Chapter 2095 I don’t see a reason to be bothered
Some secrets are extremely valuable, providing whoever had knowledge of them the possibility to use it for their own gain. Similarly, some secrets were extremely dangerous, and merely being aware of them put one at risk.
The secret that the group had just witnessed was far beyond even the latter category, as knowing it did not put them at risk – it practically guaranteed their deaths! Not only was it a secret concerning two current, and one former Sage race, but it directly involved two extremely prominent members of those Sage races, and an unbelievable dark history!
If any of them claimed that the Karmari race was actually enslaved to the Penance race, no one would believe it. It would not even be categorised as a joke. Instead, it would be sacrilege, and get not only them, but anyone associated with them in trouble.
That was only if they claimed it casually. This, however, was far beyond that. Having express knowledge of the details, revealing a hidden aspect of their reality, might just get their entire race targeted!
If Hidemar could target a Sage race while they were at their prime, then any random race could not hold up against him at all!
Thus, those in attendance did not just seal their memories, they were directly purging them! They were inflicting very serious self harm, the kind that they may have never suffered since becoming Dao Lords, yet they showed not a hint of hesitation.
All of them had been super excited at the possibility of learning one of the Primordial Queens secrets, assuming that they could benefit from it. They forgot who they were dealing with. What kind of knowledge could be considered secret, even by the Queen? Certainly the kind that could threaten the literal eradication of even an Elder race if it was ever revealed to them!
Among them all, poor Bridget had it the worst. She had only barely stabilised herself after successfully passing her tribulation, and now she would be wounded. While healing from a wound for any cultivation below Dao Lord should be easy, that was not true for Dao Lords!
The very fact that it was nearly impossible to damage them to begin with compensated for the difficulty in healing faced by Dao Lords. Even something as simple as purging their memory counted as an injury, even if only a minor one. Now, unless they used special means, they would have to wait millions of years for this minor injury to heal.
If it were a serious injury, then the Dao Lord might never be able to heal at all for the remainder of their existence!
Even so, not a single one of them showed any dissatisfaction towards the Primordial Queen. After all, they took the risk. Besides, the secret was revealed at random. Who could say whether there weren’t even more dangerous secrets in there?
Among the entire group, only Ventura, the Innkeeper, Nulli, Little Crusty and the Primal avoided purging their memory, though none of them were casual about what they had witnessed either. Eclipse did not count – she had already removed the memory and sealed it in her pillar to begin with, and now that it had been revealed, that is where it would go back.
Lex, naturally, would not purge his memory. He would seal it in the Chamber of Secrets, though he would retain information about the Penance race. Since they were experts in curses, maybe they were responsible for the curse on the fairies, and behind the invasion of humanity’s destiny on the obelisk!
“How did you even learn that?” Ventura asked Eclipse in a low voice.
Eclipse looked at Ventura with an amused expression, clearly enjoying his shock and surprise.
“Do you really want to know? Can you afford it?” she asked, teasingly. Ventura hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. He would pay her whatever she asked.
Eclipse chuckled, and whispered the answer to Ventura. Though she erected no barrier around them, Lex sealed his own hearing and restricted his senses. This was not something he wanted to get involved in, though he could not help but chuckle.
“Are you really in the mood to chuckle right now?” Nulli asked, amused and intrigued at the same time.
“I was just thinking back to the first time I met a Kirmari,” the Innkeeper said, not bothering to lower his voice. “He had been so full of himself – so pride filled over his status as a Sage. Who could have guessed that he was actually a slave?”
Ballom gave the Innkeeper a wry smile, before he began to purge his own memories as well. Leave it to the Innkeeper to laugh while they were all going through an existential crisis.
“Damn!” Ventura suddenly exclaimed once Eclipse was done speaking, his expression worsening. It was hard to read his emotions – considering his true appearance was hidden, and all – but his tone of voice at least revealed that he was both shocked and furious.
“Damn it! How can this be?”
Lex looked at Ventura, and did not believe for a moment the show he was putting on. Even he, an immortal, could control himself perfectly so how could he lose composure.
And yet… Ventura began pacing, paying no mind to anyone who was there.
“You don’t seem too bothered by this,” Eclipse said, looking at the Innkeeper.
The Innkeeper did something that was, quite frankly, unbelievable considering his usual, formal self. He shrugged.
“Yes, although I frown upon slavery, we allow slave owners into the Inn as long as they don’t break Inn rules, or enslave anyone inside the Inn. Therefore, I don’t see a reason to be too bothered.”
Eclipse just looked away. Like father, like son. The only thing they both cared about was that damn Inn!
Eclipse couldn’t believe she had been fooled by such a thickheaded man into paying so much for a useless secret. One way or another, she would get even
for this.
Nulli laughed as she saw Eclipse pouting. That was not a sight she got to see too often.
