The Devil CEO's Contract Wife - Chapter 276: Gone Rogue

Chapter 276: Gone Rogue
James clutched his precious balls, eyes wide in shock. With a slight push on his shoulder, he collapsed to the ground, into a fatal position.
I had put my energy into that kick. It must hurt like hell. His face was all red, and he couldn’t decide if he wanted to scream or not; he kept puffing his mouth as sweat beaded his face.
It was a solid one minute before he veered his bloodshot eyes to me, lips parting as he strained through the words. “F-F-Fucking bitch!”
“Bitch?” I clicked my tongue. “That’s no way to talk to a lady.”
He pointed at me, teeth clenching, but he growled, taking his hand back to grip his balls as if to soothe the pain.
I came closer, the tip of my heels clicking sharply against the polished floor. Looking down on him, he didn’t look like the Shaw I knew years ago.
The door suddenly opened, and I moved my head quickly, relieved when it was Athena.
“Would you look at that, and here I thought you needed saving.”
A sharp click filled the air when she locked the door.
“Don’t cut me out again. You should have just told me your plan before going full on Nikita. Without me.”
She sounded angrier because I didn’t let her play along, but I knew what I needed to do to draw James out.
“There wasn’t any plan at first…” I admitted, facing James, still struggling. “But I knew what I had to do. He’s like a dog after a bone. So I gave him what he wanted, and he didn’t disappoint.”
“Aren’t all men, though?”
“W-What’s t-this?” James forced out, face contorted in pain, but there was a mix of confusion.
Athena tilted her head, mostly eyeing where he had his hands clenched. “That was a good shot, but I could have done better.”
I grimaced. “Like, crush his balls or something?”
“Exactly! Using the tip of the heel would have done the trick. It’s always best when you draw blood.”
“Y-You two are crazy!”
“Oh, hush now!” Athena kicked him right in the face.
He began screaming like a girl when he saw his own blood.
“Quiet!” I snapped, but he just kept wailing.
What the heck?
“Maybe we shouldn’t have done this here. Who knew he’s scared of his own blood…” Athena said with disgust painted on her face. “He’s like a little girl.”
“Now you say that?”
“Well, you’re the one who decided to go rogue.”
“I didn’t go rogue!”
“Then how do you explain this?”
“I just wanna find out what his business is with Constance. That is important.”
“Then you should have just said so!”
“Wasn’t I being transparent when I said trust me?”
“Y-You’re gonna regret—”
“SHUT UP!” Athena and I yelled in unison.
I sighed. “Look… let’s just discuss this later.”
Athena crossed her arms. “Fine.”
“James…” I began sweetly.
In fright, he crawled to the wall.
“He wasn’t this pathetic,” I remarked.
“Well, the once great James Shaw lost everything after the attack on his casino by an unknown assailant.”
Athena and I shared a look before we giggled.
“James… James…” I drawled as I moved closer, and he just pressed his back into the wall like he wanted to merge with it. “Don’t be frightened, sweetheart, we won’t hurt you.”
“T-Tell that to my broken nose!”
“I meant I won’t hurt you, but her…” I nudged my head. “She has an appetite, and I can’t control it.”
“A-Appetite?”
“She’s eager for a good night, and that means drawing blood. More blood.”
He flashed his eyes at Athena, waving at him before holding up a switchblade.
“But that won’t happen, only if you tell us who you were speaking with and why…”
“W-What does that matter to you…?”
“That’s it, let’s take his tongue, I’m tired of hearing him speak,” Athena hissed.
“It was Constance King!” He blurted, hands stretched out. “Constance King.”
“King…” I acted like I was unfamiliar. “I think I have heard that name before, but I don’t remember.”
James gulped. “Only a few speak that name… Ares King, to be exact, is the Devil, the one who runs things around here. Also known as Don King, my nemesis.”
“Nemesis? Maybe you should pick on someone your own size.”
“I’ll get back everything I lost!”
“And how are you gonna do that?” I asked. “Was Constance King the key?”
James swallowed thickly.
“You said the Kings were your nemesis, yet you speak with Constance about deals?”
“She was the one who came to me!”
“And you accepted it. So much for keeping to your word. You just want the quickest way to get back on your feet. Luckily, Constance was in the mood for entertaining that purpose. She came to you when you were desperate, and like a little bird, you flew right into her hands.”
“You don’t know a thing!”
“I know enough.”
Athen stepped forward. “I know such deals come with a price. This is the underworld, you get nothing for free.”
James went silent. Athena and I shared a look.
“Look away, Vixen…” She raised her switchblade. “This part might get too bloody. But I’ll try to keep it down a notch.”
“She said she would fund my business if I took her side,” James confessed before Athena got her chance to torture him.
He lifted his eyes. “That I’d make enough money to last a lifetime.”
I frowned. “Why would she want support from you?”
“I’m gonna die anyway, so I might as well say it. There is a rift in the King’s family….” He chuckled, suddenly drowning in amusement. “There are two heirs, and Don, who is yet to take charge of his power, has been busy chasing after a woman for five years.”
“T-Two heirs?” I asked in a murmur.
“He has a son, his firstborn child, though the circumstances of his birth are a bit questionable. Ares King, that son of a bitch fucked his own stepmother.”
I saw red and grabbed the nearby bottle of champagne, smashing it against his head.
