The Innkeeper - Chapter 2098 Insightful Innkeeper

Chapter 2098 Insightful Innkeeper
While everyone else was marveling at Wu Kong’s actions, and wondering what his intentions were, and marvelling at his genius, the Innkeeper stared at the screen with a little more understanding about the situation – for once actually living up to the reputation he had.
He knew for a fact that Wu Kong had long wanted to enter the Primordial Garden. While it was true that a lot of people wanted the same thing, it was obvious to him that Wu Kong had a specific purpose in mind.
While he did not know that specific purpose, nor did he intend on prying into his personal matters, it was obvious to him that this very small orb that he had obtained might have been one of his primary purposes within the garden, if not the primary purpose. Of course, all this could just be a ruse to hide his actual intentions, but since Lex could not think things with the same depth as Dao Lords, he would not bother with it.
Even so, he could not help but wonder what exactly the monkey had planned. For him to go through such lengths, only to acquire such recognition had to be in preparation for something. While others treated him as nothing more than a miscreant, Lex knew that he hid his true motives underneath the facade of mischief.
Or… well… this could just be in preparation for another prank on that emperor Wu Kong had issues with. Poor fella.
With the favourite of the audience finally getting what he wanted, the big screen started to show scenes of many other Dao Lords – the few who were left. All of the ones who still had not come out were big names who probably had other means to heal themselves.
Lex could not help but notice that Eclipse did not show up on the screens. It seems that whatever souvenir she was getting for the Innkeeper was something secret that she did not want others seeing.
A few more hours later, while everyone was watching the Primal carefully and meticulously dig out a rose bush without damaging any of its roots, Eclipse returned and called the Innkeeper to the side.
“If your demands had not been so… unusual, it would have been much easier to find you something useful. You’re quite lucky that I like you, or else I wouldn’t have bothered to put so much thought into this. Open it only when you return to your Inn, and make sure you’re ready to help with the integration.”
After saying that, Eclipse handed the Innkeeper what looked like a small jewellery box just big enough to hold a bangle or something of the sort. Lex naturally would not open it without scanning it and making sure it was safe, so he merely put it away.
The box naturally would not enter his spatial equipment – the space within was not nearly strong enough to hold it. Instead, he directly sent it to the Inn. He could check on what it was mentally if he wished, but he felt like it would not be good to be distracted right now.
“I sincerely appreciate the gesture,” said the Innkeeper. “Your consideration is much more valuable than any gift.”
Eclipse nodded, as if agreeing with him. At this point, it wasn’t even arrogance. It was a fact that, as the strongest Dao Lord in the universe, her consideration was not something that could be attained easily.
“Innkeeper, while I have you here, allow me to ask you a question,” Eclipse said, looking towards the crowd of Dao Lords watching the screen. “What are your intentions once the Tea Party is concluded?”
Lex had not been expecting such a question, and could not help but think that she might have something she wanted to request from him.
“As usual, I will tend to my Inn,” he responded, giving a predictable answer. “Do you, perhaps, have need of me?”
Eclipse shook her head. Her question had been slightly bold, but it was for a reason. Even with her abilities sealed, she would be able to tell if the Innkeeper had lied to her since she was focusing on him, but he had not. He really only intended to tend to his Inn. In that case, some of her suspicions dissipated.
“It’s nothing. If more people were as single minded as you, this universe would be a far less troublesome place,” she said, sounding slightly annoyed.
Lex had a feeling that something must have happened while she was getting his souvenir, or else there would not have been such a sudden shift in her mood. He did not pry, and merely nodded, as if taking her words as a compliment. The two of them returned to the crowd and, while largely ignoring the dubious and suspicious looks Nulli was giving them, began to watch the screen.
A few hours later, everyone returned with their souvenirs. For whatever reason, Ventura came back empty handed, for in those thirty hours no matter what he picked up, the item would vanish. It was abundantly clear that he was being targeted by Eclipse, but instead of feeling annoyed at being targeted, his casual smile returned.
It was as if whatever was bothering him was not as important as teasing, and being teased by Eclipse. Of course, that was only an observer’s opinion. How could they know what was really happening?
In the end, the greatest winner of the third activity became the Innkeeper. Though no one knew what he got, everyone agreed that it was probably the best item. Right behind him was Wu Kong, for he pulled off something that should have been impossible, and even got the Primordial Queen’s praise for
his ingenuity.
Right behind him was the Primal, who had dragged out an entire rose bush. Finally, the three events were at an end.
To celebrate, the Innkeeper announced that lunch was served as a number of staff started to bring out lunch plates covered in simple, metal domes. After all the over excitement given to them in the previous three activities, they all could not help but appreciate the Innkeepers choice of using only mortal level ingredients.
The mundaneness of the food somehow took away from the terrifying excitement brought by the Queen’s activities. Truly, his insight went far beyond what they originally expected.
