The Broken Halo - Chapter 280: So Many Questions

Chapter 280: 280: So Many Questions
Simon believed he read wrong.
No.
He had to have read wrong.
’My flesh and blood was used by my past comrades to become Demi-Gods?’
Simon read this line over and over and over again, but no matter how many times he read it, the words did not change.
They remained the same.
He frowned deeply.
’This cannot be.’
’Even if my friends betrayed me, I don’t believe that they’ll stop so low and use my flesh and blood to become Demi-Gods.’
’Such paths are meant for demons, not humans, and especially not those guys.’
’Yes, I know that there are cannibals amongst humans, but they were not cannibals. That’s just going too far.’
’Maybe it means another thing. Maybe…maybe they…’
’…no. That can’t be… Did they use my flesh and blood to concoct alchemical products? Could that be what it means?’
Simon placed his face in his hands and released a deep sigh while looking down.
’I know that I should not have this confidence that they would never do such a thing to me since I had such confidence that they would never backstab me.’
’But if they did…if they did… Then that would be going too far.’
’Even if it’s to become a Demi-God and to become more powerful, using my flesh and blood is just going too far.’
Although one might make the claim that he had done something similar to Thorgan.
He stabbed Thorgan in the back, then used his flesh and blood to get stronger and to even get a new affinity for himself.
However, Simon did this for a reason, and his current personality was as a result of the betrayals, pain, torture, and suffering he had gone through.
His previous self would have never thought of doing such a thing for power, especially to his friends and wife.
They never went through what he did, and if one of the reasons why they betrayed him was to get power through his flesh and blood.
The disappointment he’d feel would not be quantifiable.
It’d mean that his friends were monsters and demons in human skin.
’It’s not bad enough for you to destroy my reputation and call me a traitor, you also used my flesh and blood to become Demi-Gods?’
’Oh, old friends, I just pray that those words are the words of a drunkard and not the truth. Cause if they are, I won’t mind bathing in your flesh and blood.’
Simon closed the book with more force than necessary, then he went back to the shelf to return it.
He had reached the end of the book, and unfortunately, the writer did not write about the Second Great War between the demon realm and earth.
He planned on looking for a book that talked about the Second Great War.
As for everything he read, he had far too many thoughts and questions regarding them.
He wouldn’t deny the fact that all the reputation and fame that he built has been completely razed to the ground by either his friends, the gods, or both.
He spent decades building that reputation, and he believed that he would go down in history as one of the greatest kings and heroes of earth.
That was his wish.
That once he was done annihilating the demon realm, he would have children, focus on his kingdom, and build a long lasting legacy for his lineage.
But who was he before fate?
Man planneth, fate decideth.
The realisation that his reputation was in the grounds stung his heart no matter how frozen and dark it currently was, but he made sure that he didn’t dwell too much on it.
He was no longer Simon, but Blackmoon.
He was no longer the Hero or Halo of Earth, he was now a weak demon who was struggling to climb the path of power.
He had to focus on the present and not the past.
If the humans he bled, sweat, and risked his life for countless number of times chose to believe that he was actually a traitor who wanted to use the corpse of a demon to become a god, then so be it.
It wasn’t his problem anymore.
However, he still had some questions which he was 100% certain that only the gods or his friends could give him the answer to.
Why?
Why exactly had they betrayed him?
Was it to get power?
Was it to get his riches?
Was it because of envy and jealousy?
Or was it actually because of the corpse of the Demon King of Death?
He also had the same question the author of the book had.
How had the Demon Lords gotten the corpse of the Demon King of Death?
Was it the gods that were actually the masterminds behind his death?
Why were there no Demon Gods even after so many years?
Even after the existence of Hell Holes?
What was the true relationship between the gods and demons?
What of the Heralds?
The system that humans use.
The Heralds were the ones that brought the system to earth, and they were like the administrators of the system.
But now, Simon knew that there were beings that were more powerful than the gods he knew.
And that the Heralds were also more mysterious and maybe even more powerful than the gods themselves.
Simon could go on and on and on about the questions and thoughts he had after reading this book, but he needed to read more books.
He needed to see what other books recorded.
He knew that he could not completely believe what a book said, but if three or more books said the same thing, then there was some element of truth to it.
After spending about ten minutes looking through the books on the shelf, he took three more books and went to seat down.
One book was about the Second Great War between Earth and the Demon Realm.
The second book was about the current Geopolitical situation of the demon realm.
He wanted to take a book on politics alone, but after thinking about it, he had no idea what changes had been made to the geographical state of the demon realm.
So, he chose a book on Geopolitics instead.
And the third book was on Economy.
