked into a dimensional rift that almost killed her.
Fortunately, he and his wife managed to find her in time, preventing her from being ripped apart by countless monsters that were too strong for her to handle.
But even though he looked very calm, he couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious for the safety of Stella, Maple, and Cinnamon.
If the three of them were to face danger, he would not hesitate to break the rules and go to their rescue.
