THE GOD EATER - Chapter 236: Betrayal.

Chapter 236: Betrayal.
Skarg was silent for a while as he considered what Damon had said. Since Damon had already done his best, and he couldn’t force Damon to do better, he had to be content with what he had been given.
So he nodded and said, “Good enough. Let’s go.”
But Damon shook his head and said, “I’m sorry, but I can’t leave with you. I lost a lot of things that need to be rebuilt and replaced. I need to get on with replacing them as soon as possible, and they will take a long time.”
“Let’s do this. You go there and look around. If you don’t find who you’re looking for there, you can send for me. I’ll come and help you make a better marker.”
Skarg didn’t like this, so he stared at Damon with cold, stern eyes. But Damon refused to change his mind. The death cultivator stared back at him with eyes full of determination.
Seeing that Damon couldn’t be convinced, Skarg snorted and said, “Fine. I’ll go alone.”
Then he turned to leave. He left with the new subordinates that he came with, leaving Damon alone at the sight of the previous explosion.
Damon watched him go before muttering to himself, saying, “I wish you would go there and die. That way, I will be finally free from this entanglement.”
After saying this, he began packing his things. But as he did so, he grumbled some more, saying, “I don’t want to keep messing around with a rank 4 being that is giving you so much trouble. Or maybe even a rank 5 being. Can we kill a rank 5 being?”
“So what if we kill them? They will just reincarnate and become another person. So we won’t know them, but they will know us, and they will hold a terrible grudge.”
He shook his head and said, “I don’t want that. I don’t want it at all.”
He muttered while his hands worked, but the muttering didn’t delay him. His hands were quick to grab everything that he needed into his pouch. Then he shrank the Curse Altar down into a small pebble, which he placed into his energy well.
He looked around one last time to make sure that he didn’t miss anything. Then he took to the air to leave.
However, he had only gone a short distance before something struck him from behind.
Damon immediately shouted, “Traitorous Skarg. I knew not to trust you. You’re a bastard.”
He urged his internal energy to create more distance between himself and the attack while he was shouting. But the attack caught up to him and penetrated deeply into his back.
The attack was so strong that the object that attacked him continued its journey through his body unimpeded. The object broke his ribs and came through his chest in a shower of blood.
Blood quickly filled up Damon’s throat, and he struggled to breathe or speak. But he could still look around, so he looked down at the wound in his chest.
He saw a small, fair hand protruding from his chest. This sight confused him because he couldn’t understand how the arm had impaled him, and he couldn’t figure out who owned the hand.
He was still confused when he heard his attacker say, “No more curses. It is cheating. Let them fight with their hands. That’s more manly.”
Damon didn’t know this person was, but that didn’t stop him from saying, “Fuck you.”
It was all he could say before he lost consciousness and died.
Slav threw his body down to the ground. Then he turned to look in the direction that Skarg had gone. The mark on his forehead glowed brightly as his eyes focused in that direction.
His eyes shifted around, and he saw the five rank 5 beings hiding around Skarg. So it is clear to him that Skarg is bait for him. They are waiting for him to step into the trap before they take action against him.
This made him click his tongue in annoyance and say, “At most, I will employ my own rank 5 cultivators to do my job for me. Since you want to play dirty, then we can all play dirty.”
He doesn’t want to be stalking Skarg around like this while not being able to get rid of Skarg. What he wants to do is to become a divine being.
He has the materials he needed to advance to rank 6 and also has the experience of advancing to rank 6, so advancing to rank 6 will be very easy for him. Unfortunately, he can’t advance to rank 6 yet because of the people looking for him.
Those powerful people are using Skarg’s blood to track him. This is a troublesome thing to deal with.
He can avoid their tracking for now, but he won’t be able to do so when he begins the process of ascension. Besides, even if they can’t find him when he is ascending, they can use Skarg to curse him, which will make him fail his ascension.
All of these make it imperative to get rid of Skarg. Unfortunately, they also make Skarg a good bait for him. So he can’t make a move against Skarg himself. He needs someone else to do the dirty job for him.
Right now, he has decided to employ people to kill Skarg for him. But he doesn’t mind giving Loki a hand so that Loki will have a better chance of killing Skarg for him.
He could have killed Damon earlier when the death cultivator went to the market. But he waited for Damon to create the tracker and give it to Skarg. That way, he ensured that Skarg would meet Loki before he killed Damon.
Now that he has done what he can do for Loki, his figure starts to become faint. It was as if he were a mirage that was fading away.
As he faded into nothing, he said to himself, “At least I have recovered my life-bound Divine Metacs and a rank 5 cultivation.”
