THE GOD EATER - Chapter 233: Curse Backlash.

Chapter 233: Curse Backlash.
Everyone’s attention was drawn to the expanding white flame. They had to look at it because it was so eye-catching. But as they looked at the white ghostly flame, they saw something slash at them from within it.
This sight caused Damon to become alarmed. But it was too late to take countermeasures. At this point, he can only rely on the preparations that he had already made.
The white flame didn’t stop expanding after it started to grow bigger. In fact, it expanded even faster after it started.
The speed of its expansion was akin to an explosion. So the white ghostly flame exploded and spread into its surroundings.
The Curse Altar was the first one to face the explosion. It had to be the one because it was too close to the candle and because it was its job to block any backlash.
The Curse Altar created more blood vessels than it wanted to use to regain control of the death flame. Unfortunately for the Curse Altar, the power of the backlash was too much for it to handle.
The Curse Altar could only handle a backlash of 5,000 units. So the power of 7,700 units broke through every binding that it could create and smashed into the Curse Altar.
The first to go were the organs that Damon had arranged on top of the white bone altar. Every organ caught fire and turned to ashes in less than a second. Then the bones that made up the altar crumbled as the wild death flame spread into the surroundings.
The explosion of the white flame covered everything within three meters of the candle. It covered everyone except Damon.
Damon was able to escape the range of the explosion because he had felt the danger early on and had made the right decision to escape as soon as possible.
The others weren’t so lucky because they didn’t know that something was wrong early enough, and because they were sitting on the ground. Because they were sitting on the ground, it became too difficult for them to stand and escape.
Skarg and Sophia fared better because they could fly. They were able to create some distance before they were grazed by the white ghostly flames. But Serge was completely submerged.
Serge was also at rank 3, so he was very weak. All of these reasons were why all that was left of him after the explosion receded was a set of white, pristine bones.
The other nine rank 3 and three rank 4 cultivators that were standing around didn’t fare better either. This was because Skarg was too busy escaping for him to bother with them, so they, too, were covered by the death flame.
The nine rank 3 cultivators died immediately. As for the three rank 4 cultivators, they were injured and being constantly burnt by the white flame. If they are not saved soon, they will surely die.
The same thing was happening to Sophia and Skarg. The explosion grazed them, so it didn’t kill them immediately. But the white flame still attached itself to their bodies and was beginning to spread all over.
Skarg roared at Damon, “Hurry and put out the curse!”
Damon hesitated a little bit. But when he remembered that Skarg owed him a lot of money, which he wouldn’t earn if Skarg were to die, he rushed over to Skarg to remove the white fire burning him.
He had helped Skarg to remove the curse before, and it was easy to do. But this time, the power of the white fire was much more serious.
Not only was the death flame attached to Skarg much stronger than what he used originally, but there was also the fact that Skarg is one of the people that the curse was supposed to kill.
The curse had a legitimate reason to kill Skarg, which Damon hadn’t been able to remove, so the curse took this opportunity to fulfill its duty.
This made the death flame more eager than before to kill anyone. It spread quickly across Skarg’s skin and even began to burrow into his body through his mouth, nose, and ear.
There was no way that Damon could save Skarg. If not for the usage of the Scapegoat Metac in Skarg’s part, the curse would have surely killed him.
Skarg had prepared the Scapegoat Metac for moments like this. He used it to spread the damage of the curse to everyone in the Viking Blade Society who wasn’t around.
Even with the Scapegoat Metac, he still needed the help of Damon to prevent the Curse from killing him faster than he could spread the damage to others.
Unfortunately, Sophia and the rank 4 cultivators were not so lucky. While Skarg and Damon were busy battling the curse, they succumbed to it and turned into sparkling white skeletons.
Skarg didn’t notice this for now, though. He was too busy fighting for his life, so he didn’t bother paying attention to what was going on with the others.
It was after he defeated the curse that he was able to spare some attention to everyone else. When he looked around, what he saw was a scene of death and destruction. It reminded him of what he had seen when he just arrived at the farm and beheld the fire damage.
For a while, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. His eyes were seeing, but his mind refused to accept what it was seeing.
When he finally couldn’t deny the reality of the situation, he turned to Damon and grabbed his clothes as he shouted, saying, “How could you let this happen? This is your fault. You will pay for this. You must bring back my dead children.”
But Damon refused to back down. The death cultivator also grabbed Skarg and shouted at him, saying, “How could you let this happen? I thought you said that the person we were targeting wasn’t a rank 4 person? You lied to me.”
