The Broken Halo - Chapter 331: Hung Corpses

Chapter 331: 331: Hung Corpses
Sunless looked at Simon with slightly furrowed brows, then she looked down and muttered.
“You’re not changing it because you want the whole world to know you as your birth name…that’s surprising.”
Simon raised a brow at her.
“I never expected you to be comfortable with such a name.” She shook her head. “But oh well. That’s you.”
Simon gave her a strange look, and he was extremely curious to know if she believed Sunless was a good name or title to be comfortable with.
“Why did you decide to call yourself Sunless?” He decided to ask.
Sunless looked at him, then she ate a little before responding to him.
“Because I hate the sun and because I want to kill the sun.”
Simon blinked, then he tilted his head and looked at her with a baffled light.
“Which sun?”
Sunless laughed softly, and her laughter was so charming and pleasing to the ears that some of the other Initiates around them had to look at her.
Simon’s expression remained indifferent, and he continued eating while waiting for her to speak.
“It’s a joke, Broken Halo. Is there a sun for me to kill in the demon realm, and even if there was, how can I possibly kill a sun?”
She shook her head, and she could not help but chuckle softly when she recalled how Simon seemingly believed her.
“Sunless is my actual name. That’s why I chose it.”
Simon looked at her with a raised brow, then he looked around to see the reactions of those around them.
“You’re okay saying your real name out loud?”
She nonchalantly waved her hand.
“Trust me. It’s not a problem. Besides, it’s not like you had a problem when I said yours out loud.”
Simon looked at her.
“That’s because my name has been exposed a long time ago.”
Sunless shrugged and was about to speak, but she stopped and turned to her right because Simon suddenly had a frown as he looked to his left.
Both of them saw Akaza approach, and Simon could instantly perceive Akaza’s solemn gaze and aura.
’Something happened.’
His eyes flashed with a myriad thoughts, then a few seconds later, Akaza stood before both Simon and Sunless.
His gaze was entirely on Simon, and he did not even bother giving Sunless a glance.
“You need to see something.”
Simon furrowed his brows slightly, then he nodded.
He looked at Sunless. “We’ll talk later.”
Sunless lips parted open as she was about to speak, but Simon did not even wait for a split second as he stood and started walking beside Akaza.
“Fucking bastard.” She pouted behind her mask while folding her arms.
She then looked at the plates of food before her and clicked her tongue.
She left without even bothering to touch the remaining food, causing some hungry Initiates to look at the food with desire.
Eventually, one summoned up the courage and he went to quickly pack some of the food before running away.
He knew what could happen next, and he was right.
Not too long after he left, other hungry Initiates quickly moved to Simon and Sunless’ table to pick a food or two…or five.
Only the shameless shall survive.
While this was going on, Simon had a deep frown as Akaza told him the reason for his approach.
“Three members of the Iron Fangs were hung at the entrance of our headquarters. Their bodies were also maimed and brutalized.”
That was all Akaza said, and Simon could feel the bubbling anger Akaza was trying to control and not let erupt.
Maybe it was toward the perpetrators.
Maybe it was toward him.
And maybe toward Akaza himself.
He had no idea, but Simon would not deny the fact that he was a little bit surprised by this news.
’So the factions have the power and backing to kill not just one Initiate but three Initiates?’
’Hmm… I half expected them to approach me or to try and attack me. I also anticipated them attacking the Iron Fangs or Akaza alone, but I didn’t expect them to be able to kill an Initiate and even showcase it in broad day light.’
’Things might get a little tricky from here on out.’
Eventually Simon and Akaza reached the headquarters of the Iron Fangs, and Simon saw everything.
He saw the Iron Fangs gathered around the three corpses which were hung at the entrance of the headquarters.
When the members of the Iron Fangs saw both he and Akaza approach them, the atmosphere instantly changed.
It became dark and extremely chilling.
Simon first swept his gaze across the Iron Fangs, and he could see the anger, disgust, hatred, and even killing intent in the eyes of some.
He was unaffected by them all.
Some were about to shout and riot, but Akaza raised a fist, signalling for all to keep quiet.
The members of the Iron Fangs might not have learned to fear and be wary of Simon yet and some might even still underestimate him.
But Akaza knew just how frightening Simon could be.
Simon ignored all of these, and he calmly shifted his gaze to the three hung corpses.
The three corpses had their masks on, but their masks were bloodied, their clothes torn and bloodied, and they were each missing a body part.
One did not have an arm.
One did not have a leg.
One had their eyeballs hanging from the eye holes of their mask.
It was an extremely horrifying scene to look at, but Simon observed everything with extreme calmness and indifference.
He obviously felt nothing since the Iron Fangs were disposable tools to him, but he knew that he had to do something.
Not only for the Iron Fangs.
But for himself.
He looked at Akaza.
“Get them down and bury or burn their corpses. Treat their bodies with respect. They deserve at least that.”
Akaza looked at Simon with slight surprise, and so did some of the members of the Iron Fangs.
Simon turned and calmly looked at the members of the Iron Fangs.
“Blood will be paid back with blood. Our enemies would pay for what they have done. This, I promise you.”
