The Devil CEO's Contract Wife - Chapter 275: Vixen

Chapter 275: Vixen
[Music: Vendetta By UNSECRET, Krigare]
I strolled through the club. The dance floor was tempestuous as bodies swayed to the deafening beat. My hand traced the railing as I climbed the stairs. We were led towards a more isolated area, and the beat from the main club faded.
In the back hallway, there was a heavy steel door guarded by two men in black suits. They looked between Athena and me.
“Name…” he asked.
“Come on, darling, you don’t know us?” Athena said, stepping close. “How about we refresh their memory?”
“Vixen…” I said.
They both looked at each other as if speaking with their eyes.
“And Medusa,” Athena said.
“Forgive us, we have been expecting you.”
They stepped away from the door and opened it. We stepped in through a hallway that was tightly guarded until we emerged into a bright space.
From here we could see the second floor where dealings were made.
“Well then, Cat. This is phase one. I hope you’re ready.”
I don’t reply, observing everything. It was just like the casino, except this was far more intense. The air was tight in a way, and I knew danger lurked in every corner.
This was the crime world, and everything happening right now was either questionable or downright illegal.
Athena took my hand and led me down the stairs. She was quick to flow, introducing us, and I played my part.
Wherever my eyes moved, I saw guns, friendly or mean-looking men and women, all here to spend money, to bet their fortunes or explore ecstasy. Drugs.
With Athena’s guide, I was able to navigate and found myself at a table.
“Vixen…” I moved my eyes off the cards to the woman in front of me, the tip of her cigar burning angry red.
“I haven’t heard of you…” She slowly brought the cigar to her lips. “Where has someone like you been? You’re quite good with cards.”
A smile slyly stretched my lips. “It’s a secret.”
“I see… word has it that you got money to spend.”
“I do.”
She pointed at me. “That, love, is gonna get you more famous.”
“I’m not here to be famous.”
She tilted her head. “Then what are you here for?”
“To play…” I replied, amused. “All in.”
A slow smirk crept on her lips. “Let’s see what you’re made of.”

It’s becoming addictive.
It was meant to learn the ways of the underworld, but an insatiable feeling was taking over me. It wasn’t just the danger, but it was freedom that came with it. No matter what, you get to choose the outcome.
At first, I was scared and wondered if I was doing the right thing or if Ares would find out about my extracurricular activities, but with Athena’s help, we have steered smoothly, and Ares has been busy lately, so it was more to our advantage.
My disguise was top-notch this time. I really took on the role of Vixen seriously.
My wig was a sleek, straight bob that fell above my shoulders. With full straight bangs that sit just at my eyebrows, framing my face neatly.
I wore contacts, green, and it completely transformed me into a different person.
I clutched the gun off the table, feeling the texture, but I couldn’t completely because of the lace gloves I wore. It felt heavy in my grip, like I was holding onto a weight, but it was more from my chest.
I could never wield or look at guns the same way again.
“Well, what do you think?”
I moved my gaze to the dealer.
“I have the best…”
“You do. But guns aren’t really my thing.” I say that, but I had a small pistol in my thigh garter for protection.
“Then what is your thing then?”
“Still figuring that out. Hopefully, I will find an answer.”
“When you do, you know where to find me. I supply the best, and I’m also recommended personally to Don King.”
Goosebumps rose on my skin, and I cleared my throat. “Don King?”
He chuckled. “You really are new here…”
“Tell me about this Don King.”
“He’s the kind of person you don’t wanna mess with. That is all I can say.”
I smiled as I walked past him. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
I emerge into the busy casino, my eyes veering around the area until I pause.
“Shit!” I cursed quietly.
“What’s the matter?” I heard Athena’s voice from the small earpiece I wore.
“It’s James…”
“James who?”
“Shaw. By your left.”
“Oh… that James Shaw, the same one you were almost sold to. You know Ares has been looking for him, right, and…”
“Athena?” I murmured, walking to a more isolated space.
“He’s not alone.”
I looked and found Constance with him.
“What’s she doing? I thought James and Ares were like oil and water. She would know that, right?”
“Yes, they are… I’m just as shocked as you are. What’s that old hag doing?”
“If she’s making relations with him, then it can’t be good. We have to find out what.”
“Leave it.”
“I can’t.”
“I said leave it!”
“I need to know what she plans to do this time. James is not someone to make deals with.”
“Cat—”
I tapped on the earpiece, already moving close, but I didn’t just walk up straight to them because there were bodyguards.
I watched discreetly as they sat down, getting ready to play poker. I moved again, this time purposely going to the other end of the table.
I felt their eyes follow me, but I used that opportunity to ask one of the workers for something,
“Excuse me…”
I heard James behind me, followed by his coming footsteps.
“Hello, there…”
I turned to James. He hasn’t changed much over the years; he had the same cold look of a killer, but unlike last time, I’m not afraid of those eyes.
“You look familiar.”
I don’t flinch or panic.
“Do I?” I asked, making my voice sound softer and calmer.
“There are talks that a green-eyed woman has been making quite the bulks, and one thing that interests me is beauties who know how to make money.”
I placed my hand on his chest, and his eyes followed the action. He brought them back to me, far hotter than the last time as if we were on the same frequency or something.
“How about you use a better pick-up line next time?”
He opened his mouth to speak, but I didn’t let him.
“You seem busy… focus on that.” I walked away, but his eyes never left me.
Perfect. Now I had him right where I wanted. If there was one weakness James had, he was a sucker for money and a woman with money? It was a big catch. I bet my cents he’s gonna come right back.
I discreetly tapped the earpiece.
“Cat…” Athena doesn’t sound too happy.
“Trust me.”
I spent the rest of the night playing small games. There were losses, but the wins came too.
I was in the middle of gathering my chips when I spotted James coming towards me alone.
Those bodyguards I saw earlier left with Constance.
“You’re still here…” James said, sitting next to me. “You have made quite a win.”
“And losses.”
“No, no… with this… the losses are all but little.” His hand stroked my thigh, and disgust crawled through me but I didn’t show it.
When I moved my gaze to him, he was grinning like a fool.
“So tell me, Vixen… What’s a woman like you doing here?”
“Your sweet talk approach wasn’t working, so this became a better alternative…?”
He licked his lips as his hand diverged upward, but I moved my thigh up, and his hand connected with the edge of the table.
He grunted, and the sudden noise made numerous eyes fly to us.
“Are you alright?” I asked, feigning concern.
“Yes…” he eyed my legs, which I had crossed.
“You interest me, James Shaw.”
“You know me?”
“Of course, I do. Play a few games there and here, and word flows.” I played with the tip of his tie, wrapping it around my finger. “You’re famous for your casinos. This is not yours, is it? I would very much like to attend yours.”
His smile slowly faded.
“What’s wrong?”
“I guess you weren’t very informative then… I lost everything.”
“That’s too bad.” I released his tie and faced my table.
“But I’m in the middle of working on it.” He sounded desperate.
“Really?”
“Yes! Soon you can spend your money at my casino, and then we can get to know each other. What do you say?”
“Then I guess we should get started.” I uncrossed my legs and rose to my feet. His eyes pinned on me as if he couldn’t get enough.
I placed a finger beneath his chin. “Follow me.”
He did, like a lost puppy. I led him a bit further from the main hall to an unused office, just at the back.
“What are we doing here, baby?”
“Only one man gets to call me baby.”
My leg snapped forward, aimed straight for his groin.
