The Innkeeper - Chapter 2097 The best theif in the universe

Chapter 2097 The best theif in the universe
Wu Kong was an enigma that even Dao Lords could not understand. His means and methods were one thing – even his motives were beyond all of reality. The concept of a main body and a fake body did not exist between him and his clones, as far as anyone could tell, and he completely lacked the pride and demeanor of a Dao Lord.
He was shameless, yet he liked to make friends. Unfortunately, sometimes being his friend was worse than being his enemy, for it was harder to slap a smiling face – especially when most of the time they didn’t even know what the issue was.
A chance to observe him in action without being detected was too valuable, for the screen conjured by Harriot showed not just Wu Kong, but all his antics that they otherwise would have missed. Unfortunately, the screen could not show them his Dao, or how it worked, which meant that even if they knew what he was likely to do, they could not stop him, or even detect him!
Wu Kong was walking through a marsh, the deep red water coming up to his knees, and the grass rising from within rising up high enough to tickle his nosehairs. The sight would have been funny if he didn’t leave behind a tiny clone on every single blade of grass that touched him.
The clones were all tiny enough to latch onto the grass without causing it to bend over. All those observing felt like if they were there in person, they would not have been able to detect those clones, giving them chills.
If that was the case, who was to say that he hadn’t left clones behind everywhere?
The group suddenly started to look around, searching for him. Lex would have liked to let them know that he wasn’t there, but there was no way he could guarantee that. As far as he knew, Wu Kong could be watching the screens light with them.
Just as everyone was dealing with the horrific knowledge that there might be a hundred Wu Kong clones all around them, he suddenly reached into the water and pulled out a smooth, red stone.
While Wu Kong was observing the stone, trying to determine its worth, the image on the screen started to show the specs of the stone. It was a Primordial Footscrub, and its effects were to remove all traces of anyone’s presence in any specific location.
Beneath the Dao Lord level, it achieved that by eliminating anyone who
searched for any traces in the areas where the Footscrub was used with a 100% effectiveness, while for those at the Dao Lord it would attempt to fool them with an illusion, and the success rate was variable.
While no one else seemed too surprised by the features of the red rock, Lex was dumbfounded. That was a random rock picked up from within the march – how could it have a 100% kill rate beneath the Dao Lord realm?
He had been roaming the Primordial Garden randomly, without worry about getting killed by random rocks on the ground. As it turned out, that might have been a serious mistake!
But such a thing did not interest Wu Kong whatsoever, so he tossed it back in the water, and continued to search.
The screen showed that the borders of the marsh were clearly nearby, yet Wu Kong did not approach them. Instead, he stayed well within the middle, as if he was searching for something specific!
As the hours passed, Wu Kong grabbed many items, such as the Grass Blade of Annihilation – a yellowed blade of grass, on the verge of death. Another example was the Bubble of Eternal Solitude, which was just a bubble formed atop the waters of the march.
The effects of both items, though, were tremendous, with the bubble even being able to act as a defense against the full might attack of a Dao Lord!
Damn, even Lex wanted that bubble, yet he could not leave the territory of the Inn, so he could only hope that whatever souvenir Eclipse gave him, it would be worth it.
Meanwhile, they noticed that a majority of Dao Lords were not as picky as Wu Kong. In fact, many of them went to get the healing item Harriot had told them about, treating the hope of getting a reward as nothing. They had already benefited enough – they did not need to be greedy.
Thus, after getting their items, they returned to the tavern and also began watching Wu Kong act. They had seen him find many incredible things, and one that even had the potential of enhancing his Dao, yet Wu Kong decisively gave it up. It seemed that he was looking for something specific.
Eventually, it was about fifteen hours after the event began that Wu Kong managed to find a tadpole at the Heaven Immortal realm. Seeing his wide grin confused many, for they were already clear that they weren’t allowed to take anything with sentience, and though that tadpole was weak, it was surely sentient.
Wu Kong did not keep them wondering for long. He grabbed the tadpole and… pulled some kind of rainbow colored orb from within its body, before letting the small tadpole return to the waters.
Wu Kong grinned at the orb for a good second before swallowing it, and turning to return to the Inn. What Wu Kong did not know, at least yet, was that everyone saw his actions. More importantly, the screen even revealed what that orb was, causing everyone to stare at the monkey on screen solemnly. Sometimes they treated him like a joke, but that was only because Wu Kong encouraged such a perception. In truth, he was some of the most fearsome and devious thieves in the universe, and no one should ever forget it.
What he had stolen from the tadpole… was nothing except its recognition as an innate Primordial being. While the tadpole still remained a Primordial, the universe no longer technically recognized it as one. Instead, Wu Kong was the one who had that recognition now.
