The Broken Halo - Chapter 364: A Man’s Fists

Chapter 364: 364: A Man’s Fists
After seeing that none of the first years were going to make a comment regarding Simon’s insult, Instructor Amahi shifted her attention back to Simon.
She was not actually satisfied with the answer he gave regarding his sea of consciousness.
She had a feeling that there was more to it, but she also knew that Simon was most likely saying the truth.
She decided to move on from the conversation about his sea of consciousness and ask other questions.
“When you were fighting the second bulwark, what did you do to make him oblivious to the fact that you were killing him?”
This was one of the most important, if not the most important question she had. No matter how hard she thought about it, she couldn’t think of an answer for this.
Out of everything Simon did in the simulation, that was the strangest, and she was really looking forward to knowing what Simon had to say about it.
Unfortunately for her, Simon would disappoint her.
“I’m sorry, Instructor Amahi, but I can’t tell you that. That’s my secret. I’m sure you know that everybody has a hidden ability or two. And I’m sure you do too.”
“So, I hope you can understand if I want to keep this hidden ability of mine…well…hidden.”
Instructor Amahi frowned behind her mask.
She knew that Simon did nothing wrong by asking her to let go of this question.
She understood the concept of having hidden weapons and abilities. She was an assassin after all.
However, even if she understood it, she still felt an itch because she really wanted to know how Simon did such a thing.
It was absolutely terrifying when she thought about it because it could have been her.
The thought of her dying without reacting to the fact that she was dying was terrifying.
To her, this was a massive trump card.
’I want to know his secret, but he doesn’t want to tell me. I can threaten him, and I can use the academy to force him to spill out this secret. But… I don’t really want to.’
’My pride does not want to. Stooping so low to the point where I desire the secret of my student and a Fiend at that.’
’That would be too pathetic.’
She inhaled deeply and decided to control herself.
’But, even if I don’t want to stoop so low to know his secret. I’m curious. Is it the ability of an artifact?’
She decided to ask.
“Your secret. Is it the ability of an artifact?”
Simon immediately shook his head.
“No. It’s not.”
Instructor Amahi narrowed her eyes, then she nodded and truly decided to let go of her curiosity.
There was a possibility of Simon lying, but he sounded very convincing. So, she chose to believe him.
She decided to ask another question.
“How did you get to know about the Bulwarks? Over 90% of your classmates had no knowledge of the Bulwarks. But you seemed to have known their weakness and strengths beforehand. How?”
Simon expected this question, and his lips curled up into a slight smile.
“At a glance, it was obvious that the Bulwarks had extremely high physical prowess. Especially their physical defenses. It was very obvious that their defenses were their strong point.”
“Their eyes seemed to be their only weak spot, so I targeted that.”
Instructor Amahi already guessed that this was what Simon did, but she was still surprised nevertheless.
“So, basically, you were observant enough to take note of their strengths and weakness?”
Simon nodded and shrugged indifferently.
“Yeah. Like I said, it was kind of obvious.”
He paused for a moment, then he said something else to further strengthen his lie.
“If you recall, I punched the first Bulwark I encountered, so I already knew that their physical defenses were too high for me to break through.”
Instructor Amahi nodded once again, and she was even more impressed. However, she was curious and confused about something.
“Why don’t you use a weapon? If you had a weapon, you wouldn’t have had such a hard time against the Bulwarks.”
Simon was taken aback because he didn’t expect this. He didn’t know what to say for a moment, but he eventually thought of something.
“Because a man uses his fists and does not rely on weapons.”
Everybody instantly had strange expressions behind their masks, and they gave Simon weird looks.
They didn’t expect such words from him.
Even Instructor Amahi gave Simon a strange look.
“You remind me of a particular bearded, hairy, and loud bastard. He’s so infuriating.”
Simon tilted his head slightly, and coincidentally, he had an idea about who this hairy and loud bastard was.
’He’s one of the instructors I chose to teach me how to use my fists.’
“But do you know that you fight like a swordsman?”
Simon’s lips could not help but twitch when he heard this, but his gaze and expression were completely calm.
“Your movements are like that of a swordsman. Every step you take, every swing you make, and even every attack you block is similar to that of a swordsman.”
“It’s like you’re forcing yourself to become something you’re not, and it’s strange… It’ll be disappointing to see you waste your talent in the sword path.”
She paused and looked deeply at Simon.
“I know somebody that can teach you the way of the sword. He’s very good, and he’ll make sure your talent does not go to waste.”
Simon tilted his head slightly, a surprised light flickering in his eyes.
“But I’m a slave.”
Instructor Amahi chuckled and scoffed at the same time.
“It’s for a price of course.”
Simon’s lips twitched. “I see.”
“So, what do you say? Don’t worry though, I’ll make sure that it’s not too expensive for you.”
Simon looked down for a moment, and he seemed to be in thought.
Three seconds later, he looked up.
“Thank you, but a man’s fists and claws are the only weapons a man needs. Not some objects made out of metals.” He said with a pained smile behind his mask.
