System's POV - Chapter 905 - 905: The 7th Layer Of The Apocalypse [Part 1]

The Order of the Apocalypse was empty when Thirteen got there, which he found odd.
“Where’s everyone?” Thirteen asked the God of the Apocalypse, who was waiting for his arrival.
“Probably playing with their new toys,” Metatron replied with a smirk. “Also, they must be preparing for the time when the barriers of Solterra and Pangea weaken.”
“Did Laplace Demon and The One come to find you?” Thirteen inquired.
“… Nah,” Metatron replied.
“You paused a bit, you know?”
“That’s just your imagination.”
Thirteen smirked, but no longer pried on the matters related to Metatron and The One.
He understood that the two had a very complicated relationship, and he didn’t plan on becoming their third wheel.
Of course, he wasn’t aware that he had already become a third wheel between these two opposing factions, who were also preparing for what was about to come.
Knowing that opening the 7th Layer would quickly elevate the strength of the members of the Order, Metatron decided to make an exception.
He gave everyone an opportunity to take one treasure that would allow them to survive the coming changes to both worlds.
“Are you ready?” Metatron asked before hovering his hand over the gate of the 7th Layer of the treasury.
“Yes,” Thirteen replied.
“I cannot accompany you inside,” Metatron stated. “You will see the descriptions of the treasures, as well as what they could do on the plaques below their display. Don’t hurry to pick one. Take your time and carefully look at everything.
“Don’t worry. The treasury is imbued with special time magic. Even if you spend a month inside, only an hour would have passed in both Solterra and Pangea.
Thirteen nodded in understanding.
The God of the Apocalypse then opened the door, allowing the teenage boy to enter it.
He believed that the teenage boy was smart enough to find the thing he needed the most.
In fact, Metatron himself was very curious about what kind of artifact Thirteen would take from the treasury.
When Thirteen stepped inside the treasury, he found himself in what seemed to be an open space with several intersecting paths.
Several signs hung on the walls, which made looking for the treasures that one wished to view easier.
Weapons, Armors, Artifacts, Consumables, Skills.
Each sign hung above a path, allowing easy access to anything that caught someone’s fancy.
After seeing the five choices presented to him, Thirteen pondered for a while before walking towards the “Skill” path.
‘I can only use Divine Skills, so I’ll check this path first,’ Thirteen thought as he walked the hallway that led to another open space.
There, he saw what seemed to be a library filled to the brim with books.
At the center was a floating orb the size of a basketball. It glowed faintly, and Thirteen instinctively knew how to use it.
Without any hesitation, the teenage boy placed his hand on the orb and gave his command.
A moment later, thirteen golden books flew in his direction and encircled him.
Each of these books contained a Divine-Ranked Skill, which he could use as it wouldn’t be blocked by the restrictions placed on him.
Thirteen reached out to one of the golden books to check the information inside of them.
The book that he chose had the words “Divine Dodge” on its cover, which made the teenage boy wonder if it would allow him to dodge any attack that was aimed in his direction.
If that were true, it was truly a Divine-Ranked Skill that might be useful to him.
*****
< Divine Dodge – Tax Edition >
Effect: Completely exempts the user from taxes in any world, timeliness, or circumstances. This skill is soul bound, so even if you reincarnate, you will be exempted from taxes in all of your lifetimes!
Description: The only skill more powerful than immortality.
******
Thirteen immediately closed the book and tossed it aside. Who could’ve expected that the divine dodge it was talking about was tax evasion!?
He then took the book beside it and read its cover.
“The Forbidden?” Thirteen arched an eyebrow. “This better be good.”
*****
< The Forbidden – Leftovers >
Effect: Any food placed in storage never spoils and tastes fresh when retrieved.
Description: Yes, even that three-month-old pizza slice. Science may not allow it, but divinity does. Amazing, right?!
*****
The teenage boy couldn’t help but facepalm seeing that two divine skills in a row were complete nonsense.
Perhaps this skill would work on foodies like Maple and Cinnamon who liked to eat all kinds of foods. As for him, he had no need for it!
Once again, he grabbed the next book, and didn’t even bother to read what was written on its cover.
*****
< Karen’s Divine Wrath >
Effect: Summon an unstoppable “Karen” to complain on your behalf.
Description: Warning! May cause irreversible trauma to customer service representatives.
*****
Thirteen was very tempted to burn the book in his hand, but he held back and tossed it to the side to check another skill book.
*****
< Plot Armor++ >
Effect: Can only die if the death is narratively satisfying.
Description: Even the gods have to write you a compelling sendoff before you go.
*****
“Plot armor?” Thirteen muttered.
Truth be told, he was very tempted to get this skill book. After all, it was one of the skills possessed by Heroes.
However, even Heroes would die in the end after their role ended.
He didn’t want to have that kind of skill as it meant his life would once again be at the mercy of Fate, which Thirteen didn’t want to happen.
One by one, Thirteen read the books and checked their contents. He hoped that one of them would just be as useful as the Plot Armor skill, which would allow him to maximize the restrictions placed on his body.
*****
< The Almighty Middle Finger >
Effect: Offending people with a middle finger gesture deals psychic damage.
Description: “Your disrespect now hurts.”
*****
The teenage boy was tempted once more, but he decided to set the book aside for the time being.
*****
< The Infinite Snack Pocket >
Effect: Reach into your pocket and always pull out a fresh snack of your choice.
Description: “You’re now the ultimate movie theater smuggler.”
*****
‘This is the kind of Divine Skill that Maple and Cinnamon would definitely like,’ Thirteen mused. ‘I’ll tell them about this skill later.’
The books that he checked next all had funny descriptions, but would certainly be very useful when used at the right moment.
This was especially true for the last skill book that Thirteen had read.
*****
< Insta-Karma Reflector >
Effect: Any bad deeds done against you immediately backfire on the perpetrator.
Description: “Works on scammers, thieves, and that one guy who took your lunch from the fridge.”
*****
‘I’ll come back later for this if I don’t see any other useful things from the treasury,’ Thirteen thought before placing his hand on the orb once more to return the books to where they came from.
After that, he left the Skill Path and went to the Consumables area.
He had taken a peek at the ornate box that Metatron had given him and was surprised to see a Titan Pill inside.
It was a consumable Thirteen wished to have, so he didn’t expect that it would fall into his hands this easily.
Of course, he understood that Metatron was giving him special treatment because he was indeed the “weakest”—at least if one was talking about physical and magical strength.
At the same time, the God of the Apocalypse understood that Thirteen’s strength wasn’t his physical prowess but his mental abilities.
So, with great expectations, Thirteen headed straight to the Consumable path to see if there were any other pills that would be useful to him.
