The Innkeeper - Chapter 2142 Wedding Jitters I

Chapter 2142 Wedding Jitters I
“What do you mean you can’t wait for the red packets?” Pierre whispered to Brenda, warily looking left and right to make sure that no one could overhear them. This was not a conversation he wanted overheard, lest his budding reputation be ruined.
“I heard about it in House Nyxheart,” Brenda said proudly. “When people get married, their guests have to give them red packets which contain money. So, I invited everyone alive inside the whole realm. Can you imagine how much money we’re going to get?”
Pierre started to dab his forehead with his handkerchief to keep the sweat from dripping in his eyes. Was that why she had invited so many guests? Why did he feel like this was a really bad idea? All he did was go to bed one night, and in the morning when he woke up over a hundred billion guest invites had already been sent out.
“Thank you, Innkeeper, for covering the bill of this wedding” Pierre whispered, as if pleading with the Innkeeper not to smite him.
“Oh yeah, I invited some of the Innkeepers friends too. You know, that way he won’t be so bored,” Brenda added, right before getting distracted. Geeves was showing her the final look on her dress, which was in the shape of a traditional, chinese wedding. The bright red was complimented by the design of silver and gold that not only made the dress itself look like a piece of work, but would accentuate her figure once she put it on.
Oh, also, the dress could take one full hit from a Heaven Immortal while not suffering any damage. Since the Innkeeper was footing the bill, there was no need to hold back on the expenses. The only reason this is where Geeves had stopped was because Brenda was still a mortal, and could not wear the dress if it was too constricting or heavy, which is why Geeves had to use light but expensive materials to make the dress – meaning they took Pelvailin’s scales and turned them into thread.
Poor Pelvailin – he was used more like a cow than a dragon inside the Midnight Inn, always milked for his resources. Not that Pelvailin minded, since the soul inside the dragon body was still too weak for the body, weakening the body actually made his life much easier.
Of course, since Brenda was too weak, she did not yet have a proper concept of the kind of dress she was wearing. She was simply satisfied with the color and design – as well as the fact that the dress had been altered so that she could run at a moment’s notice without feeling constricted. A woman needed to protect her red packets!
Meanwhile, Pierre was still trying to understand how he had gone from trying to look after Brenda to having hundreds of billions of guests at his wedding. The Inn simply didn’t have enough lemons to provide that much lemonade! “Feeling nervous?” asked Gerard as he looked at the troubled expression Pierre wore. Since Pierre was a member of his house, Gerard felt like he needed to step up and give Pierre some advice about how to handle the work-life balance inside the Inn after he was married.
While Gerard was not married yet, he was in a relationship, and had been at it for a while.
More importantly, anyone with eyes could see that Pierre was incredibly nervous, and was always looking towards his fiancee.
Everyone mistook his worry that Brenda would cause more problems for lovesickness, which amused them all.
“Yeah, a little. I’m just thinking about all the things that could go wrong,” Pierre admitted, worried about what else Brenda might do. The fact that she was wearing a red dress, and then had seated a herd of high level bulls very near their table worried him.
Or the fact that, apparently, she had been talking to her ‘sisters’ about ‘marital affairs. How was he supposed to explain to her that the marital affairs they were talking about was not the fun fair she was thinking of? He felt too awkward to explain it to her, and so was forced to hear her talk about wanting to go on the rides repeatedly.
The looks he got from the girls at Nyxheart after that made him age a century. If his body didn’t have sturdy foundations, and if he hadn’t embarked on the path of a body cultivator, he may have already started to lose hair.
Gerard chuckled, listening to Pierre’s words, completely misunderstanding him. As an Immortal, it would be easy for Gerard to read Pierre’s thoughts through his body language alone, but that would be rude so they always restrained all their excessive senses, thus causing this situation.
“Don’t worry, everything will be fine. I’ve heard that, as per Brenda’s request, Pontiff Faloofa will be holding the ceremony, which is quite a prestigious honour you know. He is the leader of Bunny nation, and it is not easy to get his time,” Gerard said. He thought that Pierre was worried about things not falling into place for the wedding, and began to reassure him.
Little did he know, it was not the wedding, but Brenda that Pierre was worried about.
“Maybe I should go talk to her one more time,” said Pierre as he saw Brenda wrap her arm around Geeves and take him to the side, whispering something. “Now, now, it’s bad luck to bother the bride too much before the wedding. Why don’t you follow me to the Hot tub and relax a little? It won’t be good if you’re too tense before the big day. Whatever you do, don’t accidentally say the wrong name while you’re jumping from the hot air balloon. That will make things awkward.”
Pierre didn’t register Gerard’s words for a second, too distracted by the thoughtful look on Geeve’s face. What had Brenda said to him? Then, the words
finally clicked.
“Wait, jumping? Hot air balloon? What?” Pierre asked, but to his dismay, no one explained what was happening.
