The Innkeeper - Chapter 2144 Mass Sacrifice

Chapter 2144 Mass Sacrifice
“Do you think that the real reason that the Innkeeper is inviting so many guests to his Inn is to hold a mass sacrifice, killing us and using your deaths to power a super powerful treasure? Then he’ll torture our souls for an eternity, using our pain and suffering to turn us into resentful ghosts which he will use to wage a war against a civilisation that stood up against him? And then when our ghost versions die he would…”
The white horse neighed, cutting off the overly excited foal.
“That’s enough, Junior” said Seleipner in a tone of utter exhaustion, probably for the thousandth time this trip. “No, the Innkeeper is not holding a mass sacrifice, and will not kill us all to power some treasure. You should be mindful of your words once we arrive at the Inn – you’re going to offend somebody.”
Junior, the young foal, looked disappointedly at his father.
“But a mass sacrifice would be so cool,” he complained under his breath, suddenly feeling upset that his soul would not be used in an evil scheme.
“I massively sacrificed my peace of mind by bringing you, and let me tell you, there’s nothing cool about it,” Seleipnir said, rolling his eyes as he continued to trot forward.
Junior snorted.
“You’re no fun. I’m going to go play with Grandpa World Snake,” Junior said before galloping away, leaving Seleipnir alone to wallow in his own misery.
“Shouldn’t have married a unicorn,” he muttered to himself. “They all warned me, but I just wouldn’t listen.”
While Seleipnir, the Horse Deity of the Midnight Realm, and one of the original few Mythical beings of the realm, contemplated his life decisions, Junior ran all the way to the massive World Serpent that lived beneath the continents.
The snake was one of the reasons that the underground world of the Midnight Realm even existed, not that the snake cared much about that. He just spent most of his time sleeping. Also, Seleipnir and the World Serpent didn’t actually get along too well, which is why going to him was an excellent excuse. No one would know whether he actually went or not because no one would check in with the snake.
Instead, Junior galloped all the way to the Midnight Inn ahead of schedule. Everyone wanted to arrive on the day of the wedding, since that was the day where everything would be free, but Junior didn’t want to waste time. Besides, he had enough money to take care of himself for a couple of days if need be. Finally he saw the massive wall of the Midnight Inn which represented the beginning of the territory of the Inn, as well as the large gates through which all the guests were entering. The Inn, apparently, paid a lot of attention to the rules so Junior didn’t skip the line as he usually would have, and instead used that time to take in all the sights.
One of the first things he noticed where the bipedal beasts – or humans, as he’d heard they were called – were mounted atop some really powerful peacocks. Now, Junior, despite his name and age, was a peak Earth Immortal, so the fact that the peacocks were threatening to him was quite fascinating.
“I see, it’s not a mass sacrifice. Instead, we’re going to be enslaved and used as mounts,” Junior said, understanding dawning on him. Unfortunately for him, he did not heed his fathers advice, and had spoken out loud which meant that the peacock nearby heard him.
“You? A mount for the Midnight Inn? Not even if you begged for the role,” the peacock said haughtily. “Be satisfied with the privilege of being a guest, as that is all you will ever achieve.”
Junior was suddenly provoked. As the son of a Deity, Mythical being, and a particularly flamboyant unicorn, when had he ever been talked to in such a way? Actually, pretty much every day, but that didn’t count! When had a stranger ever talked to him like that?
“I’ll have you know, I can join the Inn to become a mount if I really wanted to,” Junior exclaimed angrily, but the peacock only gave him an amused look, not taking him seriously at all.
Junior’s little outburst had attracted a lot of attention, and as it happened, Little Blue was flying by, and paused to take a look. Liz, who was returning to the Inn for the wedding after a long time of exploring the Midnight Realm, looked down from Little Blue’s back curiously.
Comparing the tiny horse to a mount like Little Blue was really too much. Not all mounts could be special – some needed to be normal too.
“Look at that Levi, even small horses have big dreams,” she said, before nudging Little Blue to move on.
Junior heard that too, and the more he heard people dismissing his idea about being taken as a mount, the angrier he got.
“Dammit, I’ll show them all. I’ll be a mount if it’s the last thing I do!” Junior muttered to himself, and then had a brilliant idea. Since everyone was coming here for a wedding, how would they react if they saw him as the groom or bride’s mount? Heh, that would show them!
With a new, secret plan brewing in his mind, Junior ignored the dumb peacock, and quickly followed the line to enter the Midnight Inn.
Once there, he skipped the train that took guests from the gates to one of the cities within the Inn. Instead, he began to gallop towards the wedding venue at full speed. To his mild disappointment, he really couldn’t detect any preparations for any mass sacrifices anywhere. Oh well, he’d just have to make
do.
It was while he was marching towards the venue that he overheard someone talking about a bachelor party that the groom was having, which was open to all the early arrivers at free of cost.
Junior suddenly changed his direction. While on the way, he saw that some of the humans were even using giant bunnies as mounts to patrol the grounds, and that infuriated him even more. Dammit, he would not be outdone by some hopping creatures.
