The Academy’s Weapon Replicator - Chapter 405 Part 1 - The Academy’s Weapon Replicator

That night, Frondier summoned Elodie and Pielott.
He wanted to call everyone else, but Arald was busy with the three-dimensional map project, and he didn’t have time to wait to explain it to everyone.
First, he needed to talk to Elodie and Pielott, who were actually attending Atlas.
He had already shared the situation with Elodie, so he only had to explain it to Pielott.
“…It’s a good thing you didn’t open your mouth carelessly.”
After hearing everything, Pielott’s face became the same as Elodie’s in the classroom after school.
If it had been the Pielott of the past, he might have gotten carried away by the attention of the surrounding students and blabbed about this and that. And a slip of the tongue or two might have come out.
However, in Atlas, the number of times Pielott opened his mouth could be counted on one hand, so there was no need to worry for the time being.
“Is this accommodation okay?”
“Yes. I checked beforehand. The one here is just an ordinary one.”
Pielott was relieved at that.
The worry was rather on Frondier and Elodie’s side.
“For some reason, he was obsessed with my relationship with Elodie.”
Frondier sighed.
Pielott asked.
“Does that have anything to do with eavesdropping?”
“Eavesdropping is digging up information about the other person, right? It’s about being wary of a sudden newcomer. It’s even more troublesome if the two of them were originally acquainted.”
Eavesdropping is, of course, a crime. It was only natural for someone who had been doing such a thing from the beginning to be wary of outsiders.
If Frondier and Elodie were to share information, they might even suspect Giotto’s words in the process. There was a risk of being caught by the very person they were supposed to be digging up information on.
In fact, that thought hit home, and Frondier had been suspicious of Giotto from the beginning.
He didn’t know it would be on such a large scale.
“Elodie was getting Giotto’s attention, so maybe he was eavesdropping on her more than me. Did you say anything dangerous?”
“I don’t think I said anything like that. In Atlas, I was just concentrating on my general classes. I wasn’t interested in Giotto in the first place.”
Poor Giotto.
Actually, not pitiful at all.
“…Then there’s only one problem left.”
“Yeah. The fact that we were talking in an empty classroom.”
The wiretapping device wasn’t limited to Frondier’s classroom. It was all over Atlas.
Of course, there were not completely no blind spots, but at least all the places that could be called ‘rooms’ had them installed. Wherever there was a speaker, there was bound to be a wiretapping device as well.
“If Giotto heard that, he would have immediately noticed my acquaintance with Elodie. He would have known we were putting on a fake fight.”
“And we said a lot of other dangerous things.”
Actually, the really dangerous thing was the decision about the technique, but Frondier believed that Giotto wouldn’t be able to figure out what they were talking about just by listening to the conversation. Even Elodie was seeing his original for the first time.
However, just because there was a wiretapping device in that room didn’t necessarily mean that Giotto was eavesdropping.
Fortunately, Giotto wasn’t in the staff room at the time because he was in class. In other words, he didn’t see the two of them arguing, nor did he see them move to another location after the argument.
“What if Giotto is a pervert who eavesdrops even during class?”
“There’s a possibility of that, but if it were me, I wouldn’t do anything that risky. The students here aren’t ordinary people. They’d definitely notice if you had something plugged into your ear or were using strange Mana.”
The chances of Giotto overhearing their conversation were slim.
However, Frondier and Elodie’s expressions were dark.
Pielott asked.
“If Giotto wasn’t listening, isn’t it okay? Now that we know there are wiretapping devices installed all over the place, we can just report it.”
“The problem is whether we can report it.”
“Huh?”
Pielott asked back, not understanding Elodie’s words.
Frondier explained.
“The design of the speakers I saw didn’t look out of place on the outside. Of course, that’s because I don’t know the original design of speakers or wiretapping devices, but there was nothing sticking out, out of spec, or looking like it had been forced in. So, the design must have been like that from the beginning.”
Pielott’s face turned pale at those words.
“…It was designed to be able to install wiretapping devices from the beginning?”
“Or maybe the speakers came with a ‘wiretapping function’ in the first place.”
The reason why the wiretapping devices didn’t react to Mana detection: because they could be concealed by the Mana used for the speakers.
Just by looking at that, it was clear that the two were not separate.
“It’s hard to think that the existing speakers were removed and replaced. There are a considerable number of speakers in Atlas. Removing them and installing new ones would be a huge undertaking. There’s no way Teacher Giotto could have done it without getting caught.”
“…Giotto isn’t alone.”
“Yeah, that’s the problem.”
Frondier and Elodie sighed.
Their eyes met, their gazes similar as they closed their eyes.
“How deep are they involved in this large-scale criminal ring?”
“…”
Pielott was speechless as he looked at the two.
If Dier had been in this place, Pielott would have looked at him unconsciously.
Because he usually injected a new perspective into these kinds of conversations by saying, “I think…”.
As Pielott had observed Dier from the side, not only was he quick-witted, but he was also able to see the situation from a third-person perspective. He had a knack for seeing things from afar, as if even himself were a passerby.
Pielott couldn’t do that. He was extremely personal and subjective.
“…In that kind of situation, usually,”
So his perspective was not a logical and rational deduction.
He had seen this similar situation in novels. Although in Aias’s case, it was a bit off the mark.
“Isn’t the highest person in the organization the mastermind? Like the Headmaster. Hahaha.”
“…”
“…”
