The Broken Halo - Chapter 279: He Wanted To Become A God

Chapter 279: 279: He Wanted To Become A God
’Traitorous hero… It seems I’ll finally see why this author says I was a traitor.’
Simon flipped the page, then he read out loud softly.
“As one of the few and rare historians of the demon realm, I was never bothered with what was happening on earth, but there was something I heard from some demons who went to earth and came back to the demon realm.”
“According to them, the hero who killed our king was actually a traitor and the power, wealth, fame, and authority he had, had gotten into his head.”
“In order to become a god, he planned on using the corpse of the Demon King of Death.”
“After killing our king, he took the corpse back to Earth and hid it from everybody, even his wife and comrades. From what I heard from the demon, his plan was to use the corpse to become a god.”
“And if one thought about it, it was plausible…maybe.”
“I mean, the Hero of Earth and the Demon King of Death were extremely powerful Demi-Gods. From what I heard, even some Demi-Gods who were older than them did not dare battle neither of them.”
“They were just far too powerful for newly born Demi-Gods, and if one of them decided to absorb the other, it’s very possible that a new god would be born.”
“The demon later told me that the gods eventually intervened and chose to kill him because of his greed for power.”
“I don’t know how exactly he died since it was not made known, but the story going around was that he died a traitor.”
“His greed for power caused him to consider taking a forbidden path, all so that he could become a god. So that he could become the god of earth.”
“And when I heard this, I decided to take a trip to earth to try and get the story myself.”
“To my surprise, it was actually true.”
“Over a century had passed since the death of the hero of earth, and I never had a reason to come to earth, so I don’t know what exactly happened after his death.”
“But during the time I went there in disguise, there were many humans who hated the hero, were disgusted by him, were disappointed in him, and some did not even care about him.”
“It was rather strange to me because these were the same humans who would put their lives on the line when fighting against us as long as the their hero was leading them.”
“Now, they were all against him, all because of what those gods said.”
“Many of the commoners did not even know about him. They only knew about the current Demi-Gods of Earth, their true heroes who had brought true prosperity and peace to earth.”
“For those who still remembered the first hero of earth, they even stated that during his time, the blood that was shed on earth was far too much.”
“The Hero’s period was a time of bloodshed, death, and war. But this time around, the current Demi-Gods brought peace, prosperity, and stability to earth. How could they not love and appreciate the current Demi-Gods more than the first hero?”
“Also, their Demi-Gods and heroes were not greedy or overly ambitious like the First Hero. They did not aspire to be gods and were okay with their current positions.”
“So many things were said about the First Hero, and I could not help but wonder just how fickle and foolish humans were.”
“It was the First Hero that protected the entire human race from us demons. He was the strongest human and the biggest deterrent against demons. He was their saviour, protector, and like they used to call him, their Halo.”
“But now, because of the words of the gods, they’ve branded him a traitor.”
“So what if he wanted to use the corpse of the Demon King of Death to become a god? How was that bad for the human race as a whole?”
“If he became a god, wouldn’t it mean that demons might even cease to exist since we have no god? How could humans be so foolish?”
“Although the treasures and properties of the Demon King of Death were taken by other Demon Lords, his name and reputation was never tarnished by us demons.”
“Sometimes, I cannot help but wonder if there’s any difference between humans and demons.”
Simon paused for a moment, then he released a deep sigh before he continued reading.
“Humans are a forgetful race. They forget all about the good and benefits one brought to them, and they only focus on the bad.”
“But I’m still curious about something, and I’m wondering why none have ever asked this question.”
“If the Hero of Earth took the corpse of the Demon King of Death to earth and hid it, how come the Demon Lords used the corpse to become Demon Kings?”
“Did the gods give the corpse to the Demon Lords?”
“Or did the Demon Lords find a way to take the corpse of the king from earth?”
“Why do I feel like things are not as it seems.”
“Why do I feel like the truth is hidden behind so many lies from the humans, gods, and even demons?”
Simon flipped open to the last page.
“And I almost forgot to state how earth benefited from the death of their hero.”
“Just like the demon realm, earth suddenly had a massive increase in the concentration of aether in the environment, but the increase could not be compared to the increase the demon realm experienced.”
“So, I guess the Demon King of Death had far more demonic energy compared to the Hero’s aether reserve.”
“I don’t know why earth experienced the same thing we did since I’m not a human obviously, but there’s something I’ll never forget.”
“The strange words of a certain drunk beggar I encountered on earth.”
“The beggar said that the blood and flesh of the hero was actually used by his comrades and other heroes to become Demi-Gods.”
The moment Simon read this part, his eyes could not help but widen in disbelief and immense shock.
