The dragon's harem - Chapter 1707: He Is Back

Chapter 1707: He Is Back
Mira froze in place and stared at Amaterasu. Her face twisted into a frown, and she took a deep, hoarse breath. She had to keep her mouth shut, unless she wanted a disaster to happen.
Amaterasu could grant anything, and to a near-unlimited amount. Mira knew that, and so her Greed Portfolio started itching and pulsing, trying to compel her to ask for something outrageous.
Her hands felt cold, her back itched, and her eyes burned. She could feel a steel lump lodged in her throat, and her lower back felt light and empty, almost causing her to drop down.
But as painful as it was to resist the distant whispers of the portfolio, Mira knew this was the best chance to give the Portfolio a good whipping. She closed her eyes, looking deep within her own soul. Now, she had to face the Portfolio inside her and force it to submit.
“Hehehe…. What a painfully ordinary woman.” A deep voice rang from behind her, and when Mira turned, she could see him. Jordan, the former demigod of greed.
Jordan sat on a large boulder, looking at her with a smile. This place, the dried-up desert, was the same where Jordan died. The exact location where Arad killed and tore him to shreds. “Do you really think the likes of you can subdue a portfolio?”
Jordan’s eyes flashed golden as he chuckled and jumped down, landing on one foot, then his smile turned into a wide, malevolent grin. “You can’t tame me.”
Mira looked at him, and she was worried for a second. Was this demigod alive all this time inside her soul? Was he linked to the portfolio? How?
She was shocked, confused, and scared, but just for a moment, no more than that. It took her a second to get her thoughts straight, but she couldn’t be in the mortal world. This must be all happening inside her head.
The reason was simple: if someone could snatch her away from in front of Amaterasu, the universe might just as well explode and end. Still, she had to figure out what was going on.
But then, she could see it through her divine eyes and smiled. “Ah, I see. You’re not him.” She took a step forward. “You’re the Greed Portfolio taking form, and what form could you take besides the former divine?”
Jordan chuckled. “Hehehehe… I’ll take your body, wealth, life, husband, sisters, and everyone that you love and care about. You’ll die here, and I’ll live ever forward.” He took a step forward, then lifted his hand. “You said I’m the portfolio, not Jordan that your husband killed.”
Covering his face with his palm, he mumbled. “Everything you have will be mine.”
At that moment, he flashed past her in the blink of an eye, and his fist cracked her nose, hammering it back into her skull with a blast, causing her body to fly back, leaving a trail of blood.
“Who said that your husband killed Jordan? He killed me. And I’m here to take my revenge on you.” As Mira landed in the dried sand and twitched, Jordan looked at her from afar with a satisfied smile.
“Do you know how long it took me to kill Jordan and take over him body? To make his entire life and wealth mine?” His face twisted into a frown. “Then, you and your husband had to come and kill me. Then I had to spend months locked inside your mind, getting hit each night by that bull you call a husband.” He flew forward and kicked her in the face, sending her flying once more.
“You… let other women have him, and I had to watch you from the sidelines. He is mine, not yours.” Jordan glared at her with burning golden eyes. “I’ll kill you, and all of the other wives. He’ll be mine, and mine alone. My one and only god and reason for being.”
“I’ve suffered long enough, and your debt can’t be paid with money.” He mumbled once more. Jordan, the Greed Portfolio, knew that Arad was AO and wanted to return to him. But the greedy Portfolio wanted him whole.
Mira hit a massive hill, then rolled down, leaving a path painted red with blood. But then, she moved, slowly standing up with both of her face and neck messed up.
She still couldn’t understand half of what Jordan was mumbling about, but she wasn’t about to listen to the rambles of a fossil.
The torn skin healed, and the broken bones mended with a ghastly scream.
Jordan looked at her with a disgusted face, then smiled. “You’re a bit resilient, aren’t you?”
Mira took a deep breath, then glared back at him. “So… Jordan was always dead, so you’re the same demigod Arad killed.” She lifted her fist, “But, you seem to be forgetting something. I’m a demigoddess now as well.”
With one leap, she flew forward at blinding speed, swinging her fist at his face.
He easily dodged her punch with a bored face, grabbed her by the arm, and threw her to the ground. As she hit the ground, he lifted his foot and stomped down on her chest, pushing as hard as he could to shatter her rib cage and heart.
“A demigoddess with no fighting experience is nothing more than a punching bag. Even if we’re physically equal, you’ll never beat me.” He glared at her with a grin, but then her hands moved, grabbing him by the calves.
“Got you!” Mira smiled and tightened her grip. She had spent years working with wood and had even taken up blacksmithing. If there is one thing she is confident in, it’s her palms, and the harrowing grip strength she could exert.
Jordan winched and pulled his foot, jumping back with a frown. “You damnable, blasted aama!”
Mira stood as her chest healed, grinning. “Huh, I’m not your mother. Even so, that’s not a decent way to speak to her.” She wiped the blood out of her lips and got ready to fight for real.
“No, but you’re a disease, a toxin, a vile existence that I must expel to take over this body.” Jordan straightened his back and looked at her, seeming to calm down.
His foot was almost healed. But Mira’s grip strength was really harrowing. Even if they had the same general physical capabilities, she outclassed him in some parts, while he outclassed her in others.
Physical strength wasn’t the same between two people. If two individuals could lift the same weight, that didn’t mean they could run at the same speed or even hold that weight for the same time. Jordan understood that, and so, he had to be wary of Mary’s hands. If she grabs him, she won’t let go.
The two rushed at each other, and the fight was about to get more violent. Jordan wanted to punch and kick her, but kept a safe distance. At the same time, Mira wanted to grapple him to the ground and tear his throat out with her bare hands.
As the two fought, Amaterasu outside smiled, looking at Mira. The entire fight was happening inside her soul, a war to take control. When this fight ends, only one would emerge in control.
“What is going on?” Lucy asked with a worried face as she saw Mira growing paler and sweating like a hog.
“She is fighting her portfolio. You see, the Greed Portfolio is greedy; it doesn’t want to be controlled but wants to take control. It is one of the few sentient portfolios out there, and now, Mira has to kill it to survive.” She looked at Lucy with a smile, and the little goddess frowned.
“I never had to do anything like that.”
Lucy was right, neither she nor Eris had to fight someone inside their soul. They did struggle to control the power, but that was more of a will and mental battle, not like what Mira is facing now.
“I said, Greed is one of the few. Your Portfolio isn’t one of them.” Amaterasu sat back on her golden throne. “I helped Eris, now it’s Mira’s turn. Let’s see how far she can go.”
Eris approached and looked at Mira’s shaking body. “What if she loses?”
“Of course, she’ll die. Greed would take over her body, and we’ll have to kill it.” Amaterasu smiled, and Mira suddenly spun around, throwing her fist at Eris’s face and sent her flying back into the forge.
“NO WAY! She lost?!” Eris cried, staring back at Mira’s twisted face.
