System's POV - Chapter 729 It Is Part Of Human Nature
Chapter 729 It Is Part Of Human Nature
In the arena, Mikhail’s gaze locked onto his opponent.
His opponent was Matthew Stallard.
Matthew was among the top five in the rankings of the strongest Wanderers of their generation. Many believed that he was in Second or Third Place in the Rankings.
However, Mikhail’s strength couldn’t be ignored either.
Thirteen’s brother wasn’t part of the top five only because he didn’t belong to the Monarch Clans.
Since the Monarch Clans prided themselves as the strongest families in the world, their Scions were also “the strongest” among the young generation.
That said, Mikhail was ranked 9.
Though the funny part was that, Shasha was also included in the rankings despite being younger.
She held the 7th Place in the Rankings, which was two spots higher than Mikhail. However, many believed that the only reason why Shasha had a higher Rank was due to the fact that she was a beautiful girl. This played a big role in the unofficial voting that was held to determine the ranks. In fact, Thirteen suspected that her sister could have even become the Top 1 Wanderer in the Rankings if the Monarch Clans didn’t manipulate the voting process.
“Are both of you ready to fight?” Thirteen asked.
Both young men nodded their heads at the same time.
“Battle Start!”
Matthew didn’t even wait for his opponent to make a move before charging toward his opponent.
Aside from the spear in his hand, two more spears were floating alongside him.
All the spear tips were aimed at the young man, who was standing tall while holding a War Axe in his hands.
Somehow familiar with Mikhail’s fighting style, Matthew had decided to close the gap between him and his opponent.
He had once been on a mission with his current opponent in Solterra. That mission ended after a year, and during that time, he had observed his opponent’s fighting style and was convinced that he had unearthed Mikhail’s weakness.
‘I need to close the gap, so he won’t be able to build his momentum by swinging his axe!’ Matthew thought as he closed in on Mikhail, who had raised his axe to strike.
“Too slow!” Matthew sneered as he thrust his spear forward.
The two other Spears that were floating alongside him also attacked like snakes going in for the kill.
However, what surprised Matthew was the fact that Mikhail seemed unfazed.
Matthew’s spear was only a meter away from his opponent’s chest, which might lead to his victory in the next second.
But just as he thought that he had already won his match, the sound of metal hitting each other reached everyone’s ears.
Mikhail’s axe suddenly grew in size, which served as a shield against Matthew’s three-pronged attack.
“Huh?!” The Scion of the Stallard Clan blanked out for a brief moment because he had never seen Mikhail use this kind of move in the past.
Usually, the young man would swing his axe, and the more he swung it, the more powerful it became, as if building up momentum to deal deadlier and more devastating damages to his foes.
Simply put, he had always believed that Mikhail was an offensive fighter, not a defensive one.
So seeing the giant axe serving as a shield caught him by surprise.
A second later, Mikhail used the palm of his hand to push the blade of his axe, which resulted in Matthew skidding backward due to the force behind his palm strike.
Seeing the exchange in the arena, Thirteen snickered. Mikhail’s move just now was one of the techniques he taught the latter in the Rigel Continent.
He knew that his brother was someone who had become a true combat specialist.
They said that offense was the best defense.
But defense could also be used as an offense if you knew how to do it properly.
Diana had learned this strategy after being trained by Thirteen, and now, her favorite move was to bash her shield against her opponents, sending them flying.
For this particular battle, Thirteen told Mikhail to use his defensive style of fighting.
The reason why he asked him to do this was due to the fact that he knew that his brother might have a hard time fighting against Matthew, whom he believed had studied his brother’s fighting style during the time that they were together in Solterra.
“Metal Spirit Charge!” Mikhail roared, and an image of a four-meter wolf-like creature, with its hairs standing on end like needles, appeared behind him. A second later, this creature charged at Matthew like a Spirit Attack, making the latter’s face turn grim. “Spear Sealing Formation!” Matthew shouted, and a fourth spear appeared beside him.
The two spears and the new spear connected to each other, forming a triangle in front of Matthew.
A moment later, the young man roared as he thrust the spear in his hand forward, striking at the center of the triangle formed by the three spears.
The three spears then started to spin rapidly while still locked together, causing sparks to appear around it, forming a shield that seemed to be imbued with lightning.
The Metal Spirit Mikhail had summoned slammed against the shield, creating a deafening screech that was similar to two metals grinding against each other.
A faint cracking sound was heard as the arena under Matthew’s feet exploded, creating a small crater.
With a roar of defiance, Matthew swung his spear upward, sending the Metal Spirit hurtling towards the sky.
The metal spirit then exploded in a shower of sparks that rained down on the arena like glowing rain.
Before Matthew could even take a breather, he suddenly saw Mikhail charging in his direction, poised to strike.
“Earth Cleaver!” Mikhail made a downward strike with his axe, sending a crescent blade that left a fissure in the arena as it made its way to his opponent.
Matthew planned to avoid it, but to his horror, it seemed that the space around him was locked, preventing him from moving away from where he was.
Left with no choice, he decided to bite the bullet and launched one of his strongest attacks.
“Piercing Dragon Thrust!” Matthew’s eyes glowed with power as he coated his spear with Aether.
The moment he thrust forward, a blue dragon erupted from the tip of his spear and collided with the Crescent Blade that was only a dozen meters away from Matthew.
A powerful explosion erupted the moment the two weapons collided with each other.
Due to him being at close proximity to the point of impact, Matthew once again skidded on the ground and slammed hard into the barrier of the arena.
