The Broken Halo - Chapter 454: Outside The Academy

Simon obviously faced resistance when he tried using the Shadow Enforcers against Caesar’s factions.
There were some Shadow Enforcers who had been bought by Caesar, and some of them tried to stop their colleagues from arresting and stopping some of these operations that were run by Caesar’s factions.
Simon had to blackmail Interrogator Radan to work for him, and the demon was obviously terrified when he realized that Simon wanted him to interrogate all the illegal practices Caesar’s factions were doing.
Despite the fact that Radan was a low ranking Interrogator, he knew about all the illegal activities of the three factions and even other factions.
But what could he do?
He was just a low ranking interrogator, and even if he had the power to do anything, why should he?
It benefitted him in no way.
Unfortunately for Radan, Simon was able to get information on some of his dark secrets and if these secrets were to be known, he would do jail time without a doubt.
At the end of the day, the only benefit Radan obtained is the fact that he was promoted for all the successful arrests and investigations he carried out.
By all means, Radan should have been assassinated by the factions that were affected by the arrests and exposures he did, but he was not.
And this was where Ormon came in.
Through Ormon, Simon was able to know some Shadow Enforcers who were not on the side of Caesar.
They were either neutral or they belonged to another faction or an opposing faction.
No law enforcing demon chose to become a law enforcer all because of justice or all because they wanted to keep everything in order.
Absolutely not.
All of them were benefiting from it in one way or the other, and Simon just had to find the demons who would benefit the most from the downfall of the illegal activities of Caesar’s factions.
Once he gave them this information and came to an agreement with them, the rest was easy to figure out.
Simon’s actions caused some important members of the three factions to be arrested and severely punished at the same time.
Though Simon was certain that with Caesar’s connections and power, these members would be free in no time.
However, according to what Ormon told him, the imprisonment and exposure of some of these faction members would cause damages to Caesar and his factions because other factions who want to topple Caesar would use this opportunity to try and obtain information from them.
His actions of exposing some of these hidden practices of the factions also gave the other factions an advantage against him.
Simon was not part of a faction, but with the help of the slaves, he was becoming a force to be reckoned with.
Some members of the Obsidian Thorns, Iron Ledgers, and Sanguine Fang began to wonder how he was able to find out all these locations and how he was able to achieve everything that he did.
The day was peaceful to a certain extent in the academy, but the night was absolutely not.
Because of how large his ’organization’ had become, Simon had to start paying them for everything they did.
From the slaves to the Iron Fangs to Akaza.
He paid them their wages, and well, he definitely underpaid them.
Many complained about how badly he was treating them, but since they were poisoned, what could they do?
The Iron Fangs complained the most but about 95% of the slaves were contented with what he was giving them.
Compared to the pathetic lives they were living before, the money Simon was giving them was helping them a lot.
Many began to admire Simon the more for helping them.
As for those who complained, what could they do?
They were all poisoned, and those who went to the factions in order to remove the poison came back worse.
And once they came back, they would be forced to pay a completely absurd fine to Simon.
Some instructors and even powerhouses made attempts to buy the formula for Skinfire and its antidote from Simon, but Simon never sold it.
He asked for a minimum of five million merits for him to even consider selling the formula for Skinfire.
It was obviously an outrageous price, and everybody backed off.
At first, the Iron Fangs complained about their situation, but eventually, they adapted when they saw that things were not changing for them.
Simon’s poison was just too terrifying.
Besides, some members of the Iron Fangs began to feel a sense of pride because wherever they passed, some Initiates would tremble in fear.
Aside from that, Simon knew how to manage the Iron Fangs and he also knew the right amount of money to pay them so that they would just be okay.
There was a line, and he made sure that he stayed right on that line.
Although Simon had made quite a lot of money from exposing the illegal activities of Caesar’s factions, he still had to find a source of income.
Caesar was becoming smart with all these illegal activities, and there were times when the Shadow Enforcers would receive a tip from Simon but the faction members would have escaped with their valuables.
Simon currently has money, but it would not last.
And while he was thinking of how he could make some money, he received a message.
A shocking message in fact.

(Presently)
Simon sat beside Sunless and waited for Instructor Valdin to arrive for their class on chaos runes.
After their first week, Instructor Valdin no longer waited for them to arrive at the academy entrance.
They had to arrive on time as usual, and anybody that was late would still get punished.
’The instructor seems to be late today. I wonder why.’
Just as Simon had this thought as he rested the side of his head on his fist, Instructor Valdin entered the quiet class.
A few seconds later, he looked at Simon.
“Broken Halo. You have been assigned a mission outside the academy.”
