The Innkeeper - Chapter 2110 Heart breaker

Chapter 2110 Heart breaker
After a few hours of hustle and bustle, all the Dao Lords once again returned to their meetings. In fact, this time they felt even more at case owing to the fact that the tavern was no longer a mortal one, but instead a tavern befitting their actual status. They felt more at case.
Beyond that, they now felt even more secure knowing that should anyone do anything untoward, they would face the wrath of both the Innkeeper and Eclipse. No one would mess around – at least not unless they had a death wish. Lex, too, this time opted to stay by Eclipse. Regardless of whether her conversations were dangerous or not, Lex was missing a Butter Knife so he had absolutely no defenses to speak of. If, in the end, the danger came from Eclipse herself then there was nothing Lex could have done about that regardless. Thus, just as the past couple of days the tavern was mostly deserted, the next few days were the same. Since Nulli had not recovered yet, Eclipse had no on one for company save Harriot and the Innkeeper. Even Mary chose to keep her distance for she was not as familiar with the Primordial Queen as the Innkeeper.
Moreover, even without her powers, Eclipse’s instincts were incredibly sharp, so it was best not to test her. Thus, while the Innkeeper and Eclipse sat together, the Innkeeper did not initiate much conversation. Eclipse, on the other hand, simply took that as the behavior of a troubled father.
It was the Innkeepers own fault for having a human for a son. If Lex had been born a Celestial, he would have much fewer problems. As for how the Innkeeper could achieve such a thing – that was not Eclipse’s concern.
The fifth and sixth day passed without anything of note, and only on the seventh day did some of the Dao Lords emerge. They remembered that there was supposed to be a meal, and although they did not covet the mortal food offered by the Inn, they took it as an opportunity to befriend the Innkeeper, and get closer to Mary.
This time, the menu was not fried chicken. Instead, it was a very standard Fettuccine Alfredo, with a number of appetisers and desserts before and after.
But the meal was merely a small interlude. The Dao Lords quickly returned to their meetings, though this time Lex noted that they changed up who they were meeting. It seemed that the first round of agreements had been concluded, and now subsequent rounds were beginning.
Thus, the rest of the seventh day went by peacefully. Lex was grateful for the relative peace, and hopeful that things would stay that way until the end, but that was too much to hope for.
On the morning of the eighth day, many Dao Lords concluded their meetings, and emerged into the tavern once more. As the Innkeeper, he naturally needed to see to his guests, but this time he took a different approach. This time, instead of checking in on his guests and making sure that they were fine, he merely kept his distance and kept an eye on the workers.
The Dao Lords all mingled on their own. Whether it was going to the Gamers Den, or the Hot tub room, or having drinks in the garden, he did not try to interfere. Many of the guests noticed the change in behavior, but did not comment on it. But seeing as how their treatment itself had not changed at all, they allowed themselves to relax.
Then… then the attention shifted from the Innkeeper to Mary. Compared to the Innkeeper, she was a whole lot less intimidating, not to mention many of them still had hopes of establishing a deeper relationship with her – regardless of what form it took.
Thus, while Lex sat alongside Eclipse, Mary ended up taking most of the pressure for Lex. He had told her to come to him if she felt like she could no longer handle things, or if things started to get troublesome. But that was far from the case.
In fact, since many of them were trying to court Mary, not only did she feel no pressure at all, she was incredibly relaxed. Instead, it was the Dao Lords who were stressed and tense as they sensed all the competition.
While it was pretty standard for Dao Lords to have many partners, they were mostly those below the Dao realm. Most of the time, as long as any of them got a partner who was also a Dao Lord, they would only have that one partner. Thus if Mary were to choose any of them, then the rest would lose out.
So while Lex was sitting besides Eclipse, hoping nothing would go wrong, and Mary was being enchanted with the most interesting and genuinely stimulating conversations, there were a dozen Dao Lords competing with each other while bearing the stress of keeping all their powers locked in lest they accidentally clash and get blacklisted.
“You look worried for your assistant. Do you dislike the fact that she is being courted like this?” Eclipse suddenly asked the Innkeeper.
The Innkeeper looked at her, and then towards Mary before shaking his head.
“You’re slightly mistaken. I am not worried for her. I am worried about everyone else, and for myself in fact. The last thing I want to deal with is a heartbroken ex-boyfriend showing up at my inn everyday. Although everyone is welcome at my Inn, I generally prefer not to have to clean up after my employees.”
Eclipse raised an eyebrow, and looked towards Mary.
“So she’s a heartbreaker, eh? Not bad. Would she have happened to have broken any hearts that I know about?” Eclipse asked very, very casually, as if she wasn’t actually interested at all.
Lex suddenly felt troubled. Now where was he supposed to bring out juicy gossip from? He was 100% sure that if he straight up lied, he would get caught. In that case…
