The Innkeeper - Chapter 2052 The legendary ex-husband

Chapter 2052 The legendary ex-husband
The Innkeeper studied the new guest with curiosity, though Lex was actually quite stunned. Never in his life did he think that he would look at a bear and think that it was handsome, and yet that is what was happening.
In front of Lex, out of Ventura’s portal, walked out a bear upright on his two feet. Though his hair, made out of some black, rock like material, was wild, it also looked incredibly well groomed. Its claws looked sharp and deadly, and yet also looked oddly presentable. There was a fierce, savage aura around his body that made him both incredibly intimidating and oddly appealing.
Oh, there was also the halo of red, endless bloodlust over his head, and wings made out of some celestial material that Lex did not recognize. More importantly, no matter how he looked at him, Lex could feel that this particular bear had an unbearably powerful, charismatic air about him.
Looking at him, it was impossible to not appreciate his rugged and untamed character, while acknowledging that there was a hint of sophistication hidden within that overwhelming persona.
“Oh dear lord,” the Primal uttered, looking at this new guest with a troubled expression. “It’s the Voidmaw Grizzly King.”
The Innkeeper immediately noticed that many of the female guests were looking at the bear with… odd expressions. In comparison, Eclipse was looking at him with a mix of anger and embarrassment.
“This, Ventura, is why you remain firmly on my list of enemies,” Eclipse said in an odd display of retreat that Lex had never seen before. What kind of entity could cause the universe’s most powerful Dao Lord to retreat? Only one kind came to Lex’s mind.
The legendary… ex-husband!
“My, my, my… I never thought I’d smell that sweet, Primordial honey ever again,” the Voidmaw Grizzly said in a deep, rumbling voice. Lex had to admit, it wasn’t just his appearance, but even his voice that was impressive.
Bridget did not ask any question, but she shot Ballom a questioning look. When the devil sighed and shook his head, she then turned to the Primordial.
“The Voidmaw Grizzly King,” the Primal spoke in a low, awkward voice, “is most famously known as the Primordial Queen’s fifth husband. More specifically, he is not known for being her husband as much as he is known for honey trapping her with his overpowering charisma and charm. Their marriage was the shortest, and most filled with drama of all of the Queens marriages. It is said that even his Dao has something to do with attraction.”
The Grizzly clearly heard the Primal, but instead of being offended, he nodded towards the Primal, as if accepting a compliment.
“Oh dear Eclipse, how good it is to see you again,” he said, walking up to her. “Now if only you would feed me honey like you-“
Before the Grizzly could complete his words, the upper portion of his body disappeared, as if it ceased to exist. Lex did not even see what happened, nor did he detect anything.
Just to be sure, he looked towards Eclipse to make sure she wasn’t on the verge of losing it, but surprisingly, she looked quite embarrassed, and helpless.
“I was also young once,” she said defensively when she saw the Innkeeper looking at her. “It is totally understandable for a lady to make some… mistakes in the heat of passion.”
The Grizzly, meanwhile, regrew the upper portion of his body and only chuckled instead of feeling offended by her reaction.
“You always did pack quite the punch,” Voidmaw said in a reminiscing tone. “It was almost as sweet as your-“
This time, the Grizzly’s entire body disappeared, leaving only his feet on the ground.
“Ventura, I will have my revenge for this,” Eclipse glared at him, but that only caused Nulli to laugh out loud. She leaned over and whispered something in Eclipse’s ear which seemed to both horrify and somewhat tempt her.
“Why, I have no idea what you mean,” said Ventura with a laugh, enjoying watching the legendary Primordial Queen get flustered. “I merely invited a guest over, just like everyone else.”
Voidmaw was slowly regrowing his body, but even so he did not stop walking. This time, however, he was smart enough to not continue teasing Eclipse. Instead, he looked at the Innkeeper challengingly.
“So you’re the bloke hosting this party? Do you really think something weak like that will impress a lady? If you want some tips, though, you can always reach out to me.”
A sudden hush fell across the tavern as all the Dao Lords froze. Was Voidmaw acknowledging that the Innkeeper was pursuing someone? Was that the Primordial Queen, or Nulli? Compared to the Queen, his flirting with Nulli seemed a lot more provocative and blatant.
Or could it be… he was pursuing both?
The Innkeeper laughed, as if he had heard an amusing joke. Internally, though, Lex quickly analysed the situation. He could not allow the Innkeepers reputation to fall, but also had no way of directly retaliating.
In that case, there was nothing to do except diverting attention and making someone else the scapegoat.
“I much appreciate the offer, thank you,” the Innkeeper said warmly, as if he wasn’t bothered by the Grizzly’s words at all. “While I do not currently need any advice on pursuing women, if you ever happen to need some advice on how to avoid getting robbed blind by Wu Kong without realizing it, you can reach out to me.”
The Innkeeper’s words caused an even deeper silence to fall upon the tavern as everyone looked from the Innkeeper towards Voidmaw. Voidmaw, in turn, realizing that something might be amiss, suddenly blared his aura.
The sudden eruption of his aura seemed to have undone some kind of concealment, revealing Wu Kong, standing right behind him, with his hands inside Voidmaw’s body.
Wu Kong looked incredibly awkward, and then looked reluctantly towards the
Innkeeper. He wasn’t the one challenging the Innkeeper, so why was the Innkeeper throwing him under the bus? Just because he was robbing the
Innkeepers guests?
Well, okay, that was an acceptable reason, but still. The timing could have been
less provocative!
